Heyo! So I was looking over one of my boards and notices I have a small set (please note, it's not a COLLECTION) of Asian-inspired pins. Yes, yes, some Mushu has snuck in, but for the most part, they're all working within a certain aesthetic. I've always loved this style, so I took a casual look through pinpics and there are some cool pins!

But getting those search terms just right is tricky, so I figured I'd see what are some of you guys' favorite pins that feature Chinese or Japanese styles or themes! :3

Some themes to consider are:
Zodiac / Lunar New Year
Koi fish / Koi streamers (Koinobori)
Japanese Archways (Torii)
Calligraphy
Kimono
Asian food (like sushi!)
Chinese coins
Dragon / Lion Parades (Dance)
Japanese Drums (Taiko)
Lucky Cats (Maneki-neko)
Good Fortune Charms (Omamori)
Fortune Cookies (I know, I know, they originated in USA)

I'm sure there are plenty others, but that's what I've got so far. :) Looking forward to seeing what you guys spot! :D

Dunno if this is what you’re looking for, but I really like this Minnie:

I have a few favorite pins from Japan, but they’re not Japanese themed.

I love Lucky Cats! Wish they’d do a set of Disney cats in Lucky Cat form.

I was collecting Zodiac / Lunar New Year for a bit. That's about it from this list for me.

Which set were you going for? I completed the mystery set a bit ago and it's definitely the focus point of the board. Hahah!

I have quite a few Chinese New Year pins and love Tanabata pins from Japan.

A really interesting set is the Chinese surnames (the calligraphy ones on the page here: http://pinpics.com/search.php?keyw=chinese+surname). They're no longer sold in Hong Kong but still available in Shanghai. 20 surnames and 10 Disney characters means that there's a total of 200 pins in this set. The surname is removable though so you technically can mix and match.

I'm not a big fan of the zodiac pins or Chinese New Year pins with simplified Chinese or English on them.

I really liked the Chinese New Year set that fit together to form a circle. I was
thinking about getting it, but...I don't collect that. :)

The set looks sooooo cool together. :) it basically satisfies my desire for a Chinese Zodiac set. XD I didn't like the wdi one.

I had no idea there were so many! Now I'm curious which surnames I picked up while I was there. I got a Chip, Dale, and Stitch and will have to compare them with the pinpics.

I really like the characters in the traditional attire, like the tang suits. That's why I can't wait to go to DLR for Lunar New Year since Mickey and Minnie meet in those outfits.

And I really like the drummers, since I am/used to be one. So that understandably is one of my favorite shows at Epcot and the Mulan float with the drummers was one of my favorite moments on my trip.

Merlin!! Now I have another collection that I want to start!

I was doing the LEs WDW was putting out each year. Pinpics #52535 is an example of one. I have most of them but there are one or two I didn't get and I think WDW stopped making them before year #12 so will never be a complete set. I'll probably trade them off at some point.

The zodiac set is the first Disney set I completed.

The Chicken Little is one of the first pins I traded for here on DFP.

I'm not sure where I got Figment from.

And the koi is a set of Hard Rock pins that I've been working on for a few years.

I have more, but it would take me a while to find them in these boxes.

Btw, Merlin, there is a school of thought that fortune cookies were actually started in Japan, then brought over to San Fanscisco with immigrants. Read it somewhere in the past week. Don't know if it's true, but I found it interesting.

Oh my golly that Chicken Little is epic (words I never thought I'd type....)

And I've heard that about the fortune cookies, and I tend to agree with it personally. :)

I LOVE the Chicken Little pin.

Being half Japanese, I'm happy to take credit for something so awesome (on behalf of my half culture, of course).

In addition to just collecting the characters and themes that I like that just happen to be pins made in those parks...

I collect the characters in kimono or around sakura. A lot of them come in under the name matsuri (like hina matsuri, or girl's festival), but just searching "Japan" gets most of them, too. Sometimes I just search Tokyo or TDS/TDL.

I also collect the TDS Game Prize Pins, but they're not usually Asian in theme, so that's probably not of interest. :)

TBH, though, my favorite pins are just pins that they do of my favorite characters or themes. Japan has some amazing small Halloween pins.

I bought these when I visited Tokyo Disneyland back in 2007. This is currently my favorite set because I love the detail and variety of colors, and the fact that I could only get these in Tokyo. I wish there were more pins of characters other than Fab 5 who wear Asian-esque outfits. It's nice to see characters wear something different for a change.
