Just thinking about how our one collection that we started out with has developed into four main collections. The main collections are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Springs and Trains. Now even in those four main collections there are multiple smaller collections. If this keeps up my wife will sign me up of DPA (Disney Pin Anonymous). Just thought it would be fun to find out what other member’s main collections are and how many different ones they have.

It’s far easier to say what we don’t collect than what we do.. after 18 years we’ve branched out pretty far..

We don’t do villains (except Tic Toc) princesses (except Tiana)

Otherwise we pretty much have ‘collection quantity’ (aka 12+ pins) of every thing else it seems and it all eventually blends together like Tomorrowland/space/Monorails/transportation/trains/Main Street etc..

I start a collection then go full steam until I get most/all of it, then get bored and start a new one. Thusly, I collect the following:

Main collections - Lion King, Robin Hood, Inside Out, Paris lanyard refresh, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun, Judy Hopps, Sword in the Stone transformations

Secondary collections - Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Capricorn/Aquarius, Daisy by herself (no Donald, Minnie, etc.), Michael (Tiki Room parrot), Jake (Rescuers Down Under), Rita, playing card aces, waffles, stegosauruses, Salacious Crumb, Hawkeye, Brave Little Toaster, That's So Raven, runDisney pins from races I've done

I also collect PTDs from several movies that aren't listed above (I like the movie but don't feel the need to collect everything from it, and PTDs are a nice cohesive subcollection) - Bolt, WALL-E, Great Mouse Detective, and Black Cauldron

On top of everything I collect for myself, I also collect Nick Wilde for my "Disney wife" friend and Mulan dressed as Ping for my best friend.

Oh man. Asking what we collect is asking for a lot! So for me let’s see if I can get it all.

First tier:
Aurora, Maleficent, Hades, Ariel with her tail, Donald Duck (with the occasional Daisy), Characters as Maleficent

Second tier:
Anna and Elsa, Tiana, Facilier, Frollo, Stitch (back burnered), Mickey and Minnie in general, Haunted Mansion, Cinderella in the blue dress, Tangled

Third tier:
Star Wars villains, SW in general, Snow White, Halloween pins, Chernabog, Disney dogs (with a few cats).

Plus whatever else gets my motor going. Tiers are more by amount of pins though the seriousness of the collection also plays. Like A&E, not a lot of good stuff for them that I don’t already have but Facilier and Frollo just don’t have that many pins in general (the former more than the latter).

Another good question. I think the easy awnser is, what ever looks nice or catchy on the eye. Than from there our family members all have a few movies or characters that they collect. We also just like pins that we get on a trip and will always have a memory with them. This way of doing it means we do not trade that much. We are mostly collectors.
Our collection is made up of NBC for mom and dad. Bababytrader has mostly Cars stuff. Zev likes Americana stuff and Oswald. Our new baby has a few Minnie pins but has not got to much in to them yet. Our other stuff is mix matched pins from over the past 8 years. We also have Disney art and other memorabilia in our Disney collection.

My collection is small and more of a jumble of things I like however, I have 3 'mains' that I'm looking for as I've only recently back into collecting and trading: Winnie the pooh (all characters), stitch and the lion king.

Also I love buying the mystery sets and I'm currently working on the HKDL popcorn and pretzel set and hoping to start the WDW/DLR backpack set soon :)

Splash Mountain, Goofy Sky School/Barnstormer,Toy Story(buzz/Woody specific)

then generally attraction pins that have moving elements from both WDW and Disneyland (emphasis on Thunder, space and obviously splash mtns)

Another person here with a bunch of collections!

Main collections: Aristocats/Marie, Tinker Bell, Daisy Duck, It's A Small World, Ratatouille
Side collections: Ariel, Snow White, Haunted Mansion, Piglet, Figment
Casual/small collections: Donald, misc parks stuff I like, Doorways To Disney, Disney cats, Ursula
Want to start collecting: Love Letters series, Inside Out, Jessica Rabbit

We have a ton of collections as well...

My main collections are: Up, Brother Bear, Emperor's New Groove - Mainly Kronk, Charlotte (from PATF), Haunted Mansion (mainly Fab 5 on/as the ride, Hatbox and Hitchhiking Ghosts)
I also collect: Halloween pins, Burrito (3 Caballeros), hidden mickey sets, and any pin that I fall in love with or that has special memories/meaning for me

Hubs collects Jungle Cruise, Monsters Inc./University, Phineas and Ferb, Star Wars, Oswald and Classic Mickey
My oldest collects Chip and Dale and Marvel
#2 collects Tsum Tsums, Muppets and Stitch
#3 collects Oswald, Stitch, Star Wars and Baymax
#4 collects Nightmare Before Christmas and Minnie Mouse

The only serious collector is me but I gather for the others when I can. ;)

Hubbie collects Star Wars
Oldest son collects trains/railroad/monorail pins
Youngest son a variety but mainly Jack Skellington and Nemo
Me: Cheshire Cat by himself, Cheshire with Alice, Cheshire with Queen of Hearts, Cheshire with all AIW folks, Stitch dressed as other characters

Collections I keep thinking about collecting: Tigers (specifically Raja and Raja with Jasmine), Headless Horseman, Halloween, Disney cats (especially Marie - I do have a few pins of her)

"Completist" Collections: Black Cauldron, Oswald
Sizable Collections that I'm picky about for new additions: Hercules, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Mickey, Disneyland Resort
Small Collections: Mr. Toad, Cats (especially Figaro, Aristocats, Lucifer), Star Wars
Mini Collections: Pinocchio, Robin Hood, Great Mouse Detective, Rescuers, Fox and the Hound, Dumbo, Snow White, Sword in the Stone
also: Random pins I like or for special memories :tigger:

So fun reading everyone's responses! I like the tiered approach so here is mine:

1st: Tinker Bell movie and book characters (Pixie Hollow), Tinker Bell, Sofia the First, Elena of Avalor, Aurora (just starting this one!)
2nd: Clarice (Chip & Dale), Tiger Lily, Ariel's sisters, Ariel (mostly in pink dress), Fantasia (Pastoral Symphony and Nutcracker Suite), Alice with flowers
3rd: Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Peter Pan mermaids, Esmeralda, Cinderella

Want to start: Disgust (Inside Out), Charlotte (Princess & the Frog), Sour Bill (Wreck it Ralph), Good Fairies (Sleeping Beauty), Blue Fairy (Pinocchio), Rainbow Unicorn (Inside out), Mary Poppins' Carousel horse

Who knows if all my wants to start will ever actually start, but it is fun to have new ideas :D

Priority collection: Wendy from Peter Pan (50 pins+)

Big collections: Alice (30+), Mulan (20+), Elsa (15+)

Mini collections: Jim Hawkins (3), Gogo from BH6 (2). Want to also start Tadashi but there's not many pins of him to really start a collection, haha.

Want to start: Disgust (Inside Out), Charlotte (Princess & the Frog), Sour Bill (Wreck it Ralph), Good Fairies (Sleeping Beauty), Blue Fairy (Pinocchio), Rainbow Unicorn (Inside out), Mary Poppins' Carousel horse

Sour Bill and Rainbow Unicorn might be two good ones to start out with if you want to go for completion. Both only have a few pins. As far as Inside Out characters, Disgust should be medium difficulty - the insanely hard to find/expensive Inside Out pins (Japan framed set, D23 Le15 framed set, Beloved Tales, DSF Bing Bong surprise) don't include her.

There are bunches of Flora/Fauna/Merryweather pins, so if you're just looking for something casual they might be a good choice.

It makes me happy that I could have all the Disgust pins without too much difficulty, and sad that she isn't more popular :/
Rainbow Unicorn is too cute, I just need to bite the bullet and get one of her pins and then I'll be compelled to get all the others.

I might as well just change my collection focus to include all the Disney fairies, except maybe Fairy godmother, because she doesn't have (visible?) wings.

My pin collection is as fallows...

Main: Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Mickey Mouse (with a few of his friends), all pins for holidays and events I attend in the Parks, and all of Pixar (focusing mainly of Ratatouille, Up, and Wall-e with a descent amount of Toy Story.
Side: Attractions (specific to Disneyland), Jungle Book, The Beauty and the Beast,
Small/Casual: Lion King, Lilo and Stitch, Dumbo and Edna Mode.
New: The Princess and the frog and Pirates of the Caribbean (specifically the auction scene and Mark Davis concept art).

Anything else I have is to celebrate a specific trip, represent a memory, or is a pin I don't collect but just think is awesome ( these are far and few between).

I collect many different collections but I am not trying be a completionist by any means so I select pins I like and that aren't too repetitive.

Primary Collections
1.) Beauty and the Beast
2.). Aladdin
3.) Princess and the Frog
With these three collections I try to collect some pins of all the characters from the movie. I especially love the villains Jafar and Dr. Facilier. They make up a significant part of each collection.
4.) The Little Mermaid
5.) Brave
With the above two collections, I primarily collect the main characters. For example, I don't really collect Ursula from TLM. Most of my TLM pins are Ariel and Eric. I'm trying to find at least one pin with the other characters. Then, I feel that I can stop looking for them. With Brave, I love collecting Merida and Queen Elinor.

Smaller Side Collections
1.) Sword in the Stone
2.) Hercules
3.) Robin Hood

I Guess I Do Collect this Collections
1.). Characters at American Monuments
2.) School Related pins
3.) It's a Small World - not the clock face

I love mystery sets and try to complete them. I like pins from rides and events at WDW that hold memories.

I look for Chip and Dale pins and Nightmare Before Christmas pins for my nephew. I look for Tink for my niece and Rapunzel for my sister and niece.

Thanks for all the responses; it is nice to know that we are all about the same in a sense. Start collecting one them then that special pin comes into your possession, the next thing you know you are heading down an additional collecting path with a side collection. I also find the hunt of those special pins are a big part of the collecting bug also. Many of us collect for other family members, myself included. Our granddaughter collects Cinderella mainly, grandson's collection is a mixture (whatever strikes him) and our little cousin collects princesses.

My main collections are Donald Duck/Three Caballeros, Mickey Mouse, Snow White, WDW, Walt Disney, and the princesses. I've got small collections of chip and dale, Americana pins, and misc pins I find cute.

I collect...a few things... I started out as a parks/attractions/resorts collector. Before there was even official pin trading. Those are still my favorites, even though most people are movie/character collectors. But I collect ALL of the park stuff for Disneyland and WDW. I haven't really done the other parks because I hadn't been to them. But I've been to HKDL and I'm going to Tokyo, so I am definitely going to be expanding into Tokyo park pins because...well, they have already trickled in. I love the Japanese pins because they do a lot with less popular stuff. However, if I pick favorites.

Main: Animal Kingdom, Figment, Frozen, Wilderness Lodge, Dixie Landings, 4th of July, Resort Holiday series and Humphrey the Bear (but most of his pins are Wilderness Lodge pins anyway). These are the ones I'm actively trying to be "completist" with (or in the case of the two hotels only missing 1 pin from each to be completist.). Oh, and hope against hope...Beloved Tales. Once upon a time, before they exploded I only needed 7. Now I need more than 7, but I hope that someday at least the more random ones (like Planes, Cars 2, Monsters U) I'll be able to check off.

2nd tier: Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Pluto, Rafiki, Adventureland / Tiki (including Orange Bird), Aulani, Port Orleans, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Epcot more generally (including all the festivals). These, I try to get them whenever I can, but I know I am missing so many that I'll never be complete. More hope for the hotels, but not the movies.

3rd tier: Hidden Mickeys, Walt Disney, general Christmas, Halloween and other holidays.

I recently added Gelatoni and the HKDL / Shanghai Easter Eggs to my collections, but I don't know where they will slot in. Depends on how many I'm actually able to get.

Things that just happened: In general, I don't collect Pixar but I have a Sadness collection, Guido & Luigi, and some Wall-E and Up. Also obscure characters (so this year's Event mystery set is right up my alley) and small characters. Like I've got a few Roquefort pins and the mice from Cinderella.

My largest collection is Buzz, Woody and LGM. However my main collection is Moana. I have a small Incredibles collection that is slowly growing. I am complete with the Windows of Evil (for now???). I have a small Flora collection. I have the complete set of the birthstone princess cameos (not sure what prompted this collection since I don’t collect any of the girls in that set lol). I also have a small collection of chickens which is one of my favorites and would like it to grow but there aren’t a lot of chicken pins. And also a small but growing collection of Mickey and Minnie in love (wedding ish themed). And then I have a board of completely random pins that I collect. Some include mickey shaking hands with the different military, fireman and police; ketchup vinylmation (looking for mustard); watermelon pins; tractor and trailer (my dad is a truck driver); the magic band HM set; a telephone booth HM and fez hat pin (my husband loves dr who); hall of the presidents; and a few other random things.

Collecting and trading pins is like my drug of choice
