WDW August Pin Event - Animation Celebration
Ok. 1) who will adopt me for this event cause I feel like a lost puppy dog just in the conversation much less at the event
2) thank goodness Moana is Animation Studios
3) how much do these boxes run? Same price as like the puzzle pieces for the aristocats and such? I need to know how many organs to sell off prior to the event in case it’s something I collect (like Incredibles!!!)
4) if you see two people that look lost at the event it’s probably me and my mom, stop and talk we love making new friends and unless you have a blinking banner above your head with your forum name I will be clueless that it’s some of my newly made pin friends!

The closer this gets the more nervous I get! Is that a reasonable way to feel?

Sincerely,
The pin event first-timer

Well if you come across me, I’m always super friendly. I’m one of those people who talks to whoever happens to be next to me. :) Also, I’m told I’m loud, so you might hear me before you see me. ;)

Look for me also. Like @slbrabham my first event was the Pixar event in 2016. My husband and daughter will also be there.

I still have yet to get a wooden name tag, but I am sure we will find each other. I will have a table at the pinpics trading event Thursday night, so might be easier to find each

It will be a fun experience. My first year that I attended an event (Pixar Party), I went by myself. This was before I was active in this forum and I didn't know anyone. It was a good experience.

Pretty much everyone I talked to or traded with was nice. I only made a few trades, but I made a few pin friends there. We traded at different times during the year. Some people told me no and I told others no when working on a trade. It was all good. I did make a few nice traders and completed some mystery collections.

I enjoyed looking at the collections. And people's brag or show lanyards. It's fun so have fun.
My first experience was pixar in 2016 also. Except for my daughter being with me, you pretty much have described my first experience to a tee. Looking forward to meeting you in person at the event. :)

Pinpics event?! Is this after the WDW stuff?

Oh it didn’t work :( however I don’t understand how that game works lol will it be regular trading as well?

Yes, I am not a fan of the game. But they have regular trading Thursday, Friday and I believe Saturday. But since we will be running around the parks on Friday and Saturday we will only be at the evening trading on Thursday. 6-7 pm early entry, 7-11 pm free entry. They offer a new thing called hotart trading... For cute LE 200 pins. Should be fun. :)

It's at the swan hotel which is walking distance from epcot. Or you can take a boat from Hollywood studios main entrance. The event will validate parking... I am pretty sure... So you could drive over too.

Ok! Maybe I’ll have to drag my mom over there! Sounds like lots of fun!!! Thanks for the information!!!!

I have to locate those name tags. I put them in a bag in my room and then threw them in a dark corner to forget until August. And here we are...

Anyone want to be pin table buddies Thursday or Friday? Will can't come til Friday night and its always nice to have someone to trade off roaming & sitting with (so books are not unattended).

  • Due to space limitations in World ShowPlace, each attendee may bring ONE trading bag up to 24" x 15" x 18" (61 x 38 x 46 cm) in size into the venue.
  • To keep a fair trading environment for all ticketed Event Guests, we will be implementing space limits in the Pin Trading Area. Guests may occupy the space directly in front of their chair and the chair across from them. Please be courteous to other Event Guests wanting to trade at the tables by adhering to these space limits.
  • This year, we will provide a tent card in your registration packet with your name on it. If you need to leave the trading table, your tent card must be placed on your space so we know who those pins belong to. By choosing to leave a trading table, you are assuming all risk as we cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen pins or personal items.
  • Please note these space restrictions and plan accordingly when deciding what pins to bring with you. Aisles between tables must be kept clear so as not to create tripping hazards or other safety concerns. Remember that only one trading bag is allowed per Guest in the venue.

Thoughts???

I wonder if/how they are going to enforce that limit? and I think the space in front of 1 chair is tiny, if they pack the chairs in there like they have in the past.

Though it would be nice to actually be able to go back there and find a space to sit at later in the day.

Interesting. They still kept the size at the luggage size, and we've been at that limit for years now. But the space restriction is new.

The language is very confusing, because they've always called a piece of luggage that can hold like, 6 trading bags... a "single trading bag". So it's hard to ascertain whether or not they mean literally one little bag or not. It's like..."you can have this little space, but your bag can be as big as a piece of rolling luggage". Whaaa?

If they try and enforce a literal single bag, they're going to have a lot of pissed off traders. Also, was this in the rules before we signed up? Or was this a last minute update? Because that's a crappy thing to pull on people after they've paid for the event and purchased plane tickets and hotel rooms, if it was added last minute.

Personally, this would be a disaster for me. I attend the event to trade with people who have a lot of pins to pick from...many of them flying in from areas I can't get to often. If they enforce smaller amounts, then the pins I want from them might be left at home. There wouldn't really be a reason for me to attend the event if I can't trade enough to make it worth it.

Final thought-if I was going to dabble in conspiracy theories, I would speculate that this would be a good way to sow discord and weaken the event so they can discontinue it in a year or two. They would either tank the attendance from the mass exodus of people that would feel that a single bag wouldn't be enough to trade with, or shut it down and use all the complaints they would receive as a reason.

No idea if that thought has any merit...just thought it would be a very sneaky move, if true. :)

I don't think they're trying to tank the event... The pin team that are at the PTN events always talk about how excited they are about being on the team, all the new ideas they have, and how much they want to revitalize trading.

I think the size limit is a bit of a wink and elbow nudge. They have never enforced a one bag rule, but I think they will try to discourage people taking up 8 tables worth of pin binders.

I guess I read the "one" trading bag as being one piece of luggage containing your traders (however you decide to store (ie, break them up into multiple binders/bags) your traders inside the piece of luggage is up to you.) Not everyone has their pins in a trading bag... so in this case the trading bag is the piece of luggage.

Must be I am oblivious, but I also have never been given the impression Disney is trying to stop pin events/pin trading. They put out a lot of pins for that to be the case.

Its the rule banning these items that I wonder about:
dancing brooms, mine trains, golf clubs, fishing rods, coat racks
What?!?!
I don't even know what a dancing broom is...

I really must be a newbie... I think "why would I need those items?" My naïveté must be showing... If I were a better trader I would know exactly how to take advantage of these items during a pin trading event. Must work on my trading skills so I may master all the tricks of pin trading where a mine train will become a KEY tool to completing the best trades.
:)

Hasn't the "one bag" (small luggage size) been in place for a while? But never really seemed to be enforced.....

Compared to the # of releases of the ‘peak’ years. The amount released now is prob 10-20% of ‘yesteryear’

Personally I think it won’t change much but gives them backbone to enforce- since people may take the same space just put 4-6 peoples tags on them..

I think they're trying to be funny. ;P Dancing brooms is a goof on Fantasia, Mine trade Snow White, and the others are Goofy How To scenes ;P
