Disney Store Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion - 2017
I just tried adding to the bag and it says "sold out" yet it lets me get to the checkout. Very odd.

That's because she quite literally just sold out, and it hasn't entirely processed through the system yet. I know because I've had her in my bag since this morning and I've periodically refreshed as I debated whether to purchase. Of course, just when I was going to do it, she sold out. HA. Thank you, Cosmos, for saving me money, I guess!

LOL. I did order her this morning around 7 or 8 am Pacific Time.

I wish I had your restraint Ann!

Iread on flickr yesterday that someone got her order cancelled and then she reoprdered it - I have a feeling this release won't be a really happy one for collectors, it looks like they are overselling :(

I think they've been cancelling orders placed before saks' announcement was released.

Gotta say I honestly feel bad for Saks with this - they had nooooo idea what they were getting into. Hopefully they'll get the orders straightened out. I'm not a Snow collector but that gown is gorgeous and would certainly be a nice addition to a collection.
As for Frozen, I gotta say I think Elsa's dress for this short is maybe my favorite thing they have ever put her in. I love the design. Not too crazy about Anna's face mold and paint, but I really like Elsa's doll. Hopefully shouldn't have a problem getting her. Fingers crossed!

I got up this morning and was at my local Saks about 10 minutes after opening. I got worried because there was a huge crowd. Turned out to be a breast cancer awareness and walk/raffle runway thing. Anyway, I was able to get one. I was the first one there and told they had 30 in stock. By the time I picked up my doll (they weren't out on the floor yet), they had already gotten calls to ship them out. The sales lady told me they had a meeting last night about them, so I guess they had some clue about the desire for them. It was funny, she was super excited to get me one and kept telling me I was the first one to ask about them.

She is breath taking in person. It's hard not to go back for another to have as back up, or a debox. I'm not greedy, though, and I have bjd's on layaway that need payments. I just hope there aren't too many scalpers on this one, so people who want her can get her. If anyone here wants her, call around, they will ship them and hold them.

A great big thanks to all who posted about her. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Anyone know when Elsa and Anna will be released? I've read through the posts, but must keep missing it if it's there. I imagine at 7k they won't be too hard to get, but I'm one of the ones who will still buy Frozen dolls and don't want to miss out. I think Elsa is lovely. Anna's cute enough and the dolls always look better in person. As an avid doll collector, I can really appreciate the quality of their stock and packaging.

The Fever dolls are selling on the second hand market for about retail now, so I'm thinking there won't be so many scalpers on this set and hope that means the scalpers are moving on for the most part. I remember Elsa fever selling for around $300 after release. She was the only one I went to the store to get and I got the last one there. I wanted her right away, but knew I wouldn't pay Ebay prices.

Thanks, Meritre. I can't remember how close the Fever dolls released to the short, and wonder if they'll be around the same time. I don't see it being hard to get them, but still don't want to miss out.

Wow really loving the new Saks 5th Snow White. She looks like either a holiday or wedding version. I just couldn't justify spending that much on a doll. Although a few have already sold for more on ebay now...I am surprised since she didn't sell out right away (when I saw she was announced, she was still available). I am just going to have to patiently wait for Pocahontas and Mulan!

She's Holiday. Saks has partnered with Disney this year to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Snow White. The 5th Ave NYC Saks is offering a character breakfast on weekends from about Thanksgiving to New Year's, and Snow will be incorporated into this year's holiday windows.

My real hope is that this DOESN'T turn into an annual thing, with a different princess each year. Hahaha. I don't collect princesses, but holiday dolls are hard to resist.

I think one reason she didn't sell out is more that the frenzy has died down, and a lot of the popularity had been created from scalpers buying them up too. Before, people were buying dolls just out of fear of missing out in case they were on the fence about one, but thought they couldn't afford it later on the second hand market. People have been buying so many dolls, and now they have no room left. They are finding a lot of the dolls aren't holding their value with so many people now disinterested, so they may actually lose money if the sell them. Most people thought they could only go up in value. Some of the disinterest is coming from Disney's past year releases.

I wasn't interested in any of the designer 12" this year, nor a lot of the 17" dolls. I like Disney is doing less popular characters and going a bit out their comfort zone, but at the same time, it's not excited me. I think there's sort of a frenzy that happens when you get a doll you love. You kind of keep looking for the next fix. I was also very disappointed in a lot of the design and quality of a lot of the 12" dolls released in the prior year. Still, I would have paid for more the heroes/villains designer sets this year if they released them and I was interested in the characters. I felt they could have done more with that series. Overall, as a long time doll collector, I don't even think to check too often on Disney releases anymore. I like the dolls are more obtainable, but still, there haven't been too many I wanted to obtain.

Also, a lot of people didn't know about Saks SW. There was next to no promotion, or pre-release hype about it. I think if she were on the Disney store site, more people would have gone for her. I also think they would have charged a lot more for her, at least $500, based on their prior platinum releases. She is so gorgeous in person and one of the most beautiful dolls I own of any collection. If she had been released two years ago, she'd be have sold out and been snapped up on Ebay at triple her retail value. Right now, with less interest overall and so many Snow White dolls released, she's not getting the recognition she deserves. I think $370 is a fair price for her based on the detail in the gown, doll and packaging. She looks more like a $500 to me. I really hope Saks/Disney does more releases like this.

I am looking forward to Pocahontas and Mulan too, but will wait to see how they'll turn out before deciding to buy them. I have to admit I'm a dubious if there's enough to work with there to justify the price for me. The doll's stock is a huge selling factor for me.

OK, I just realized (d'oh!) that technically the Saks doll isn't a Disney Store doll, but a 17" made by Disney specifically for Saks. I would say similar to Harrod's but Harrod's actually has a Disney Store on site and that's where the Frozen and Aurora dolls were sold.

But I saw some more pictures on Flickr user DRJ1828. Here you go!
