Question has anyone ever mad a trade with a child you regret. I didn’t trade something major, just a spare LR mystery pin, but it just bugged me. The only reason I made the trade was because it was a child and they were so eager to make any kind of trade. But now I’m stuck with a pin I and no one else wants but at least I made a kid happy.

Please let me know if any of you have done this and regretted it, or tell me if I should stop beating myself up or if you think I was a gullible idiot.

Is it a pin you can trade at the park next time you go?

You did make a kid happy and that's wonderful. :)

I have definitely done that. I trade a stitch donut LE pin for a rack pin that I later realized was damaged. She was maybe 5? She was so excited about that pin. Every time I look at the damaged pin I cringe a little but she was very excited about so I guess in the long run it wasn’t that bad.

Oh yeah it’s real, a retired 2009 rack pin. It was nice to see them so happy but I felt sort of naive, as if a horde of children had come up to me I would of just given away all my pins.

I hope I just see this as taking part in Disney magic and don’t become bitter about it. After all I’ve always wanted this hobby to be fun and relaxing. I don’t want to be constantly keeping score of trades as Winn’s and losses.

I have GIVEN pins to young children more times than I can count while walking around the parks. Sometimes I had a pin a child really wanted, other times a child just really wanted to trade; in all of those cases, the children were new to pins/pin trading, didn't have many (or any) traders, and I opted to gift the pin instead of trading as a way of spreading a little Disney magic.

I've been pin trading since 2002; I probably can count the number of times giving away a pin or trading it for any pin I can 'stick on a lanyard' has not gone well on both hands and not use all 10 fingers. Stop beating yourself up over it. The way I would look at it: pins are supposed to make people happy, right? You traded away a pin to make a child happy, correct? You may not have gotten a pin you want, but since it's a legit pin, you didn't get cheated in your trade; you have a tradeable pin. It may take you a while to find the right 'home' for the pin or you might have to trade it to a cast member lanyard/board to get something you can use to trade for what you want, but if you're patient, it will happen eventually.

Furthermore, there is no guarantee that you would have been able to trade the pin you traded to the child for any given pin that you might want. That's what makes pin trading so tricky. You might have desirable pins, but the other person who wants them also has to have something you want and then you both have to agree on the trade (X for Y). Definitely stop kicking yourself and move on.

I’m with Steph. I have straight up given kids pins before, it makes their day!! Way more important to me in the long run, the warm fuzzies just win me over.
Alternatively I also keep a kids book, and I let kids trade CM style in that book only (it’s also the same book I use to trade on lanyards so no losses to me), and as long as it’s not a scrapper, I let the kids trade from it as they please!

I am pretty open when trading with "kids" - if I have something that they like, and I do have them displayed for Trades, I will do it regardless of value-for-value. That being said, I have seen "sharks" at the Parks using "kids" to get what they want. That is pretty sleazy but they are sharks for a reason.

I have made many trades with kids. I have no regrets for making those trades (and yes... I have made trades with children and I have received scrappers... my logic is that everyone starts somewhere and I do not want to be the one to tell a small child their pins are crap... talk about spoiling the fun for them.) What I do regret are opportunities I had to trade with a child and I didn't do it.

@Mike_Mouse I am glad you traded with the child. You made a child's day! Good for you!

@Mike_Mouse You did a nice bit of Magic for someone's kid. :) It probably made the trip extra special for the little guy or girl.
