For those that collect the Tiki Mugs from Trader Sams and have been awaiting news about this year's Halloween mugs...Grog Grotto (WDW) has started selling them today.

No confirmed info on when Enchanted Tiki Bar (Disneyland) will begin selling theirs. The construction at neighboring Tangaroa Terrace has things a little unsettled. There are unconfirmed rumors that they might start sales on Thursday. There are others that claim they like to give 4 days notice, so it won't be Thursday. But DL peeps might want to keep theirs to the ground...I mean...Facebook and Instagram.

Here is the WDW version. No news on what color the DL version will be. Cost for WDW is $30+tax or $31.95. Drink is Grim Grinning Grog. Limit is 1 per person. No news yet on if they are limiting wristband distribution per day (last year, it was like 150 or 200 wristbands per day, can't remember).

Size comparison to the Hitchhiking Ghost Mugs from the previous 2 years.

I wonder how long these last. I might be going up on the 25th so maybe they’d still be around?

It's been my experience, they sold out fairly quickly.

How many do you want, 1 or 2?

Maybe some here could go pick them up for you?

Agreed, they sell out fast. @xdattax , you're going to WDW, right? I thought I saw it posted on FB that they are doing wristbands of 200-300 per day and there may be a max of 3000-5000 mugs

@hopemax can probably give you more information

The last couple of years DL has gotten about 10,000 mugs while WDW has only gotten 2500. That's the difference between the size of the Tiki community in SoCal vs. Florida. WDW chooses to do the daily 400 or so and so they can stick around for a week. Disneyland tends to just sell all day, which means they go in a couple of days. The Christmas Elephants DL had something like 16,000 of them, but they weren't too popular so those stayed available throughout the season (although some days they wouldn't have some because the bar ran out and were waiting for more from the warehouse.) This year, the rumor is that there are less mugs for DL 6000-8000. For WDW, Disney wised up on how fans were doing the counting (the shipping containers would say something like Box 49 out of 250. So if you knew the number per box, multiply to get the shipment total) so they Sharpied out the numbers so there really isn't a hard count for WDW yet.

But to sum up. If you are going Tue-Thur you are probably okay. But I don't think they will be around on the 25th.

People are going to line up at some ungodly hour on Monday, but last year you could go in the afternoon on release day and not have much of a line and still get mugs.

There is a reasonable chance we will have an extra WDW mug to trade for a DL mug. But I need to find out if my Dad goes tomorrow, or if our friend who is in SoCal can get the three mugs we need (she has SoCal friends too). I will post on Tuesday if I have a trader. If our friend gets the mugs we need, but we also have a trader we are looking for the Black HHG mug from 2 years ago.

Wow. Tiki mugs are serious business! Yes, I’d be going to WDW. Maybe I’ll get lucky, or maybe someone I know who’s up there would be willing to have a drink on me, but it’s so much more fun to drink the drink! That’s how i got the DL 60th Stein, i randomly found it in Casey’s corner when I went for snacks before Paint the Night.

If i could get one, it would be one. I messaged a friend who works up at WDW so we’ll see. Maybe I’ll put it on Facebook and someone in Orlando will hook it up.

There was a rumor yesterday that WDW was getting close to being sold out. But today's release was calm and tame, so I don't know. But this was day 7, and if they were doing 400 mugs a day that's 2800 and there shouldn't be that many more. Tomorrow seems a go, but it is definitely "play by ear" after that.

So what we know from today's madness. No overnights allowed, official line started at 6AM. My friend got their at 6:30 and the line was by Goofy's Kitchen. But the line ran from Trader Sams down the walkway in front of Adventure Tower (am I the only one who still calls it Sierra - that's where stayed when I was 9, lol), all the way around Adventure Tower down to the wedding area and gazebo, in front of Frontier Tower (Bonita for old-timers), and all the way around the restaurant area.

The number of cases printed on the box is 405. There are 16 mugs per case so = 6480 mugs. Unknown if they are receiving multiple shipments.

They are wristbanding people in groups of 200 per color. Wristbands are only to limit line cutters. Not a guarantee to get a mug. My friend was told she was #607.

Apparently, there are only 2 registers... *bangs head* so my friend is estimating 5 hr queue, and there were many, many people still behind.

One CM was warning it would sell out today, but we don't think the math supports that theory yet.

Price today is $30 + tax (no drink, no discounts). What is left tomorrow will be sold in the bar (let's see if that happens, if there are 1000 people lined up again) but those will have drinks so are $40+tax.

I arrived at 8, and almost went into shock at what I saw.

Shouldn't be surprised. Nature of the beast these days.

My friend reminded me that since guests didn't have to enter the park to purchase the mugs, there would be a longer line. Made sense.

Any-who, Congrats to who ever waited it out and got one!

However, they did have mugs until they ended sales at 8 (a pre-designated time, they didn't run out). You could have arrived between 4-8 and had a 90 minute or less wait and still gotten mugs.

I don't agree with the 2-per-person deal at Disneyland! Why are the WDW limited to one per person per day and then only a small number a day?

I checked on Friday and the line was cut off somewhere before 1:30-2. The CM told me people had lined up that day VERY early.
I didn't bother on Saturday because of other plans, but just randomly checked in on Sunday at 1:30 and got my wrist band with no line at all. Did the same on Monday.

No idea of the number for WDW. They allow a different number of wristbands every day (as they did in the past 2 years). They also have the numbers on the cases scribbled out.

I ended up with 2... so if anyone wants to trade me a DL version for a WDW version let me know!!
