Disney Store Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion - 2017
Old? Who's getting old? There's absolutely no such thing among us doll collectors! :) That's the beauty of it, they keep us young at heart.

Regarding the OFA LE dolls, I think at this point I am just really Frozened out...too many Frozen dolls such little display space. The only 2 I'm missing and wanting are the first 2, which of course are also the ones I have to sell a kidney to get. I'm not crazy about these sculpts but the fashions are so beautiful, that's why I'm torn. I'm not a deboxer so getting them to put on older dolls is not a possibility...I figure their edition size is so large that I can wait to make up my mind, or even get them on sale down the line.

I'm struggling with buying/not buying the OFA dolls for similar reasons. On the one hand, they'd keep me a completist on Frozen 17" dolls ... on the other, I'm fatigued too and contemplating selling some of my older Anna and Elsa dolls, ha. (I don't have room for all the dolls I have, and my Alice collection takes precedence.)

So, Lucy, if you have a Purple Rapunzel you'd be willing to trade, maybe we can work out a deal on a Snow Queen or a Coronation Anna! ;)

Ditto your thoughts, not your trade offer...lol

I have received the blast-off mail but there's tracking number which is weird. I checked the order page and no tracking number either. Does anyone encounter the same thing before? I contacted the guest service and be told that it may take 24-48 business hours before tracking number is available.

With this new Shop Disney page, I have noticed that the tracking number is missing from the website/online access and that the only tracking number I get is via the email that tells me a blast off has occurred. Really sucks :p

Thanks for the info. I assume they just upgraded their system and screwed it up...

It does suck. Before, when I wanted to check on the package and see where it was, I could log into the account and click on the tracking number. Now, I have to wait til I'm home and look for the email with that information.

Sent another mail to the guest service and they finally gave me the "missing" tracking number. Glad it's on the way~:mickey2:

1st Moana and The Prince are back up on Shop Disney :)
I would advise against getting them though, because dolls that pop up after they sold out are usually returns that (most likely) have defects.

I got my Elsa yesterday. Quickest shipping ever on one of those dolls. Sadly, she's a disappointment and this the first one I've ever bought that I wanted to return. The problem is I either ship it, or drive an hour to a Disney store.

I wasn't expecting this to the best ever, but I've always liked the heirloom dolls and thought they were well worth the price, despite many others complaining about them going down in quality. As a long time doll collector, I always thought they were fairly priced. You have to give in to the fact the company and name are going to be in the cost, but I still found the stock to be of a good quality and the packaging to justly add to the cost. I compared the dolls to other lines, not past heirloom dolls to determine if they were worth the cost. I have spent more and felt I got less for dolls. This doll, however, is the first I truly didn't believe was worth the price. It looks like a cheap play line doll from head to toe. At least in my opinion and I don't mean to discourage anyone who got her and likes her. I liked her stock photos, but my doll had the stones falling off. They are of a very poor dollar store craft isle quality with scratches on the back and not very reflective. The stitching is poor quality. Even the material she's made out of seems of a much lesser quality. I'm hoping I just got a dud and the rest aren't this bad.

I think this doesn't bode well for the upcoming Pocahontas and Mulan dolls. Neither are my favorite Disney characters as I didn't care for the movies when they were released, but I'd still like to see them do well. I'm not at all excited about future releases. I really do hope they turn things around, though.

I don’t think we should worry too much about Pocahontas and Mulan yet. The Snow White dolls turned out beautiful, and they were released pretty recently.

I thought the two best releases this year were the D23 and Saks Snow Whites, which were both the kind of exclusive dolls Disney puts extra care into. One was only available offline at the D23 convention, the other was a collaboration with a high-end department store. None of the general releases have wowed me, and this does raise flags for Pocahontas and Mulan. Surely they've been finalized by now.

Hopefully Disney will prove us wrong by outdoing themselves next year :) It might not look promising but one can hope!

I think Rags Snow White is just as beautiful as the other two mentioned Snows, even if she doesn't wear a fancy gown. :) She has a very sweet face in my opinion. :)

Oh yes, her face is lovely, as all the Snow Whites this year have been :) I guess my biggest gripe was with her hair, the curls fell straight down and lay flat against her head. Didn't look as movie accurate or voluminous as her other versions (at least, for me). But I appreciate that Disney wanted to try something different with her, and the outfit was a hit. That patchwork design!

I could never figure out looking at cartoon Snow how exactly her hairstyle was made. :)

I'm struggling to resist new dolls as I just don't have the space but I'm really tempted with this new Elsa especially after watching the short! Thanks for the honest review it's helping me not impulse buy! lol

Also strangely interested in LA purple Alice again haha I'm not sure why but I keep checking her on eBay. I really didn't care for the first Alice movie but thought the second was cute... but I really really like her doll.

Hey all! I haven’t been on here in FOREVER, but I recently got back into LE collecting, so here I am!

So I was browsing online yesterday, just looking at the new releases and kicking myself for not getting them, when I realized that the DS still had LE Elena, Elsa and Anna still up for sale!??! Do y’all think they are crappy editions bc they have been returned OR have they just not sold out yet!??? I really want to order them and not pay a scalper. (Why are the scalpers even trying when they are still up for grabs at the DS?)

The fact that they haven’t sold out yet shocks me as I remember the days right after the real ‘Frozen Fever’ when the dolls would sell out in minutes. I even tried for Winter Belle and couldn’t get through.....I guess that’s when I stepped away from collecting. I was mad at the whole situation.

Anyway, what do y’all think? Should I get them? I think all three are beautiful. Thanks for the help!!

Yeah, you're way out of date. Dolls haven't been selling as well. Anna and Elsa are a HUGE edition (7,000 or something) and the feedback on them has been mixed--lots of complaints about how they aren't up to par with previous releases, etc. Plus, some folks are just tired of Anna and Elsa dolls, since there have been so many. So they just have not sold out.

Same with Elena; she just hasn't sold out. She's gorgeous, but I think not everyone "knows" who she is (ie, if you don't watch Disney afternoon TV) so she simply hasn't sold out. No complaints about the dolls that I've heard.

If you really like them, you should get them. They *could* go on sale, but who knows when that would happen. And if you miss out, you'll have to pay more than retail (I doubt a lot more), but who wants to do that?

Good point! It kills me to think of paying more than I need to on these dolls. The DS told me that if they do go on sale within seven days of shipping then they will give me back the difference if I call them. So that’s nice.

Well, since they haven’t sold out, I will get them. And I’ll be happy about it. Ha! This doesn’t quite make up for the Winter Bell madness, but maybe makes it easier to come back to collecting. Do you Alice, or anyone else, know what happened with that release?

Yeah, that's a good point: If they do go on sale soon, you can get a partial refund or a credit or something! Disney threw in the towel a few weeks ago and put some of the lingering limited edition dolls (mostly the designer sets) go on sale (or allowed people to use the Friends & Family discount on them). It was quite surprising but indicates the extent to which LE merchandise has fallen lately.

Winter Belle, probably because she was Belle and gorgeous, sold quickly, like many dolls have. But overall this year, the frenzy seems to have died down--to the point we've reached now. The Snow White dolls did quite well but lasted through the morning, at least (and Prince made it to sale, ha). But I think people are just fatigued. Disney released, what, 17 LE 17" dolls in 2017, all told? It's getting expensive, there have been questions about quality (depending on the doll, etc), and I think a lot of people just dropped out after the frenzy left them exhausted, broke, and/or with bitter feelings about getting skunked on a doll and forced to pay stupid eBay prices if they really wanted it for their collection.

That said, if a really popular character is released, you can bet your boots the frenzy will kick in again. The solid rumors are that Pocahontas and Mulan will be released this year; if the editions are sized appropriately (ie, people have been asking for these characters for years, but the world probably doesn't need 7,000 of them), they'll do well enough. But man, drop an Ariel next year for HER anniversary, or a new Rapunzel for the TV series, and I bet you'll see the craze pick up again!

Good luck in your collecting!
