GUIDE PIN BACK's (Dont lose your Lanyard Pins Ever Again)

Hey guys and girls.
I just thought I would share this with you because someone had just told me about losing a really valuable pin from their lanyard. While It may sound like I am endorsing a particular pin back (well I am) I dont even know the person I buy them from other than their screen name on EBay.

Anyways, here we go.

The rubber Mickey Backs work ok but if you ever snag a pin or you are on a ride and getting shook around, or even in normal walking, they can come loose. I am sure you haveall had ones that go on really tight and other times really loose and look for a tighter one.

Didneyland sells a binding post system to keep pins on. BAD IDEA. The small allen scres that tightens to the post puts a small dent in the post. The post is actually pretty soft and once it get this dent, it is not as strong and can bend and break. It creats a weak point.

Most of you may be familiar with the everyday tie tack bak with the little ears on both sides that you squeez to get off. These work really well and the more you pull on the pin, the tighter it gets.

Someone has taken tie tacks to the next level and made a really nice Chrome one that has a spring mechanism and it totally awesome. I also like it because it does not snag on anything like the conventional tie back's (even though they do work well)

I have a pic below of all 3 styles but I highly recomend NOT using the Binding post system. Whenever I trade with people who have them (and I always carry the wrench) I look at the pin back because most people WAY overtighten them so they wont loose their pin and you can se the big dent in the post. Pushing that into your book one time may work but when you try to remove it, the post will break.

Anyways, A picture tells a thousand words so here it is. Dont be afraid to wear your nice pins anymore. There is a solution but also dont damage your pin back.
(AS MENTIONED, THE CHROME ONES IN THE MIDDLE ARE THE BEST)

I use those same chrome back and also purchase mine from someone on eBay. I agree that these are the better backs. Haven't lost a pin using these!

Can you message me with this ebayer's name perty please? I am very interested in these backs as I am NOT willing to loose more pins from the lanyard lol. I wan't fond of the idea of the wrench version backs. They don't make much sense to me ~ needing an extra "tool" to get them off lol.
Thanks much!!!

I use rubber backs all the way! Totally agree about traders over-tightening the locking backs - a few pins I've seen have actually had the pin broken off!. The butterfly clasps backs are okay but my wife has found them hard to grip at times as she has (being kind!) undelicate (?) fingers!! I would say that over the course of the 5/6 years trading are so I have only lost the odd pin which has fallen from my lanyard etc - usually this is as mentioned the back gets snagged on a tee, luckily we've heard the chink of the pin as it hits the floor! One thing I have noticed is that some rubber backs do not fit the pin - the hole is too big - so always carry a spare stock of backs with me!!
Wifey tried to use the locking backs once but found them too bulky & they instantly went in the trash!!!

I also use those backs that Dan mentioned. They are on all our lanyards as well as our son's scout uniforms. Between those two things, that's a lot of pins and we have yet to lose one.

Dan - i would love the ebay name of the person with the chrome backs also. I keep my Hat pins on with the allen wrench thingie and they are painful on the head. LOL Thanks, Penny

How much???

How much are they? I saw a post for $33.99 incl. shipping for 100 pin backs, is that the same seller?

you may post a link to this item in your post if you'd like :) (so you don't get swamped with PM's) -- i can see these backs being very useful.

Please post the link as I would like to order these as well. These look like the same backs as is used with the Disney service pins. I could use a bunch of these.

Dan,

Not sure if the fact that you carry a wrench to remove other peoples pins makes you crazy or just prepared.....I would guess a little of both ;)

PM sent to Niknaxx and Choas Cent with the seller info.

Chaos send, I also sent you a PM with the info

Thanks to both of you. :) Ordered them last night. Can't wait until I get them. My hat is the depository of my "keeper" show off pins (not holy grails normally). To wash the hat I have to take all the pins off. There are different allen wrenches for different pin backs. & Some of the pin backs don't fit all of the pins so I dread taking off/putting on the pins. There are about 20 pins on the hat. Using these pin backs will make life a lot easier. In fact I only got 1/2 way through putting them back last weekend and stopped because it was getting on my nerves LOL. Thanks again, Penny

He and I are both Scouters, so he's being prepared. I've never encountered the ones that use the allen wrench, so I wouldn't know what size to carry. I'm sure I have one in my tool box since I've acquired many different sizes over the years in the work I do.

Here's a link since Cicada said it was OK to post it. This is for 50 backs. He also sells them in packs of 10. He used to also sell them in 100 packs, but I haven't seen them like that in a while.

Oh man, I love these pin backs. They are the greatest invetions ever. Every trader I encounter at the parks is always jealous of them and how mine never fall off! Makes me feel safe enough to wear my rare centaurette pins without the chance of them falling off like ever!!

I do use the allen ones with the key for my lanyard, but these are on pins with special meaning for me, I am keeping, hence once they are on they are not taken off again. I carry all my trading pins in a special fanny pouch, this means I can carry some on the original card, or in plastic covers. All my other pins are kept safe at home. I will keep an eye out for them though.

Hi Spiffie
Thanks for the offer, not right now though...NO its not an issue, but Ebay users use to accept Money Orders but not anymore
Thats why I mentioned it

Sorry I missed the request to post the link. I have forwarded it to many people via PM.
Disney Scouter posted the same link (I may have sent it to him?)
Regardless, those are the exact ones I am discussing.

There is another version with a Pyramid back but they snag so dont be fooled. Use the link supplied by Disney Scouter.
Abd Yeas, I am a bit crazy and prepared. There was a time that after 6 months of looking we finally fount the last pin we needed on a lanyrad but they had the losck and we did not have a wrench. No way to get them off.

The person really wanted our pin too and did everything they could to turn it and twist it off right up to the point it broke.
Since then, I always carry (both size) the allen wrenches. Oh yeah and thanks Disney for changing the size so now you have to carry 2 different wrenches.

I too love these types of pin backs. However, I also use the kind with the allen key as well. Whenever I wore a pin as a Cast Member, I wore the non-allen key ones, because then I could switch it between the costume I was wearing that shift.

I use the allen key ones on like my pin bag, because I don't usually trade those anyway (Although I do carry a wrench to unlock it!)

In the end, I prefer the non-allen key ones. They are the best for switching between pins, etc.

We use the Allen wrench style that Disney sells. We use them on our keepers so not much chance of wanting or needing to trade them. Of course on the very off chance that we do (as I mentioned in a different post DBF did trade a keeper or two) we always have at least 1 of the Allen wrenches to take them off. I didn't know they had a new size Allen wrench, all of ours take 1 size. :)
I cannot use those butterfly/clamp style backs, I have fingernails so I can't get those back removed.
The ones in the middle look neat, I may have to try to find those. :)
