Hello DPF Sellers and Seekers,,,
We hope all are enjoying great sales,& some kinda profits, as well as finding all those lost holy grails, by using the sales forum here at DPF,

We need YOUR help!!!!!

Currently the sales forum has over 50 pages of open sales and wants listings.....Well over 1000 threads......
We need to close or end those sales and wants that are out of date or no longer YOUR CURRENT sales/wants thread.......
For both our sakes, for you the seller/seeker because no one wants go through that many listings,
and for us the site, as the open pages slow server speed.
And as you all know, the DPF Fourm rules for Sales says LIMIT of 2 ACTIVE per member ,,, violation of this is considered a infraction .....
WE are offering the following proposition to procure your aid,,,,,,,,,

DPF SALES FORUM AMNESTY WEEKS........

Starting today 6/22/2013 till 7/4/2013 if you close, or end your own old threads here on the Sales forum, no points or infractions will

be assigned to your account, after 7/4/2013 , if the staff must sort through the pages to close threads and finds you are in violation by
having multiple threads <beyond established limit> open, infractions and possible denied access to the Sales forum<depending on infraction
severity and frequency> may be implimented.
We are requesting that any sales/wants without any activity within the last 60 days be closed as well.

We urge you to please take care of any "overlooked" threads asap.

Thank you

Here are some tips for finding your threads.

Click on Advanced Search

Click on Search Single Content Type

Under Posts, in the Username box, type in your username. In the dropdown list, select Threads Started by this User

Under Additional Options, select Pins for Sale/Wanted from the Forum dropdown list.

Search

And like someone else posted. If you edit your original post, and select Go Advanced, if you scroll down you will see a box to close the thread without having to bump the thread.

I can't find the "close thread" box. :(

The easiest way to do it (not going to edit or advanced) is this way:

1. Go to your thread;
2. Open your thread;
3. At the top of the thread (under the title), there will be five "toolbars" (they are in grey). Toolbar will have these words in it (see the little arrows next to each toolbar):

  • Thread Tools
  • Administrative
  • Search Thread
  • Rate This Thread
  • Display

4. Click on the arrow next to the toolbar that says "Administrative"
5. The only option that will be to "close thread" which is already marked with the button.
6. Click on "Proceed."
7. Your sales/wanted thread will close.

NOTE: You can use this toolbar to re-open the thread.

Hope this helps!

This is probably WAY overdue... I will be happy to oblige.

However, what if someone doesn't see this thread and then one day they come to the forum and discover they've incurred points? Can you send a message to all users so that everyone will see the notice when they visit the forum? I'm just thinking of those people that won't click on this post because the title isn't "NEW RAPUNZEL PIN!" or "PTDs ARE BACK AT DSF!"

Good Point there

Unfortunately we cannot mass mail everyone, that is why we did this in a two week amnestiy program, this message is also stickey to the top of the sales forum and has been since the 22nd. We have given everyone a chance, and lets face it if you have active sales threads and havent checked them in two weeks, how active are they?

PM limits to 5 recievers per message, with over 10000 threads , that would be well over 200 pms to send out, with no guarantees .
We felt that this was the best way to reach the most amount of active sales participants. If you know someone whom is still using the sales forum but does not check at least within a two week period you may wish to let them know<hence the spread the word part>

We also apprecitate that the majority of our sales folks are paying attention and either have already begun or like you, understand that this is needed and are willing to help us help you<cmon jerry let me really hear you say it, Help me to help you!!!>Your efforts are hugely appreciated

thank you!!!!

So I want to fully understand this...

DPFs servers suck... We all know they cannot properly handle the needs of our growing community... It was discussed with owners that dedicated servers would make a world of difference and cost as well as what would be needed to implement this were discussed... We the members of your site held a fundraiser to raise enough money to fund your dedicated servers for 2 years and more with a commitment from me to do another fundraiser every other year to continue to keep it funded... The fundraiser was a total success and $5,000 was donated to DPF... Since this time there has been no additional resources invested into the site that has made any significant difference noticeable to us on the user end...

And now you are saying that if we don't go back through what are a couple years of threads for some members and relieve the pressure off our crappy servers then we are going to get infractions and be penalized as a result...

Why don't you do what you said and upgrade to proper servers and this would never even be an issue...

Moe,
unfortunately we the mods are in the same boat as everyone else server wise, and as for going thru the old posting, they should, by DPF rules be closed by thier OP anyway, we are offering a chance for folks to clean up thier "forgotten" threads without any fear of infraction or reprisal, this is not a crappy server issue, but more of a "be responsible to the rules issue" your work on the fundraiser was appreciated by all, and will help with the future of DPF to be sure, however our staff have lives outside of pins, and as this is a hobby and not a source of income or survival for the folks whom work for the site, time and patience will have to be used by all.
We greatly appreciate all of your efforts, but I fail to see where asking for folks to do what they should be doing anyway, and is part of the rules that all agreed to in using the site, and allowing a grace period to do it, sans infractions is an issue?
As for the new servers making having to close old threads obsolete, im pretty sure whatever server we are on, we will need to do periodic clean up, especially in light of the fact that the numbers of members whom post and do not close these threads will not decrease as the site grows in both popularity and usage.

I do understand your point and am not intending this as a slam against any of you MODs by any means... As a matter of fact it was a super cool MOD who helped me clean up my own...lol... But instead of infractions isn't there an easier way... Perhaps give people the grace period to bump their active sales thread and let people know that threads not posted on during the last month will all be deleted... Then do a mass deleting of pages 6 - 50.... Then once clean enforce the monitoring rule... And it should be no more than one... Why does anyone need two sales threads at the same time??

And it should be no more than one... Why does anyone need two sales threads at the same time??

Because it's a pin wanted or selling board. So 2 posts means someone can have a "I'm selling these random pins" post and an "I want to buy these DSF pins" post at the same time.

ok, I have closed what I can but cannot close threads that were not wanted, sales or trading. How do I close these?

Yes, I have some threads that were created under "Disney Pin Discussion" that I am unable to close. I know we weren't asked to close these but I figured, if I'm cleaning house, I might as well go all the way! :D So how do we close these other threads?

Do we have to ask a MOD to close them as I've seen others do in the past?

Have to ask a MOD to close those threads. We can only close our own threads in the marketplace forum.

Ok, when you say how many active threads we can have is that PER SECTION? Like if I have 2 in the pin sales and then one in the other sales section is that ok or is that considered too many? I will go through in the next few days and close anything I am not using any longer.

If you use my method above (post #5), you do NOT need to bump your old thread to the front page. Just a FYI.
