Disney Store Limited Edition Dolls - 12" and Designer - 2017
Some years we had early leaks, other years weren't so early. They probably want to tighten up any potential leaks this time around, and that one year the leaks were so early someone was selling the dolls when they shouldn't have been. The dolls are such a big target collectible market for them I do think we'll get another collection but I hope it's something new and more exciting.
 
no leaks=collector disinterest (personally, I notice that about myself. My attention drifts and I may become interested in something else instead), so I don't know why they'd really want to do that.

On the plus side for Disney, Mattel has really been letting me down lately so they aren't likely to distract me from anything good Disney finally gets around putting out. However, at this rate (no interesting doll news since forever) I might end up focusing on one of my many other hobbies instead, especially as the weather warms.
 
I am feeling a little bored myself lately with the lack of any kind of doll news or leaks, but it's easy to understand why Disney would double down on making sure nothing gets out. Considering that the last D23 leaks were caused by someone who literally stole the dolls from the company and attempted to sell them, I think it's safe to say that they are trying to avoid another disaster like that as much as possible. The moment some kind of news or leak drops, the hype train will go full force and won't die down anytime soon after that. but it's just boring getting to that point. We have big movies like Pirates of the Caribbean 5 coming out between now and then to keep some of us occupied at least.

You are both correct in that it gets a bit boring around here without any doll news. I am eagerly awaiting some new 17" Le doll info or even designer ones also I am waiting to see if Disney drops any Pirates merchandise at all since this is the rides 50th anniversary plus the new movie is supposed to be the last I guess or thats the impression I got from the trailer anyway. Hopefully we will get some new and exciting news that will get the hype train started again. I know I am sticking around as its part of this hobby Disney can keep you in the dark for so long regarding whats coming next

I am in LOVE with that Mulan set! It looks so good! Too bad it's a D23 exclusive because I would buy that in a heartbeat! Considering that every past D23 designer doll has been a variant of some kind, maybe this means that the regular release version will be of Mulan in her "hero of China" dress with the sword and medallion? I have been wanting a doll in that outfit for a long time now, so I sure hope that's the case!

That said, I am a little annoyed that this implies that we are getting two doll sets yet again for this wave. At the same time, this also implies that maybe this wave won't consist entirely of princesses and might focus on heroines and specific movie moments! I can't wait to see more!

Gorgeous couple, can't wait to see the regular LE version of them. If it's anywhere near as nice I'm definitely getting them.
 
Or can I even hope for a Mulan and Shan Yu?

As SEXY as Li Shang is..... (I do love him, and eeep! I'm very pleased he does have rooted hair!) I really love the drama of Heroes vs. Villains, and Mulan vs. Shan Yu would be So. Awesome.
 
They really seem keen on this Minnie line. This one makes 4 right? Would be really cool if they made a Daisy to go with her.

And Mulan as the variant exclusive set??? I never could have predicted that! I mean, people have been complaining for years about how under represented that movie is in merchandise/marketing, and the reason for it was always understood to be the relative unpopularity and therefore lack of profit to be had... And now here's Disney, voluntarily including Mulan in a non princess line, making TWO, and at least one of them involves decidedly un-glamorous battle armour! And it doesn't even coincide with a dvd release or live action movie or anniversary or anything! I feel like I've woken up in a parallel universe (a very very good parallel universe).
 
Finally the Mulan doll in battle outfit I have literally always longed for, and it's a D23 exclusive. That's...great.
 
So happy to see the exclusive release for D23 is Mulan!! :D Plus now there's rumours how this increases the chance of there being a 17" doll but I'm not sure how the tow are connected but nonetheless I'm excited :)
 
This is such a strange but welcomed set to the Designer Collection. I'm REALLY confused as to what the theme will be this year now that we have seen this set but people have been asking for this version of Mulan for a long time. I can't believe it's an exclusive but there should be a regular version in a different outfit?? I'm excited to see the rest.

There are rumors that the Blue Fairy is somehow being represented in the set as well, so the most common theory is that the theme is "movie moments". Hopefully that means that we aren't going to be only limited to princesses and princes in their iconic outfits and we are instead going to get a diverse lineup of characters. Stuff like this is why I love D23 Expo years so much, because literally anything can happen and Disney always gets more creative than normal.

Also, yes there should be a regular Shang and Mulan set. Every D23 exclusive designer set has always been a variant of some kind (like how 2015's set was Elsa in her coronation outfit with Hans), so that means that the regular set will probably be of Mulan in her "savior of China" dress with the sword and medallion with Shang (which I am all here for seeing I have wanted a doll of Mulan in that dress for SO long now).
