Hi there,
I just started collecting/trading pins this last year. I never knew this whole experience existed until my husband and I went on a family trip to Disney this last July. I hadn't been to Disney in 18 years. So I was completely clueless to pin trading. I fell in love our last two days there.

Now that I've been back home for a while and just looking through pins and such. I'm looking for an explanation as to what these WDI pins are. I collect NBC and Alice pins and I actually have a WDI Sally pin from a pin opp I entered into on Instagram and the package says it's 18.99 retail (I THINK, I don't have it right in front of me) but I checked online and it's being sold for anywhere from 400-600 dollars.

So all in all, my question would be Why they're so expensive, and how do people get them outside of just buying them for hundreds of dollars and/or pin opps.

WDI stands for Walt Disney Imagineering. They tend to be very low edition sizes, very distinctive, and are only available to cast members at Mickey’s of Glendale. They are so expensive because most wind up with re-sellers, and the people who are willing to trade are often seeking something very rare as well. Best way to get them is to know a cast member in California.

Ah, understood. Thanks for answering! Seems like a lot of the more rare stuff comes from California, like Pin Traders Delight, and WDI, etc. I wonder why.

Wow. I feel so dumb
That's so logical. Not sure why I even asked that question.

Don't feel dumb, we were all newbies, and have learned by asking questions.:stitch:

Keep in mind prices seen are subjective. Biggest newbie assumption is that it's true value, and over price their pin. Try to keep the hobby in perspective and have FUN, you'll enjoy it more.:p

Welcome to the crazy!:stitch:

This +infinity. Also, consider this: every time you post a question, realize that there must be other people who also are wondering the same thing but don't have the courage to ask. The best way to learn is by asking questions. We all were new once and we're more than happy to help; that's what it means to be part of a community. :)

I couldn't agree more with @dancecats reply above.
