Also not looking to step on anyone's toes, but would like to offer up the following. A few years ago, there was another pin database project that sort of disappeared due to lack of support (Pinventory, the new data base update, The Pinventory DB is ready to Beta test.). The reality is that the project never died, it just slowed a bit due to only being designed, programmed and loaded by one individual that also has a family and a full-time job, not to mention a pin hobby. Unfortunately, a site of this magnitude and daily growth requires a village. The site has most of the main components needed to catalog and trade your pins as well as a wealth of additional features that basically require the front end to be added around them.

What I have to offer:
1. Software engineer with over 25 years experience. Specialties included database and backend systems design.
2. Web Development. This is not my specialty, so it takes me longer to achieve results (could use help here).
3. Thousands of pages of archived Disney information on pins readily available.
4. 10,000+ self taken images (front and back) and/or Disney pin images not yet loaded.
5. Established LLC already in place.
6. Avid pin collector (10+ years) dedicated to the hobby and has no plans on quitting.

What the site has to offer (some features close to turning on):
1. Just over 10,000 pins currently loaded, 8,000 active and over 2,000 pending and waiting for content review.
2. Ability to catalog regular, PP, AP, and scrapper/counterfeit with pictures and viewable from one area.
3. Ability to view current releases, upcoming releases and latest additions to the database.
4. Supports multiple pin origins (multiple SKUs and release dates coming soon) without having to put them in the comments or description.
5. Supports multiple movie associations (currently single, just requires interface adjustment).
6. Supports holiday association.
7. Trade Assist.
8. Price tracking (requires interface setup).
9. Multiple images. Currently supports two as the initial intent was for front and back images only, but can be expanded easily.
10. Source tracking.
11. Personal and community stats that won't go stale over time.
12. Keyword searching on all available fields.
13. Ability to have pin groups (In database design, requires interface, would love input).
14. https
15. One click inventory updates
16. Other features available to mods/admins only

To have a good and scalable system, it requires a solid and properly designed backend as well as a well written frontend. What I am proposing is a collaboration between all of the things that are currently out there and pulling all those involved together to move forward. I am not stuck on any particular site, just looking for a good solution and the ability to move forward quickly. If I can accomplish all that I have by myself part-time, imagine what can be done getting the community involved.

I have been a member of DPF for many years, although I wish to remain anonymous temporarily for reasons I will release later. For those of you who do know who I am, please respect my wishes to remain anonymous for the time being. If anyone is interested in seeing the site, please PM me and I will grant you access as it not publicly available at the moment. If you were a beta tester a couple of years ago, your account is still active and you should be able to access the site now. If you can't and you'd like to, let me know and I can get it straightened out. I look forward to the community coming together so collecting and trading can get back to the fun it used to be.

I am pretty computer illiterate, but am able to do grunt work such as entering in the pins that I have. I am neurotically OCD, not an official diagnosis, more like a personality type. Anyway, I can enter pins, take pictures of pins, etc. Back when PP used to be set up differently, I was able to build my own Owns List, Wants List and Trade List using their pictures, numbers and wants/needs. It is a now a bit more work, but as I started it in the early days, now it is just a matter of keeping it up. I tried to paste an example below, but it didn't work. If anyone is going to be at the pin week or in Disney next week I can show them in person. As mentioned before I have a tan vest hanging from the back of my ECV with my grails visible and wear a dark green hat with some of my favorite pins. Basically pretty shy in person. I am retired so have the time to enter data if needed. Take care, Penny aka Chaos Cent.

Wondering if having a 'private collection' option will be available (so traders and wants are public, but you may track your collection privately)?

That feature already exists. Sorry I didn't put it on the list. I will also be adding the ability to add exceptions. If you can think of anything else, feel free to ask as it may already be there as well.

Is there, or will there ever be, costs associated with the website in any way? Are you the sole proprietor/owner/interest in the LLC? Are you open to having more than one owning/controlling party?

The intention is to never have any costs involved with the site. I have personally funded it for the last 4 plus years and would be happy to continue. The only way I see it changing is if it is required to move off of shared hosting as then the costs skyrocket. All my work performed is always free and I have dedicated quite a lot of time in the last 4 years to developing and loading. If people would like to make donations, I would prefer they be pins to be used as giveaways.

Are you the sole proprietor/owner/interest in the LLC?
It did not start out that way, but currently I am the sole proprietor. Others involved no longer collect and lost interest.

Are you open to having more than one owning/controlling party?
Yes, but you must be committed and willing to take a vested interest.

So are we going to have two new databases?

I think we're up to 5. Pinpics, PintradingDB, smallcandle's app, Pinventory and what I'm working on. Back when Ryan and Ethan were working on their sites at the same time, I posted that Ryan shouldn't worry about what anyone else does because everyone has different ideas about what is necessary and important, and that the community and time would determine what the best option would be. So work hard on creating the best site you can, and then let the marketplace sort it out. The important point was working to provide an alternative to Pinpics. The same holds true now.

From my POV, I am not worried too much about duplication of resources. When I got into my project, I decided I would be happy with it even if my Dad and I are the only ones who ever use it. It is for all types of Disney collectibles, not just pins, so if there is a better "Pin site" that's okay with me. But at the same time, maybe mine will have value that the other options can't provide. I am still worried about the technical maintenance, so a less trafficked site, is probably better for me, lol. But at the same time, I am happy with the features I've implemented and while some of them look like they are on the Pinventory option, there are more options I am planning and if they aren't present I might find it a little disappointing and frustrating. I'm guessing the same holds true for Pinventory and smallcandles, and maybe even Ryan and Li. When you have an idea, you want to see the whole of it, not just bits of it.

Obviously, there are are big concerns with a website as vital to the community only having one administrator / technical person. If the site goes down, everybody is screwed. But I would caution about too much community involvement (more for back end organizational stuff - not for the actual entering of data). Herding cats is not a good outcome either, so sometimes a few people with a really strong vision can keep the ship pointed the right direction and sailing smoothly. Consistent, and complete data entry is a continuing issue for both Pinpics and PintradingDB, so it's not only a matter of having a functional database (programming skills) but a clear set of rules for how data should be added, and what data is important (someone with a background in library and information science is probably useful here). For example, PintradingDB has a limited list of themes, and isn't really setup currently to have everything. I think Li even said it would be impossible to add all the possible themes. It sounds like Pinventory is set up for an expanded set of themes (so all movies, holidays). I set up mine to be able to tag everything and anything. Movies, characters, places, people, holidays, any subject you can think of (sports, animals, waffles, anything), and when you visit the page for that "whatever" all items tagged with that, will display and can be filtered.

I've got to get started on dinner, but the point is, I'm totally okay with all these options in development. We all are likely approaching this from different POV, and so we will all end up with certain strengths. The community will decide how valuable each is, or if there is value in all of them.

I think it's great that there is all this energy around getting a new site(s) and am excited to see where it goes. The only thing I'll point out is that, for a site to be successful, it not only has to have a lot of (ideally all) pins in it, but also a lot of users. Pinpics is not only valuable to me as a reference site, but, even more so, as somewhere that I can go to trade (and see the interest level of other traders, etc). And trading only works if lots of people are using it. Off hand it seems like a single site is more likely to get the volume needed than multiple sites. But I guess time will tell.

As I am not on Facebook I was wondering if there was an update because of right now the site is still not working? Thank you. Just arrived at Disney so I am going out to eat rather since I van't work on pins. Thank you.

Pinpics is working for me as of this moment. I have logged on, I've looked at my lists, I can see some new pins in fact have been added to "what's new" and I'm not having any issues right now
I was on about an hour ago and was able to log on but as soon as I did a search, it logged me off. I'm not sure I'm buying the whole server story as there are now changes present on the site that I don't believe were there two weeks ago. They seem to have added stuff back in the stats from the old site.

Interesting. Some people said things had been removed over time. Would be cool to see what now might be returned back as it was. Thanks for the update.

From what I saw quickly before giving up, they added back the user that submitted the info and how many people own the pin. Not sure if there was anything else.

Still not working at 100% for me... Maybe 20%... still getting partial page loading and pictures covered by black rectangles. Had to reload the page about 6 times after I logged in and did a few clicks and back to the white error page.

Same here. Everything you're seeing minus the black triangles. Most likely browser specific or the image isn't loading fully.

I can't access my pins but I can periodically access the site itself. Have there been any FB updates? Thanx everyone, just how I imagined by Disney vacation, sitting in the Boardwalk, trying to update my pins> :)

I mean there's nothing wrong with collaboration, in fact it leads to innovation. I believe if you can combine someone with solid databasing skills and where pintradingdb is heading and another couple people sprinkled in to be the every man and give critiques, there could be the chance to have a really solid site. But then again, if you worked on the code from scratch, I can understand not wanting to give away your hard work. I can't stand coding myself, so if I spent 4 years doing it, you know I loved whatever I'm working toward. I think people who have the patience to do these things are amazing.
