You could try taking a bit of acetone on a q-tip to it and leaving it there for 10 seconds if it's from screen printing. That's what doll people do. I don't think 10 seconds would damage the enamel underneath. I would try it on a scrapper first though.

Thanks for the suggestion but I think a friend may have gotten an extra they're going to trade me so I'll have a good one for my collection. :) #luckytohaveawesomefriends

Sweet! I'm happy you got your perfect pin. I thought DSF had a two pin option for exchange, so I find it weird they only showed you one.

As a chemist, I would advise against using acetone for anything other than enamel (Free-D, puffy pins, etc.) because acetone can melt (dissolve) plastics. Rubbing alcohol is a better option for those types of pins...

This has been happening for a while. When people say they don't like the flip, is it because of the characters, the artwork, the LE sizes or what? I'm curious because I think this is a good flip. There's a Wonderland character (and they are popular) and two characters who almost never get pins and these are nice ones of them. So I don't understand it. Does no one want people who collect more obscure characters to get to add to their collections? For the record I don't collect any of these, but I'm glad that people who do are able to get them. Does everyone want nothing but Ariel and Rapunzel pins? Why are people happy with "popular" characters even when the artwork is bad?

For me at least, it's because there are two "fringe" characters/films in this one. Which means the flip will stay for a while probably. I think people prefer one super star, one moderate, and one fringe.

As for the artwork, I think these are great, especially considering what they had to work with. XD

I think a lot of it, unfortunately, has to do with the "resale value" of the pins. There just isn't a demand for Home on the Range or Mr. Toad pins, and nor is there a strong enough presence of "obscure character collectors" to warrant a different type of popularity. Popularity = $$$, and there certainly is a strong presence of people in the pin trading community who place emphasis on the dollar value of a pin over anything else.

There is also just standard trade value too. Though, you're perfectly right get in saying that monetary resell value (which now frequently dictates trade value) is the real deciding factor.

I like the obscure characters! The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad happens to be a favorite of mine. And I agree with Tiggerific, how many versions of Ariel do you need? (PS - I love Ariel so that isn't a diss!) LOL

Very true. I think that right now I'm just focused on traders like those because recently I was declined on a trade for a great tinker bell pin because "I'm looking for pins in the $250 range" :rolleyes: Still a little mad about that, but I guess each person has their own valuing system. Either way, I have a feeling that this aspect of pin trading greatly affects the public response of releases like these. (That being said, I think the designs for these pins are great! Hopefully their "unpopularity" will allow the collectors who really appreciate them to get them at a reasonable cost.)
 
The hedgehog is adorable in person and a nice size too!

i got an extra one for trade - will add to my post in the ptd trading thread - but only looking to trade towards the pins in my sig or for the dug cone of shame ptd. :)

It really bothers me that I can't see Slim's other arm. I get it's probably under his poncho thing, but I feel I should still be able to see some of it.

For me, it's strictly that there are still five more pins that were previewed last August that still haven't come out yet. I am (not so patiently) waiting for Gideon, and many others are waiting for Armored Baymax. This past year has been a real yawn with respect to Cats with Ice Cream (what I'm looking for). Not a one, except the rumored Gideon...

OK, so what I'm getting is that a "good" flip is a flip of pins that are considered to be of "monetary value" and so that's the criteria of "good" for most people. Guess I'm a weirdo, I just don't think that way. :tigger:

I know there are other ways for you non-L.A. guys to get obscure ptds for your collections (Timeerkat seems to be amazing at helping people get their Ghirardelli pins) but if anyone needs the obscure character ptds for their collection because it's a character you love/collect you can always hit me up and if I can get there I'll get you one at cost or whatever. I have no way of knowing if it's for your collection, but if it's a "bad" and "low value" pin I guess you wouldn't want it for any other reason. :lol:
