OK, you lot! In my tenure as a pin collector, I've gone through multiple shadowboxes, etc, for displaying my collection. (I started with a couple small 9x12 ones from Target, when I was "not going to buy too many pins, just a few I really like" and then one day came home from work, walked into my room, and was like, "Oh my God when did this turn into a shadowbox factory?!?")

I've been using Ung Drill frames from IKEA because they're relatively affordable but have a nice girly vibe that I like. I just wrap corkboard in fabric so it looks nicer and pop my pins in.

BUT ... once again ... the volume of these frames is increasing, and I don't have infinite wall space. Plus, when BF and I get an apartment, although I will be putting my stuff all over the place (HA), there will still be a limit. So I think I have to condense a few of these frames (which are decorative but perhaps impractical, thanks to the curved edges) into fewER, more accommodating frames.

The problem is: I still want something kinda purty. Not just a plain ol' corkboard, if I can avoid it. (Side note: @katelouise always finds the greatest frames, but she's in New Zealand and often picks them up at garage sales, which means I can't even beg her for sources.)

So, any suggestions for places to look for large, interesting frames that maybe won't cost a TON? I keep checking Home Goods but maybe somebody here will name a store that I have access to that I've just never thought of looking ...

Those frames were from IKEA?? I really like those... should've asked before I went thrift shopping for my BatB frames.

I guess you can always check thrift shops! People donate old paintings/ pictures, and I just take them out to use the frames :p

Awwww, but they really do look purdy the way you have them. :( I second Erin's advice, goodwill always has frames in abundance. My question is, where do you get the cork to cut out?

Thanks. Ha ha, a few of these frames look great. But we're getting into "I have six ... seven ... eight ..." territory. And they don't exactly line up on the wall neatly, it's kind of a pain.

As for the cork, you need patience. Both Target and Michael's sell cork in 12x12 squares, and Michael's sells it in rolls (of 2 different thicknesses). So your choice is to "piece" together pieces of the squares or I have also resorted to cutting out two ovals from the thicker rolls and hot-gluing them together before covering with fabric. That usually gives me the right thickness to hold the pins. I do think, in hindsight, it might have been better to just suck it up and play puzzles with the squares, because it's the right thickness from the start. But ... ya live, ya learn!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I have a bunch of stuff of my mom's/household that my dad doesn't want/need/know what to do with, so maybe I can drop off at Goodwill and scope their goods while I'm there!

There's a store called At Home (or @Home) that does that sort of stuff, and it's just a huge, massive warehouse kind of thing. I'm not sure if they've made it that far north though. I think they used to be called Garden Ridge...

Michael's has their custom frame department, they always have a 40-50% off coupon that I would take advantage of.

OH. We've got a whopping *one* of these, apparently. In Cherry Hill, which isn't close--but BF found some restaurant down there that he wants to go to, soooooooooooo looks like we gon take a trippppppp. (Except not with his car. He will have to ride home on the roof so I have room for my stuff!)

Might just want to double check the website or something before you go frolicking on a long trip XD don't want to send you on a goose chase!

@Disneychildwithin Michaels has massive rolls of cork. Mine is 5/8” thick which might be kinda thick... it was that of 3/8” which I thought was too thin. It’s kinda expensive, so save those coupons!!

If you plan to stick pins with no mickey heads on the other side, 5/8” is fine. In fact, post is just a little longer so it might poke through.

@Addicted to Alice Pins maybe you can also consider a canvas? Although I’m not sure how much weight it can hold if it’s getting poked through with a lot of pins.

You’ll def have to consider weight if you only want a few large frames cuz mo pins, mo weight.

Eh, boy wants to eat. Might as well poke around "while we're in the neighborhood." Ha ha ha.

I knowwwwwww. I actually found some frames I liked in Home Goods, but they were some kind of hard memo board and I couldn't figure out how much weight was from the FRAME and how much was from the innards (like, all the stuff I was going to ditch). So I opted not to buy them, because I was afraid I'd have to bolt the finished product to the wall to ensure it didn't break off the nails in the night and crush me in my sleep (or something). HA.

Do you have Hobby Lobby in your neck of the woods? For my BatB pins I bought a couple of open backed frames with 40 or 50% coupons. Then I bought full sheets of mat board when they were on sale, and cut them down to size. Otherwise, I usually just do the garage sale / thrift store thing.

My favorite option was the sea grass bulletin boards someone here recommended when DPF first started. I bought all I could find as they were being discontinued. My dream is for someone to bring them back someday.

Hey, I've got one of these too. And I never knew it! Something new to check out.

Ohhhh this is how it starts!!! Six months from now, I'll still be deciding how to swap out my pin boards, and in the meantime, Hope (an innocent bystander) will have redecorated her whole house! :D

We are now going on Saturday. About a month ago, DH and I were checking out a new-to-us donut shop on our way to a town north of us for a day trip. On the way, I point to a building and said, "Wait, that is where Target was." Turns out the old Target is the new atHome store. I feel better knowing that this store was not here the entire 8 years we've been living in our house and I'm only finding out about it now. DH is totally on board with this plan, because on donut day he wanted to go to a bookstore he had recently found out about which is around the corner from this store, but it was closed. So now he wants to try again.

EVERYBODY WINS!

Except ... where's your Target? They opened a new one before they closed the old one, right? HOW CAN YOU LIVE WITHOUT A TARGET?

We have 2 Targets closer to us than this former Target. One is only a mile away from us. So thankfully, we are not Target-less. Which is good because the cats would starve to death and have no litter. But I would maybe have more money.

I still remember, in the 80s, visiting my Grandma in Wisconsin, and my Mom being so excited because it meant we got to go to Target. This was before Target was a nationwide company, and really only had stores in the mid-west. We had driven from WA, so a good bit of the trunk was filled with treasures from Target, because my parents had just finished remodeling our bedrooms / bathrooms and so we needed new stuff. She went quite bonkers when Target came to our town in Washington. Then it got better, when my Grandma moved to Washington. My Grandma had worked at Gimbels flagship store in Milwaukee, which got bought by Marshall Fields, which got bought out by Target's parent company...so all of this meant my Grandma got a discount at Target.

Gimbels, Marshall Fields, and Target. The holy trifecta of Midwest retail.
