WDW WDW: Fairy Tails annual pin trading event Aug 9-10, 2019
Interested but what’s the cost of this event usually? Is it like the same as the DSSH ones?

The hubs and I happened to be in park at Epcot last during this pin event and had no clue what was going on, it was actually how we got into it by talking to folks about it.

Funny thing is they all told us don’t do it, don’t get into it, it’s sooo expensive and addictive...lol we didn’t listen...

If I remember correctly, it was $150 and you get a $20 gift card, so really $130 in the end. They give you a welcome pin, a goodbye pin (historically a 4 pin set), and there's a "scavenger hunt" or similar that results in another pin set, usually about 4-6. So for your $130 you get 9-11 pins. And then you get 8 vouchers for the trading boards (4 per day) and can trade two pins per visit to the board for a total of 16 board pulls. Total luck of the draw regarding what's on the board. If they happen to refresh right before you get there, you'll likely find LEs, APs, and PPs. If not, it could be filled with junk that everyone else traded in. And, of course, there's the opportunity to trade with the hundreds of other pin collectors there.

It's definitely cheaper than the DSF event for locals and WDW passholders, especially when you factor in all of the pins that come with the event ticket! The big cost is for out of town people who also have to pay for airfare, hotel, and park admission (since it's inside of EPCOT, you have to buy a park ticket for the two days on top of the trade event ticket).

I’ll be doing D23 instead of Fairy Tails, but one day I want to go to the August WDW event because it’s really about the pins! Looking forward to the merch catalog, all the stories from everyone, pins you get from the boards, trading you do.....living vicariously through you all.

@watzshakinbacon … sorry to bug, but went looking for this thread in the events section. Might make sense to ask a mod. to move this thread to the events discussion section? Just so members (in theory) find it easier?

Agreed... Two days of park tickets kills any idea of calling the event a good deal for non passholders.

Does anyone remember the hours on Thursday before event you can pick up your credentials (Coronado Springs)? Trying to figure out which day to arrive. Thanks!

You know, I thought of putting it in the events coverage section but saw timeerkat put the DSF event in this sub forum. I just followed suit. Mods can move this thread if they want.

I have never been to a pin event, or even traded in person. I am weighing it since I wanted to make two trips to disney year, but I am on the fence if I should so one during the event. I am not sure how I would feel about it. I like trading off boards and with cast members...not sure how I'd feel in person and on the timing of this.

I went to the LIAA event two years ago by myself and had a blast. Several years before I went to a pin trading meet at The Contemporary when I just happened to be at WDW the same time. I spooked and left after a few minutes but these are much different. Plenty of stuff going on to feel comfortable and finally meeting friends from DPF you have never seen. GO!

I went to Love Is An Adventure a few years ago, and while I did spend a bit of time in the back room trading with other attendees, a large part of my time was spent at the trading boards. You get a bunch of tabs to do board trading with your registration, and there are people who trade their tabs for pins, so it's entirely possible to spend most/all of the event just doing board trades with cast members.

@bcol and @timeerkat Thanks! It's tempting. I wanted to hit up food and wine fest so I would have to swap that for this. I hate having to choose !

My pinpics id is the same as my id here. I will be attending this event. If anyone wants to coordinate any trades to happen in August, please let me know.

We should start a "Pre-Trade" thread in the Pin Trading section for the Fairy Tails Event!! :)

I just started one for the 2/28 WDW Disney Trading Night there for anyone to use. :tigger:

My son and I have gone for four years and have a blast. You meet so many new people and then connect with them the next year. Between the pin broads, all the pin gifts, viewing of all the new pins coming out for the rest of the year, pin trading and meeting so many people it is well worth the value to get in. :p The stars aligned and the calendar makers smiled down on me. Students don't arrive until August 12th so I am planning to attend. I can't wait to meet some peeps and see some peeps again.

Family is going back and forth between Boardwalk and Bonnet Creek. I'm saving the pin budget for this.
