There is going to be a designated pin trading area and I'm trying to figure out what to bring with me!

My priority is going to be trying to trade for any of the almost 40!!!!! pins being released there that I'm going to need so I'll need to bring some better stuff but there's only so much I can carry for three days straight so that means one bag max - but I'm worried if I only have my better stuff that I'll run into people with a bunch of Loungeflys I'm missing and won't be able to trade for them. The FOMO is real!

What are you planning to bring with you to trade this weekend?

And if anyone has any of my wants and wants to set up a pre-trade there - message me! 🙂

None. Buying is my focus at D23. It takes so much energy to work on getting into stores and acquiring pins I have none left over for trading. Plus having to lug the pins there and around for three days and, even more importantly, them taking up space that could be used for hauling new pins home. Then on top of that, the value of the new pins isn't really yet known and will take at least a few days to settle down and I would like that to happen before I start trading for/with them. But that's all just me. I know a lot of people do trade at the event and i wish you success at getting your ISOs.

I would love for buying to be my focus. But that's dependent on sheer luck in the virtual queues, which I can't count on.

Agreed the prices won't settle until after - which is why I plan on going to the Kraken event the following week - but I have to be prepared to try to trade for anything I can given there are 39 pins I need this weekend!

I spent a long time putting my better trade pins into one bag tonight but I think it's going to be too heavy to carry, so I'm going to look at it again tomorrow night.

It might just be me, but I find in-person trading to be REALLY exhausting. And, I'm totally overwhelmed with the amount of releases at D23 that I almost just want to throw my hands up and step away from hobby a bit, ha.

But, I'm a KH collector above all else, and Disney pins are just a subset so I'll always kind of just be in the periphery. We didn't even get Sunday tickets, so the one set I'd have sprung for won't even be within reach for me! I imagine I'll be spending more time on eBay after the event...

All this week I was getting BOGO offers from Disney for Sunday Expo tickets so I don't think they sold out. 🙂

I've been getting emails too! What is it about Sunday that it's still available?! I'm expecting to be exhausted by then so I've decided to skip a while ago...

I just spent a couple hours trading at the Marriott, almost everyone had higher end pins but a lot of people also had mid range or low value pins too. Several people had hidden mickeys. I am disappointed I didn’t bring my whole trade book, I think

I brought mostly my higher end trade pins - for me that would be $40-$50-ish pins as I don't have much that's "fire" - to try to trade for anything from today and didn't have much luck. People were more interested in my smaller stuff in the pin trading area so I traded for a Loungefly and the parks mystery kitty in a teacup with that stuff.

I may try bringing another one or two higher end ones tomorrow plus some more smaller stuff.

I am exhausted. And I am done with the D23 Expos. If it was not for the AMAZING kindness of the pin community, I would be sitting here crying right now as I felt like doing all weekend long.

The misery:

Had a 3 day ticket and got into ZERO queues/stores the ENTIRE weekend and only one panel and got very limited swag that they made you work for. So basically all I did with my 3 day ticket was sit in the tiny pin trading area all weekend begging people to trade with me and mostly failing. D23 has finally reached SDCC levels of it being a total and utter waste of time as you can't see anything, do anything, get anything or buy anything.

There were 41 pins released this weekend that I needed (42 if you count the impossible Loki adorbs which I ain't getting lol). Now I knew this was going to be a rough year/event due to the Alice anniversary, but since so many other things came out - and a certain number of people seemed to get into every queue and take their friends repeatedly and have absolutely TONS of the pins released but would only trade for more of those new pins - it was absolute agony trying to trade for anything when I had zero new pins to trade with. I was also limited by only having what pins I could carry, which meant one bag and never enough of what I needed.

The joy:

COMMUNITY. COMMUNITY. COMMUNITY.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the amazing people who I have had the blessing to encounter in my many years of pin trading. And yet it still surprises me every time with kindness and generosity.

This is what made me finally go over the edge and cry this weekend: kindness.

While I'm still missing several pins released this weekend - basically all the hardest ones lol - I had pin friends from parks, local events and here (@TheMickeyMouseRules thank you for our trade when I was so tired and worn out I could barely function any more!) helping me out wherever and however they could to get me some of the pins for my collection.

One trader friend managed to grab me the WDI Alice mystery boxes and Alice comics while they were in the store on Friday and gave them to me at cost.

Another who knew me from the parks traded me one of the jumbo pins knowing this was going to a collection, not a reseller.

Another pair of dear traders I know who saw what I'd been going through all weekend actually zapped me a pin from the event that I needed AND the two cute little Alice & Cheshire mystery Loungefly mini-backpack keyrings! While another trader zapped me the Alice medallion released this weekend. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and their thoughtfulness after what was SUCH a frustrating experience.

Today - which I took off to decompress lol - I need to reset my park pin trade bag going into tomorrow's Alice anniversary park pin release and then will reset all my trade bags again for Kraken this weekend where I will once again attempt to trade for the pins released at the event that I need without having any event pins to trade with! And so it goes...

I'm so glad that your D23 story had a mostly happy ending, @Jabberwocky. Thank goodness for the goodness and generosity of the pin collecting/trading community. I can imagine the sheer frustration of not getting any virtual queues day after day. I wish you the best of luck with tomorrow's drop and the next Kraken event.

Thank you. I LOVE my pin collection and the movie and characters it represents in those beautiful little pieces of art, but I 100% owe it to help from the community & pin friends. It absolutely takes a village!
