So I have a quick question about the pinpics uploading process--mods please remove if this isn't allowed or isn't the right place. But I think we have some pinpics mods around, so perhaps they can answer the question. :) I uploaded a slew of pins last week to pinpics (all of the October releases and the Haunting Halloween pins) pretty much in one sitting. All of the Halloween pins have since been posted, which were the last ones I did I think, but the others haven't at all. So I was wondering if for some reason those weren't accepted? Or if the process is different for them some how? Just hoping someone can give us a peak behind the curtain at the process. :)

PS - this isn't a gripe or a complaint, I just want to know in case I did something wrong. I don't want to waste that time again in the future doing the same wrong thing again. XD

Thanks!

~Merlin

maybe it's a duplicate of one that's sitting in the queue to be added?
I was thinking that too, but then why did the later ones get added and the others (even the original that I duplicated) get added? It was just an odd rollout that I figured there had to be a reason. :)

What you're describing happens to me all the time. It seems the moderators pick and chose which ones to add when. I uploaded ~12 pins obtained at LIAA and they were added at various times across about 4 weeks and in no particular order. None of these 12 pins appeared in the rotating gallery (ie, the most recently added 18 pins). I am not sure the method to the madness of the adding... but sooner or later my pins are added.

You might need to keep going back a few pages in the gallery to see all of them.

Could it be based on anticipated popularity of the pin? If someone has insight, I would also like to know the reasoning.

I'm wondering if the uploaded pins get split among the moderators and so some are quicker at posting than others? It doesn't seem like there would be any use in picking and choosing, unless certain ones get separated out for a reason--and if so, it's that reason that I'm curious about. XD

And that's true, so of mine might have gotten back logged rather than hitting the "front page". I'll keep my eye on that too. :)

Could it perhaps have anything to do with the release date? Other than thinks like wdi, will pinpics only upload pins that have been released? For instance, I uploaded the Doorways to Disney Haunted Mansion pin, since it was announced on the flyer. But since it hasn't actually come out, would that be why it hasn't posted? But then, what about the Batb Musical Melodies and the Jungle Book Anniversary that was released when I uploaded them? The mysteries abound! XD

Unless things have improved there aren't that many Mods actually adding them .
I was told they were down to one person at one point , I'm not sure if that's correct though .
I do know I've had some be instant and some take weeks , when adding it seems the general rule is the more information the better . The more elaborate the description the better

My descriptions are usually pretty thorough. My English major kicks in and I just go. XD

For example, I figured out the Roman numerals on the Headless Horseman pin that just came out! That was a fun puzzle. XD

And dang, just one person!? I know that's a herculean task... I wish I had more time and I'd volunteer. Maybe over the summer. :)

I add quite a few pins myself too, and most of the time they get added pretty much instantly or after a few days max. I also had it happen that a pin got added, but never appeared on the front page between the newest pins. I did see I got extra points though, so I went to look for it and found it already two pages down although it only just got added. Which unfortunately didn't help the amount of people looking for it, while other similar pins immediately got a lot of interest.. ;) So perhaps you can find them a little more down the list?

It's correct. They actually posted about it on their forum recently to let people know things would be slow for a while. Others had personal emergencies. I did notice a couple pins I loaded recently have been posted, so possible that they are back now. But I also have a couple I posted a while ago that never showed up so I do think there is a certain amount of selection going on to stay on top of the volume.

I do think it takes a bit of work by the mods to confirm some pins are not duplicates... case in point were several duplicates uploaded recently. The older the pins, the more checking that is needed. Since the 12 pins I uploaded from LIAA were all ~1-3 years old, its not too surprising they took awhile. If its a new pin, its less likely to be a duplicate... I would think. Although the caldron Maleficent from MNSSHP 2017 was added 2Xs (but one was removed pretty quick.)

Also, if they get the recent pins released approved quick, it will stop other users from wasting their time adding a pin someone has already added, but just hasn't been approved yet.

So recent pins, popularity and ease may be the prioritization thought process right now?

I have a PinPics upload question too. I uploaded a pic (like.. the first step). The page will go into the next step, but nothing shows up.
Then, I tried another pic and it worked, but when I tried to resize it to fit well, it didn't save it the way I moved it.

What do?

That's happened to me before too, but that tends to be just a server hiccup, I've found. Usually it settles out after a few tries or if I come back later.

I've had the same experience as everyone else. I've submitted several entries that were approved within hours; others that I submitted over a week ago still aren't up, while newer releases have been added before them. It seems kind of arbitrary tbh - I'm not sure there's any specific rhyme or reason to their approval process, as others have suggested. For whatever reason, the DSF surprise release pins from nearly a month ago (Bookmarks, Walk in the Park, etc) still aren't in the database. Meanwhile, those pins from the perfume/lip balm sets released just last week (Dinah, Mrs. Potts, etc) are already up. So I doubt it's based strictly on the predicted popularity of any given pin... I suspect an LR Mrs. Potts pin will likely garner less interest than an LE 300 DSF pin that sold out within an hour. :dunno:

Likewise, I'm not complaining! I hope it doesn't sound like that. I'm sure they have a lot on their plate running a high-traffic site that undoubtedly requires a great deal of maintenance. It's just a bit puzzling. I could probably volunteer a little time to moderate as well, but it sounds like they aren't actually accepting volunteers? I wonder why, when it seems like they could certainly use the help, and I'm sure many capable and experienced collectors would happily do it for free!

I think they have a lot on their plate. I submitted photos for the Dark Tales pins to replace the ones they currently have (that's the concept art from the poster) but those have yet to be approved.

This is the part that puzzles me too. I'm sure whoever is approving pins is doing the best they can, but it's a big job. Why not put out a call for a new mod or two? There's so little communication from the site runners to the community at large, and I worry it will reduce the site's utility as a resource. I've already seen several people comment on Facebook that they don't bother to submit pins anymore. There's no incentive to spend their time when the pins don't appear.

This is my major thing too. I love pinpics and I really don't want it to lose traffic or utility. But is rather discouraging when I do an upload run and nothing happens for weeks. Or some of it gets approved and the rest doesn't. Or worse, the pin gets uploaded, but without my description or picture so I wasted that effort. :(

Again, super small potatoes, but it's definitely sending people away from the site and that make some super sad. :(

Just let us help you! <3 hahah!

In my experience... I would say it is only one out of every 10 pins I upload which ends up not being added... usually because someone else has added it (and the pin selected is not always added first, ie, before my added pin). When this has happened I concluded I need to step up my game and add higher quality pictures and descriptions. Another idea is to pick off low hanging fruit when you added a pin. Don't add the recent release/obvious pin. Go for the more obscure pin that may even have been out awhile and no one has added it.

It is surprising when others say they cannot get their pins added. I would like to ask why the Pinpics user has decided their pins are not being added. Like Merlin says... "Just let us help you!" Perhaps the solution is to tweak what they are doing.

Has anyone else observed, the pins@cost seems to be run like a competition (there is even a leaderboard).

I feel the same way about time wasted, they really should go back to the previous system where pin listings would appear instantly. They can still check the listings, they just have to keep a record of the last numbered pin they checked for quality control and carry on from there. At least that way it would resolve the issue of people feeling disheartened about the whole process, and it would save us wasting time adding a pin that's already been added. The longest I waited recently for a pin to appear on the database was four weeks. For me, its just about getting a pin on the database so I have the chance to offer it for trade, and of course to add those to my collection and get a pin number for my spreadsheet haha!

I recently added one of the Ariel pins from the latest ParkPack edition and after not seeing it for a while I contacted the mods. They said that it was approved for submitting, but they try to approve in order of first submitted to last submitted. Although its been a few weeks and I still haven't seen it up yet :(

Ive also uploaded EU pins but nothing. I want to add that I have one for trade, but since its still not up I cant. But I guess the mods needs a bit of holiday over the holidays as well. Just hope they start catching up soon.

They've been behind for months now and don't seem to be doing anything to correct it, which is a real shame. Pins@Cost seems to have been abandoned as well. I've honestly stopped checking for updates.
