2017 PTD Discussion Thread - UPDATED 11/28/17
Can anyone explain to me why these are all of a sudden hot again? The addition of a backing card makes them better somehow? I understand popular characters selling out fast but since when are Pete and Eeyore prime characters? I'm hoping that nothing I collect comes out until this frenzy dies down, lol.

They'e larger than the previous PTDs, for one. Also, Eeyore has always been a popular character, especially for PTDs. Even the second one still is valued at a minimum $50, often more. Pete isn't popular, but he was an LE200 PTD, which got people interested.

Plus, the PTDs have to flip during today's Coco release for them to get a new set out. Otherwise, no new PTDs until Monday (if the PTDs sell out anytime after the Coco release is done)

Sorry, this discussion about the backing cards or that the pins are larger somehow add value to an otherwise unpopular character just reminded me of this...

And do these people make enough money off these pins to not be working? I mean, who has time to stay at DSSH for two days in a row?

Well, I had to take a LOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGG lunch today (as in several hours between driving and waiting in line) but got my Alice - yay! Now comes the waiting and hoping for that previewed White Rabbit...

That said... I was surrounded in line by a sea of sharks all talking about how much $$ they are making off of these PTD's and instructing the people they brought with them which pins they were required to get, too. It was completely and utterly unpleasant and depressing to be around and made me glad I rarely have to go there anymore. :( I didn't encounter anyone who was actually getting a pin because they *collect* them besides myself. :(

I'm not sure about now, but yesterday they slowed the line because there was a lot of cutting which caused fighting they had to stop at the front. The security guard was saying that people were asking to use the bathroom and then getting in line right after in the store, so that's why they are pulling 25 at a time and only giving the tickets when you get to the very front. Earlier today they're were trying to keep the cutting that was happening in the front down by keeping everyone under the area on the side of the building and then counting them out from there and sending them to get their tickets right at the front. They were also checking off the numbers on all those tickets to make sure no one was reusing them. That may be part of the slowing, but there could be another cutting fight again.

And I'm just not going to let my four year old know that this pin exists.... Deny, deny, deny. Or at least until I can somehow trade for it. Why is she an Eric collector????

XD I love that episode.

So far, though, none of the new wave of PTDs have really been very UNpopular characters, at least not to the extent of previous flips. Fred is obscure except for BH6 collectors but the pin looks badass. Pete is the closest to an unpopular character so far but he was LE200. Lionheart isn't the main character but even if the character isn't popular Zootopia is still a draw. I'm not saying that the flip madness isn't crazy, but the releases have been, I think, justifiably popular considering a lot of people have this week off and can go to DSF in the middle of the day.

Oh man oh man, that Ariel and Eric is cute, lol. Have they done couples before...?

As mentioned, older Carl and Ellie were released specifically as a couples PTD. They also have a WALL-E and EVE couples pin. Other PTDs with two characters as a couple (though not the big size with the background) are the previously mentioned King and Queen of Corona, as well as one with the Church Mice from Robin Hood.

So they said that after the Coco release was concluded, they'd do no more flips until Monday. When is a release "concluded"? When the pins sell out? At the end of the day? When are we safe from the flipping madness?
