There is a person or persons (to be known on this thread as POI) out there who are buying Disney merchandise on ebay and then "selling" Disney LE dolls of the same price to another person on social media sites. POI then tells the ebay seller that they have no access to their paypal, give them a different email address (said to belong to a relative), and ask them to invoice POI. Not knowing it belongs to a different person all together, the buyer on social media then pays for the Ebay item. POI requests express shipping to their Ebay address so that they may have the item as soon as possible, and the social media buyer never receives the item they paid for. The social media buyer then requests the money back for the item they never received and Paypal sides with them, making the ebay seller out of money and a doll.

My sister was almost a victim to this scheme back in November and was out express shipping costs because of it, but apparently there were many people hit last week on Facebook and Ebay. If you are one of these victims, I suggest you try to contact the other person and file a fraud case against POI with the FBI and/or local authorities.

What is POI?

Unless an administrator allows it, due to forum rules, I can't post names. This seems contained to dolls and figures for now, though. Feel free to PM me though if you feel you might have encountered them.

Person of interest?

Oh, yeah, if that's what you're talking about, yes.

They also use many different names, emails and Facebook profiles.
I was scammed by this ring in a doll trade.

If it's too good to be true - then it is!

Are there any variations to the post above that you can share with us? I'd like to get as much information on here as possible for those who may get caught up in all this.

This was in late October 2015, they scammed me in a trade but I guess as more groups or more strict on trading, they've moved into more elaborate scams.
Dont have anything to add other than it's all the same people, using the same address and eBay account.

I accidentally read your post as saying "POS" instead. Seems equally appropriate.

Thanks for spreading the word!

Yeah people are in a doozy with the amount of people they have in that ring. its so shady and terrible.

That's awful! (And sounds really complicated, too...) Is there any way to expose it to eBay itself somehow? That's the only thing I can think of that would stop it, at least partly.

The problem with Internet fraud is that it's not restricted geographically as burglary is for eg. Let me explain. Because in most cases we are talking about state to state crimes or even countries to countries internet crimes the laws may differ from one place to another. Which makes prosecuting these crimes really hard. Not only that but the amount of Internet fraud has exploded in the last few years due to the Internet's general purpose to connect everybody together. With that being said we would need an entire police force of investigators to try to go after these people and this is financially impossible to realize. State to state Internet fraud is the FBI's mandate and unfortunately they usually go after much bigger rings due to a lack of manpower and resources. So unless these people are involved in other scams they may be able to get away with it for a long time. The only thing I can recommend if you have been scammed by this ring is to fill out the form on ic3.gov. Eventually if there are enough complaints they may actually look into it.

With that being said it is possible they are already investigating but these cases take years before it leads to any arrests and more time afterwards before it hits courts.

Sorry if I don't explain well. English isn't my first language and I had a long week.

Aw it's a shame people take advantage of what should be a great way for collectors to connect and make trades/sales... I can say that any and every eBay user should know never to take any sales outside of eBay I don't care what story you get I wouldn't care, there is no reason for them to be on eBay to then request you go off of eBay.

even with their shipping address nothing can be done? I mean if they shipped the doll to their home wouldn't tracking prove it went to the thief? And local or other authorities could do something?

I have always wondered about this^ I was scammed out of some pins a while back and I called the police dept. in the area of that person, they just told me that they couldnt do anything and to contact PinPics (which i did and now they are no longer there). But it makes me feel used and helpless. :(

This guide will help you while in the park or at trade events!!!

Believe me. If an admin would allow me to put their address or even their city down on this thread I would.
