do you only get the pins you like, or do you try to get every pin with the character/movie/theme?

As a Stitch collector, I learned early on to focus only on pins I want and not try to get them all! Also, I've had some pins that once I got them, I realized I didn't really like them and traded them away. And, when going to pin trading events I've seen Stitch pins that I'd thought wouldn't look very good but after seeing them, they went straight to my wants list!

For other characters that I kind of like with lots of pins (Cheshire and Tigger), I collect very few of them and really only the ones I think are really cool.

And in some other areas that I collect which have fewer pins, I have gone a little more "completist". Like Si and Am or Emperor's New Groove.

So, I think the answer is getting what you really want and what you can afford, and not worry about getting them "all".

I only collect pins I like for my collections, I don't see the point in going for a pin I don't really want. The biggest example of this for me is the fox and the hound pin that has tinkerbell and the caterpillar squeaks. Go look at the pin and you will prolly see why I don't want it XD!

I also don't see the point in getting a pin that looks exactly like another pin for example the 110th legacy collection from ds. com and ds.jp, the pins are exactly the same one just has gold metal and the other black. I really do not see the point in having both, when its exactly the same design.

I collect

Cinderella, haunted Mansion & Pooh

My hubby collects

Stitch, jungle Book & lion king

Star Tours!! and now im also starting to collect Tron and Lion King
My GF collects Ariel, Aurora, and Snow White
The Star Tours pins are a little hard to collect mostly because around 80% are LE 1000 and not many people let them go, and the few that are on ebay are the same ones over and over again
We barely started but i feel were on the right track

Hola Vicki

I collect things related to Alice in Wonderland. I don't collect all the cheshire cat, just the ones that pertain to either the animated movie or the real movie. I also collect other pins that I really like.

I collect Jessica Rabbit, and Nightmare Before Christmas mainly. I have learned to be a little more selective with the pins that I collect because in the past, I was getting rid of great traders too quickly. Then when I found pins that I absoolutely loved, I had nothing left that anyone wanted

Since certain movies I collect have so few pins, I try to collect all the ones listed for those particular films (Treasure Planet, Great Mouse Detective). But since other themes I'm working on are a much wider subject, such as Donald Duck, I only go for those pins that catch my eye. There's no way I would even try to collect all of his pins, my wants list would be over a thousand pins, I'm sure.

Well as I've started collecting Haunted Mansion... and there's a lot of those; I'm deciding to specialize in certain characters or sets... and even then I doubt I'd try to get every pin of said character. Though if I start collecting something that doesn't have many pins I might try to collect them all.

My main focus has been collecting every pin from my favorite Disney movie...Sleeping Beauty! Pins relating to the movie and all it's individual characters. Not being anywhere near a Disney Park, I only discovered pins when I discovered the Bay, then Disney Auctions and disneystore.com. That was in 2002, I think. I quickly became sucked in, though, or hypnotized (lol) and started buying many other pins I really never should have because they caught my eye for one reason or another. That lasted for quite a few years until I finally came to my senses again to focus only on Sleeping Beauty pins. I've sold some of my "really never should have bought" pins, but I still have bags and bags of pins I need to find the time to go through and try to sell!!! Not an easy task, by any means, and just the thought of it makes me very tired. Oh well... :)

If you looked at my collection you'd struggle to see a pattern! I do tend to go for similar pins though like Little Mermaid, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and now I want Tangled pins too (Not been to Disney since the film was made). But then I see pins and just love them, whether they match my theme or not!

My collection goes (bearing in mind I have only around 40 pins):
At least 1 from my top 5 fave disney films,
A few limited editions and mistake pins I bought to trade in future,
Present pins someone has given me or it somehow means something,
First ever pin I traded in disney (Pin 1815: Ariel Floating Full Length if anyone is interested :)),
Traders I have for mostly reasons unknown or pins I liked 10 years ago but aren't of interest to me now I'm more grown up :p )

The main things I collect are NBC and Donald and his family. I also pick up some Goofy.
There are thousands of pins available for each of them. It would be impossible for me to collect all of them due to limited finances and storage space so I've limited my wants to those I like a quite a bit.

Over the past few months I've managed to reduce my wants list from 3000+ to 2055. It helps when I ask myself "If someone were to offer this pin to me would I reject it or accept?" Hopefully this will result in less emails rejecting a trade with the explaination that the offered pin is a very low priority for me. (I really hope one of PinPics' new features is to rate/prioritize pins.)

From my periodic pruning of my wants list I've noticed that I tend to prefer pins of Jack & Sally, Donald & Daisy and those that are aesthetically pleasing or funny. I also like Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day themed pins. I generally dislike the Easter and Thanksgiving pins but there are a few I want. I also avoid pins made before 1999. I just think the old ones just don't look as nice.

I just trade/buy pins I like. I don't really have a goal to collect every peter pan/ pocahontas / little mermaid pin in the world. For example, disney wants to make us believe that ariel wore a green dress in the movie- she did not! It was pink lol. thats why i dont collect the pins of her in the green dress!
:)

Mickey is my man mostly because of the history of how this all got started. For me it's quality over quantity; if I don't love it or wouldn't wear it proud on my lanyard, it won't make it into my collection.
