I don't think they did anything like that on purpose, DoomScarf. However, when they moved the DisneyStore.com warehouse a few months ago, all of their pins were packed up, and some were lost in the process. My guess is that they've found some of them. This is great news!
 
Disney NEVER announces that they lost pins. They just lie and say they are sold out. It was amazing that anyone was able to complete the collection. I have made no pin purchases since the last pin was released.
