Disney Fairytale Designer Collection - Heroes & villains collection 2016
It would be nice to just have one release a year, either 17" or designer.

i like your idea because when we get too much LE dolls in a year people may get tired of purchasing every single doll. They have to saved up too. Its nice to have a whole year anticipating whats next while preparing funds for the next release. People may run out of room to put these dolls so they could stop altogether collecting.

Alice is my favorite of the sets. Actually overall, I though they did a great job with this year's designers sets but I also think the popularity of the limited dolls is starting to fade. People can only store so much, hopefully this means things calm down a bit, and it goes back to the days when there wasn't a buying frenzy every release day!

Actually I enjoy the buying frenzy...i love it when people talked about how they are gonna buy a doll, the anticipation, the posts about their new haul etc...i like the feeling that i was able to purchase something others failed to do. It somehow makes the doll more special. Thats why im happy when I meet new collectors because the more the demand the more my dolls value raise. Its just like me and my sibling. We get along well and have our share of fights sometimes and these fights makes our relationship less boring. I feel too that the interest is fading and this doll collecting trend depends on new collectors coming. Eventually collectors had to stop because what will they do when theres literally nowhere to place the dolls? I heard of one leaving her dolls in shipment box (without even bothering to open it) in her attic/ storage room because there simply nowhere else to put it. Whats the sense of purchasing a doll you cant display? Sometimes, they want to buy more dolls but just cant.

So I've never bought one of these dolls right off the bat. But I really want to get Alice. Should I go to the store or order online?

Going to the store now is probably a good idea. People have said that the past two releases have been DOA and that they don't even do raffles anymore. I would call the store you're planning on going to and asking them if they have any leftover dolls from the past 2 releases, cause if they do, then you're in the clear!

And if things don't turn out well in store, just get them online that night.

Definitely get the scoop from the store you're likely to go to. I was at the mall nearest to me (because in NJ, you have choices ha ha) yesterday to return stuff to Uniqlo, so I stopped in the Disney Store. They still have Cinderella and Belle. This particular store has only been open a couple of months (there was a DS in this mall for ages, but it closed a few years ago and they finally came back), so I asked the manager how the releases have gone, since I have no prior experience with ANY doll release there. She said they sold ONE Cindy on release day, and they still have a few in stock. Belle sold quicker in this store but as of yesterday, they still had a couple. She said flat-out that they haven't even bothered with the raffle because there just hasn't been a need for it. So I'm definitely going to this store next week to try for Alice. I'm still a little nervous that she, being unique, is going to generate surprising buzz/interest ... but I think I'll be OK. And I'd rather inspect my doll in person--this set doesn't have a "Lucifer" equivalent, but if I got my DS.com order and anything was wrong, I think I would have a hairy fit. Ha.

I think this year was a good release year so far. not too many dolls, well no where near the flood of dolls last year.I think a couple in the spring and then the designer set and a few more 17'' in the fall / winter is perfect. at least belle and gaston set sold out. cinderella and tremaine are still up. also noticed many of the art of items still available and that limited figure. I wonder if its all taking a permanent down turn at this point especially with no designer items to go with the dolls.

Yeah things sure are a lot quieter this year when compared to last year. I think people got so overwhelmed from last years' releases that many people are still trying to get back all the money they spent lol. Plus Disney releasing so much at one time certainly isn't helping. That being said, I expect 2017 to be another crazy year for collectors. Its a D23 Expo year with a bunch of new films coming out along with some anniversaries and the typical Blu-ray re-releases (the spring release is rumored to be Alice in Wonderland and the fall one is currently unknown), so I fully expect things to be crazy again.

The 15th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts is next year as well, and there is apparently a lot planned from Square Enix, but I REALLY hope Disney does something special for the franchise. Dolls would be incredible, but I don't have my hopes up lol.

The hair would be amazing on them both.

Anybody still waiting on their Belle and Gaston set to ship? I haven't received any email notification that the package is on its way, nor any phone calls or anything. Get worried now since it's sold out online and I can't reorder it if there's an issue.

I didn't order online, but I have read on FB that quite a few people haven't gotten any shipment notifications. I think they took care of people who paid for express shipping first, followed by regular shipping, followed by free shipping.

Thanks for the info! That makes me feel a little bit better, I was worried because my Cindy/Tremaine set was shipped the day after I ordered it. I'll wait a little while longer before contacting them. Worst comes to worst, I'll order off ebay. They lost my Rapunzel/Gothel set last year but was able to get one on ebay for only slightly more than retail. That's the good thing about the lack of popularity with this set, I guess.

I would still call tomorrow (since that will be one week from your initial order and 5 business days later) to check on the status.

Thanks for the replies! I feel quite a bit better now. My plan is if they haven't shipped by Wednesday morning, I'll make a call. If nobody else's dolls have shipped yet then I'm not gonna call them up and bug them about it.

I'm going to try for the Alice set in person, at my local Disney Store. The mall opens at 10am, should I get there before that. Or just after it opens? I have class that evening (college) so bringing things. To keep me busy isn't a problem nor is waiting in line and or/waiting til the raffle (if the do it).

Call to find out whether they are doing the raffle (call the day before). If they are doing the raffle, ask what time they do it from (they usually take entries from 12 noon to 1 pm and start the raffle at 1:15 p.m.). Then call again at opening the day of the release to verify they didn't change their mind.

Okay wait, so some stores are doing first come first serve on the designer dolls? Like I know some stores aren't doing the raffle if they have enough dolls for everyone by the time it hits 1:00, but are some not even bothering to do that? That makes me a little nervous honestly if that is the case, especially considering I am so on the fence about getting the Alice set and I want to see them in person first.

Don't they have them out on display already? Just go to a DisneyStore and look at the one they have up on the Display....

Yes I know that and the display dolls were what I was referring to. But my store is around an hour away. Between work and school and the fact that me and my family share a vehicle, I can't really go whenever I want so I have to plan a few weeks in advance. I planned on seeing them in store the day of release and deciding then seeing the drawing isn't supposed to actually start till 1:00 PM, giving me plenty of time to decide. And while I do have pictures people have of them already to go on, I feel like I still need to see them in person to fully appreciate the set.

It doesn't really matter either way. If they do end up doing a first come first serve release for whatever reason and they happen to be sold out whenever I go there, I can just try to get the set online. I do want this set as I love the film and have wanted some kind of new Alice doll for a while now, but I have become very picky with my money these days and I dunno if I am 100% sold on it yet.

Ah Gotcha! I hope they do have a raffle then!
