8:23 we heard a noise. Furnace kicking back on. Power! Yay! So now I’m up for awhile. Gotta catch up on what I missed.

Wow, that's some analysis! More than I intended, as my goal was to be straightforward with this. Although there might be a tiny bit of targeted useful information to be gleaned from the anaylsis.

Hint #2: This won't require additional manipulation. No ciphers, no scrambles, no visits to additional websites (although that was a completely amazing way to hide numbers).

A couple of those words (but not all) are really interesting.

Okay, interesting. Well, I need to adjust my perspective... One thing we do know theoretically for sure is that every tracking number starts with 9. Usually, 9500, 9505 or 94. And we know that there are 22 numbers in them. At first I thought it was like a word or something per sentence, but, there are only 21 sentences.

Let's add some new thoughts in:

Lots of seemingly random alliteration (mischief our mysterious, realize role-reversal, brain busters, etc)
Some odd sentence structure (Routes to solve may, not a puzzle for which, Even though we solved them in the end, certainly sure, etc)
Out of the ordinary word choices (veer, routinely, venture, re-engagement, etc)
    Quite a few hyphenated words/phrases (re-energizes, re-engagement, puzzle-solvers, quasi-xena, role-reversal)
This split sentence (We’ve had a couple recent brain busters. Even though we solved them in the end.)

I'm not sure if these are just the hallmarks of Hope's writing style, or if they're clues.

Actually, if we include the "I never expected" line at the top, it would make 22...[IMG]

But then you'd have to include the actual first sentence, and you'd have 23!!!!

I also keep getting hung up on the "initially obvious" bit. I thought maybe something to do with the ZZP initials, but I can't find a pattern..

I thought that, too. I tried counting the number of words that start with p or z, counting the letters in words with p or z, the number of ps and zs in each sentence...

I also keep getting hung up on the phrase "one hundred and sixtieth." It seems arbitrary, but what if it's not. It's the only number (as long as you don't count couple) in the whole clue.

I think this is actually probably the biggest clue we've gotten:

So theoretically, we're looking for a collection of words, of which, one will not belong? Maybe?

After reading it again, I actually messed up twice, and I really hope not anymore, considering how stumped you are. This was really hard for me to put together.

But same caveat as our nice cat memes, posted above. As @Tokaji reminded everyone, tracking numbers have 22 numbers in them.

Oh snap! First sentence is a question so drop that since it's not like the others. That provides 22 sentences as others have said. She had to use unusual language to get the right number of words in each sentence. Count the words in each sentence and take the last one if it's double digits! First sentence is 19 so 9!! I have to run for dinner so can't do the rest!!!! Test it!!!! (Or I will a little later when I'm back.)

Assuming hyphenated words were counted as one word and not two:
    9429 0591 4761 8784 3358 38

Counting hyphenated words as two words:
    9429 0691 4761 9785 3358 38

Both are showing as Status Not Available....

Hmmm...Didn't play out. But it feels right. I wonder if there is another factor like punctuation counts or something?

Hmm...there has to be, but I don't know if it's to do with punctuation. The first sentence with 19/9 letters has a comma and a period; if we add in punctuation it would then become a 1 (or zero if we exclude periods and just add in internal punctuation. (And hope herself said the punctuation is irrelevant aside from making them into actual sentences.)

I'm also trying to figure out what hope means by "A couple of those words (but not all) are very interesting."

At one point I was thinking about the words with double letters, but not all the sentences have double lettered words.
