Do you collect any other dolls besides Disney?

Maybe I should do that... It would require finding some floor space though :p. it'll be easier in the future when I have my own place so don't have to cram everything in one room. When that happens, the rest of the Hat-tastic girls will be the first thing I buy!

Whoo for Dexter! I agree with you about the glasses, and when his crown has been sat properly on his head. I love the subtle pattern on his jacket, it looks great :).

I definitely love Cerise and Cedar and Maddie. All three Hat-tastic girls are gorgeous. I will be breaking my one per doll rule for those three.

As for space, I buy cheap bookshelves that I can put together myself. It gives me lots of vertical space. I put my big 17" Heirloom dolls on top. I can adjust shelves to the height I need for some of the others. Definitely running out of space, though. :(

Thanks for the link. It's interesting it's a pre-order though, as the variant I'm looking for is out in the US, just not the UK. Does that suggest the variant is due to come to the UK in August, or that the site just won't get the stock in until then? Curious indeed...

If the newest version of doll is not available anywhere in UK, this must mean UK will be getting stock in August. I would think it is cheaper for you to wait till August than to pay shipping from US. Maybe by then, stores will have them and you can pick the one you want?

Even in US, people will get the newest doll and, yet, the doll doesn't even seem available anywhere. When Cedar first came out, she sold out on Amazon in record time. Secondary market prices on Amazon were crazy. I knew they would restock. I ended up buying her through Mattel's site at discounted rate due to promo code. Being patient always scores me a cheaper doll. :D

I have the original Maddie. Bought her in a Justice store. She was $36, but Justice had 40% off sale. She has original face, five dots on lip (but you can barely see the ones on outer edges), and no key hole in back of box. Someone said the key hole was added to show people there was a doll stand behind the packaging. People were throwing out the packaging and then complaining about no doll stand. Hahahaha.

Personally, I have hard time telling difference between original and new versions of these dolls. I think the original dolls had rounder faces, and the eye paint is a bit nicer on new ones.

Anyway, hope, one way or the other, that you get her.

I contacted the seller. Turns out the bit about August was left over from when he first listed it last year. He's going to check the Maddies he has in stock though just in case. I'm crossing my fingers. As you say it will probably work out cheaper, especially as I'd have to take customs into account buying internationally. I'm trying to be patient, I'm just not very good at that! :p. I applaud your patience though, that's definitely the way to go to save money :).

The main reason I want the newer one is that the skin tone on her face matches her body whereas when I've looked at the original the face is a different shade to the body and it really sticks out to me. I think the newer ones make-up and hair is nicer too.

My worry is that some dolls, such as the Hat-tastic ones, might not make it to the UK. I'm worried that they haven't been popular enough to keep bringing the new ones out over here but I hope I'll be proved wrong as I want to try and be patient and get Legacy Day Maddie when she's available here. The seller on that website said he will be getting the next wave of Legacy Day dolls and the Hat-tastic ones so at least I can get them there if they don't turn up in shops here. It would be nice to actually pick my own doll in the shop though (especially as I have some vouchers I've been saving just for that purpose! :p)

Thanks again for the link, it's great to have a UK store I can turn to. I think he must get his stock from Mattel US as he has Cedar already. I'm hoping that might mean that he has the variant Maddie. Oddly, when he said he would be getting the new Legacy Day dolls he said "in a few weeks" but when I asked if that meant he knew the release date, he said no more... Has anyone on here heard anything?

I've just joined this site and I also collect monster high and ever after high dolls, I think they're the most highly detailed dolls around that you don't have to break the bank for! :)

So, I've seen an owner photo of the Maddie hat-tastic set pop up on Tumblr. Anyone heard anything about it being released? I'll still have to wait until it comes to the UK but it would be nice to know if it's out in the US, and how much they're selling it for.

In other news, I stumbled across a nice blog, Confessions of a Doll Collector's Daughter, that I've very much enjoyed reading. She posts some lovely photos and has now got me interested in Kawaii Crush, and the mini Hujoo dolls. Anyone here own/collect either? I love the look of the baby Hujoos and they seem very reasonable compared to bigger dolls and resin dolls, but I wouldn't know where to start with the eyes and face-up etc. I'd love to see photos if anyone has them though :).

If you want a link to the blog, let me know and I'll dig it out of my history. Looking for recommendations for other doll blogs to read too!

Further to my previous comment, I did a little digging and found that the Maddie Hat-tastic playset is available on amazon.de, which is where the person who posted their owner photo got it from. The Legacy Day Maddie is also listed there, which I found interesting! The playset is also listed on amazon.co.uk but looking at the shipping cost, I think it's from the people in Germany too. It's nearly £70 with postage, so I think I'll be waiting a while for that to come down!

I finally got a lead on finding the variant signature Maddie though, yay!

Anyone got any other new dolls lately? I'm slowly but surely falling in love with mini BJDs... So much cuteness! It's almost a good thing I can't afford them :p. I'm already on the hunt for Kawaii Crush figures though, since they're more wallet-friendly. Speaking of mini BJDs/BJD style dolls, does anyone here have a Makie?

Getting the impression I'm talking to myself here :p.

So, I couldn't find Kawaii Crush in any shops here, so I've given up the hunt for those for now. I did discover, however, that Zelfs are available in supermarkets here in the UK! I was really surprised as I'd seen photos on blogs but they were all US residents so I'd assumed they were US only. For some reason I also thought they were really specialist/expensive (and that there were only big ones) but clearly I was wrong about that too! I bought one Lil' Zelf yesterday and got a standard Snap Jack, so adorable! Although he has some glue drops on his face that I need to remove. Then in another store I saw a medium Birchy and fell in love, so he came home with me, along with another Lil' Zelf pot that turned out to contain none other than - Birchy! I can't work out if it's a standard one or a pearly one though... I'm a little sad I missed Wave 1 of these little cuties.

I know Zelfs probably don't count as dolls so if I'm going off topic then feel free to tell me off! I just like writing about my finds and it would be lovely to hear if any of you collect them. I've noticed a lot of doll collectors posting pictures of Zelfs with their dolls (I discovered a Lil' Zelf stands beautifully on Maddie's hand, it's adorable!) so I wonder if they're a common thing to collect?

Oh! In other news, a contact in America has picked up the variant Maddie for me, yay! She will finally be mine, once she's been mailed on her way. So excited!

Okay, I'll stop talking to myself now... Hopefully someone else will comment soon or this thread is going to look like the ramblings of a doll/toy-crazed madwoman... :p

My signature Maddie variant is on her way to me, eep! They've sent it with full international tracking so I'm going to be watching it like a hawk. So excited! I'll probably end up taking loads of photos when she arrives :).

In other news, I knitted two little skirts for my Getting Fairest Maddie as it bugged me that her dress was too short for her to sit down with any decency. They turned out pretty cute, I'm vaguely impressed that I managed to make something wearable! Perhaps I should take the jump and try sewing some outfits.

I'm hoping one of you guys is going to join in this conversation I'm having soon, as I'm sure talking to myself online isn't too healthy... Anyone going to talk to me? :p

I would love to see what you made for them :) And of course yout Maddie, too, once she arrives. I'm pretty sure if you managed to knit those little skirts, you could definitely sew one, too.
(I don't have anything to show, I just look at pictures others make, so I can't give you helpful advice.:()

I watched the despair slowly building on Tumblr :p. She looks lovely, I just don't envy those that will now have to struggle to get hold of her! If they'd released a Maddie I'd never have chance, being in the UK and having a limited budget. But I do love the idea of Cerise following her father's story. I look forward to seeing photos when you get her!

Glad to hear the O'Hairs are popping up more. I've seen that Legacy Day 2 are also out in some parts of Canada and I think have been spotted in the US too. Plus the Maddie Hat-Tastic playset is in stock on Toot's Toys, so hopefully will appear in stores before too long. Now I just have to wait for them to cross the pond. Oh! Did you see the promo shots of Hat-Tastic Cedar? She has the CUTEST hat!

Now that I'm no longer talking to myself, I'm going to repeat my earlier questions: Does anyone here own/collect Hujoo dolls? And does anyone have a Makie? I've been reading loads of doll blogs and seen mention of these (and also another type of BJD, can't remember the brand name... AI maybe?) so I thought it would be nice to hear about them from anyone that has one. I'm sorely tempted by a cutie-faced Makie, especially as they're made in the UK, but they're out of my budget range.

Yep, I was watching the madness too! I didn't think that I would need her, but I ended up kind of obsessed with her. I haven't decided if I will debox yet, but there will be lots of pictures!

I think the hat tastic set is on amazon too. Supposedly my target has the dolls in stock, but I haven't had a chance to check.

I think she's likely to be one to keep in the box, it looks like it will make a beautiful display!

More photos are popping up of Hat-tastic Maddie, she looks amazing. No stand though, but her chair is very cute. I'm saving up in anticipation of her arrival in the UK, even though it will be months away. Also considering saving up for a Makie, but that's a far more expensive purchase...

She's here, she's here! My lovely signature Maddie is here. I'm so happy :). I haven't taken any photos yet. I probably should have taken some pictures in her straight-out-of-the-box condition but the gunk in her hair was so icky that I had to wash it out. I don't think I got it all but it's much better than it was. It even made the box greasy around where the tags went into her head (I hate those tags, I wish they wouldn't put them in the head like that!) so I just had to get rid of it. Blegh. Nice and soft now though. I'm going to let it dry and then work out how to re-curl it.

I've heard that you shouldn't use plastic brushes (i.e. the ones that come with the dolls) on the doll's hair, does anyone know what kind of brush I can use? Any recommendations of brands etc? Cheers in advance!

Congrats on getting your Maddie!! I'm so glad you found her. :) I got the O'Hair sisters today! They didn't have them out at my Target, but I used a picture of the barcode with a scanner and they had them in the stockroom. A worker was nice enough to bring out the box for me, and I got to pick the set I wanted. So no wonky-eye for me!

I also got my Ignim's head back today! She was off getting a faceup done. Here are two quick pictures!

I'm still waiting on her eyes and clothes (SOOM girls are so hard to get clothes for!), but I just love her so much. *A*

Yay and yay for you! Glad to hear you got to pick your O'Hair girls out. They're lovely :).

The pictures look great! What a beautiful face-up. Are the eyes she's got in at the moment just temporary ones, as you say you're still waiting on her eyes? If so, what eyes are you waiting for? I'm sure she's going to look lovely when she's got her eyes and clothes!

I've had a look on eBay for wig brushes and the brand that's coming up most seems to be Annie, anyone have any experience with that brand? Also, I'm wondering whether to go for a round cushion one or a 3 row one. Any advice is greatly appreciated! I just don't want to damage her hair so I want to get the right kind of brush. I gave her hair another wash this morning to hopefully remove the last of the goop, I guess I will see how well it worked when I get home as I left her drying when I headed off for work. Fingers crossed the goop is gone! Oh - any advice on how to curl hair would also be appreciated :).

I'm waiting on a group order of Mako Urethane eyes! It was a huge order, so I'm betting they won't ship until July. I picked out four different pairs, so I'm going to have a tough time picking which ones to use! :)

I don't really know about wig brushes, but I wish I could help! :( I think that a lot of people (myself included) use the boil-curl method. The curls that this person did for their Maddie are amazing!

I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge, is that a designer or a company name? I'm not very familiar with all the custom doll things but I find it all very interesting! I've read through the archives of about five doll blogs in the last fortnight :p. Most of them are about playline dolls though, with a few Hujoos, Pullips, Blythes and Makies thrown in. I assume SOOM are BJDs, is that right? And is SOOM a name for a range in the same way that Pullips or Blythe is, or are they more specialised/limited than that? I'm sorry if I sound really stupid, I'm just curious and severely lacking in knowledge at this point!

Thank you for the video link, I will check it out. I think I need to give Maddie's hair one more wash as it no longer feels crispy, just gently greasy. I'm wondering if I can use a tiny bit of normal shampoo on it, or if that will damage doll hair. I'm going to have a look in my local shops to see if I can find a wire brush like the ones on eBay, and when I've found one I will give curling a shot and let you know how I get on!

Do you brush/style the wig your Ignim is wearing in the picture or do you just leave it as it is?

SOOM is the company name. :) Website: Here. They make a bunch of different sizes of BJDs, but Ignim's size is unique and makes it hard to find clothes that will fit correctly. But SOOM is the company, and they have a few lines in different sizes. They are all BJDs, though. :)

For Maddie's hair, I think shampoo would be fine. I actually washed out Poppy's hair yesterday (it was hard as a rock!). I used hot water, and I used conditioner first. Then I used the shampoo, and it didn't hurt the doll at all. Poppy's hair is nice and soft today.

Ignim's wig in the picture hasn't been styled yet, but it doesn't need very much done. I usually use a water-wax to style wigs for dolls, I just don't have it with me right now (and I'm too lazy to go buy more). I think anything water-based works, and won't damage doll hair.

Thank you for the info! There's some beautiful dolls on that site, no wonder you are a fan :). Do you have many dolls from there? Also, do you have a particular focus for which BJDs you collect or do you just pick ones that catch your eye? Oh, one more question (although please feel free to tell me to be quiet if I'm getting annoying!) do you only get dolls of a certain size, or a variety of heights and if so, what size is your biggest doll?

Have you seen/heard of Makies? I'm getting more and more tempted toward one. It's just such a big chunk of money to spend on one doll compared to EAH prices, although I know they're quite a lot less than most BJDs but I think their tiny size probably explains that. I just keep going back to the idea in my head. They have some of the customisability of bigger BJDs which is nice. Especially the ability to change hair, I love the fantasy coloured wigs in the shop. I think the eyes can be changed too. I'll probably keep mulling it over for months >.<

That's good to know about the shampoo, I think I might try it just to shift the last bit of hair gunk before I attempt curling. The video is brilliant, I will definitely be following their techniques, thank you for that! I notice they use the plastic brush that comes with the doll so maybe it doesn't matter so much to use a wire one. Perhaps I've just read so many blogs that I'm getting paranoid :p. I'd think it would make sense to be able to use the plastic brush as these are playline dolls after all, the brushes must be designed for children to use on the hair... Perhaps it's just collectors being careful if they re-style a lot.

I'd love to see pictures of the eyes when they arrive, I know you said it will take a while, but do post a pic when you get them!

I've always been a fan SOOM dolls, I just think they are so beautiful. <3 Right now, I just have Ignim, and I'm finishing up my layaway for the Fox. :) They are both Super Gem sized, which is 64cm. SOOM dolls are just so pricey! I'd have tons of them if I could, but that's totally unreasonable hahaha! I really just pick them if they catch my eye, but I do have that bias towards SOOM. I really like the 65cm size that I have. I've had 42cm sized before, and I just prefer the bigger dolls. The biggest I have ever had was a 70cm boy. I don't know very many people who collect BJDs, so I don't mind the questions at all! I like talking about them. <3

I actually hadn't heard of Makies. I'm on the website right now though, it seems really cool that you can make them online! I'd definitely do some research if you think you might want one. I looked at BJDs for months before I got one, and never did I regret the decision. :)

I've never been particular about what brushes I use, so you probably know more about it than I do. I usually just use the ones that come with them. Here is a quick picture of Holly and Poppy for anyone curious! I wasn't crazy about their concept art, but I love them (especially Poppy) in person!
