I just wanted to share my first pin trading experience in the parks! I wasn't sure what to expect and I only had three pins to trade, all of which I basically just wanted rid of (princess shoes, not my thing)...anything must be better I figured, but still, I didn't get my hopes too high.

I was absolutely thrilled though, of the three I got two keepers, and one more I am fond of but will likely trade in future. I couldn't believe it!
I got a lovely Patch from 101 dalmatians and some cute little otters from Nemo...so totally thrilled they weren't just weird scrappers I see on youtube all the time. The variety of pins was better than I expected on cast lanyards.

I thought it odd that most stores sold the same pins however, with no Bambi (or none of Bambi himself, or Zootopia, fox and hound...robin hood...they told me these are often not sold after a certain time because the popularity of the movie decreases? Anyone else heard this? Even Coco they said would soon phase out. I hope that's not the case!

I also bought lots of Lady and Tramp and Thumper :) I hope this means trading is improving and the variety becoming more broad now in the parks!

Congrats finding two keepers during your trading excursion. I've only traded twice in person at WDW and both times was just trading traders for other traders. I have very specific wants so it is hard to find keepers. I also do not get to a park very often. I rely on trading/buying here for most of my pins.

P.S. I really like the Thumper with the flower pin....too cute

thank you! <3
I had to trade a few times for the otters but I got there eventually. Mostly I'm just looking for disney dogs but a cute disney animal will do me well!
Wish they had a wider choice of rack pins though! I don't think I'll have a chance to go to Disney again for at least a year, and there aren't many places to trade in the UK

We were there this week and there were very few new pins(since last October). The only LE's were from a run event so didn't interest me. Pueblo trading post is the best location, but this is only open on weekends and as the parks are that busier, we avoid the weekends. Unfortunately there is a lot of repetition in the shops, although you will sometimes run into a pin you haven't seen elsewhere, so check every shop and the carts!

Cast members lanyards are often full of scrappers, but a few CM's are 'Pin aware' and will not trade with scrappers, so their lanyards can have some decent trades as you have found.

The biggest disappointment for me is they do not have many pins from the films set in France and no Hunchback ones!!

We still managed to spend a fortune though.

when were you there? I felt like every shop sold the same pins, give or take one or two different ones occasionally.

Paddy's day weekend. Yep, they all seemed the same. We discovered the trading place the one day, but the queue was crazy as it was release day, so I don't know if there were different pins in there

ah you were there a few days after me then. I didn't get a chance to see the trading place but I must've looked everywhere for pins - some people suggested Harringtons but they had the worst selection imo.

At one point a cast member did trade me a Mrs. Pots and later, another cast member was hesitant to take it back as it was from primark, so not technically a trader. They did take it when I explained that I got it from their park that day! Makes me wonder what else they would take!

Most troubling to me though was their admittance that newer films in the park are not given as much run time for pins/merch. Several cast members explained this to me when asked where some character pins might be found - I was under the impression you'd find more of animals in Adventure land, or more princesses in Fantasyland, for example, but they said I would, and I quote 'never find any Zootopia in disneyland paris'. What a bummer! Can I only expect the same stuff then, short of being there for a release date?

Thanks for the report! I'll be there for the first time later this year. I'll be with my sister and we only have one day in the parks so pin trading is not gong to be a high priority (kind of a "if we pass by a cast member with a lanyard or a trade area without a long line we can take a quick look" thing) but it's nice to see what it's like anyway.

I collect the refresh lanyard pins, so I'm hoping to nab a few extras of those at least.

np! Hope you have a great time :)

May I ask what a refresh lanyard pin is? :O

It's the DLP equivalent of Hidden Mickey pins. At each pin trading night, they release a cocktail that comes with a pin of a character. Each pin had a little name badge symbol somewhere on it (like how Hidden Mickeys have the Mickey head somewhere on it). The pins originally can only be gotten at the event, but a few months after the event they start stocking them on cast member lanyards in the parks (hence the term lanyard refresh).

The Patch and Peg pins from your photos are actually two of them! :)

ha! I had no idea :D Thanks for sharing x So many little factoids about pins, I still got a lot to learn

Those Bambi pins were from last years anniversary release. They were first released at D23 and the extras were sold at the parks.

The Bambi pins are very nice! :)
Are they only available in Disneyland Paris?
thank you! I didn't get them in the parks, I bought them online from an Ebay seller (a good one :D) the 75th anniversary ones are my grails, I just adore them. I didn't find any Bambi in the parks apart from the Thumper one, but I did search high and low! Bambi seems to go up and down in popularity.

I agree that the pin selection isn't much at the moment, LE pins sell out the same day and for a year or over a year the OE pins disapear after a while. They used to be on the racks for a long time, sometimes a couple years and there was enough choice but now there isn't :(
