I am just going nuts having fun with these things! IF anyone wants to do a series discussion using this basic format your more than welcome to!

This discussion is about the Movie Milestones. These pins are being released on a quarterly basis, and only at DLR/DCA. So only 4 will release this year. The series is LE2000. So far, the pins in this series do NOT sell out on day one, and in fact seem to stay available for a couple weeks. They also seem to be improving in desirability of the featured movie with each release. The pins seem to be a good heavy metal, and the quality so far has been good.

I assume there is a quarterly equivalant at WDW, and if someone can point me to that series i will add it to this discussion.

the pins::
  1. pin94203th72
Pin 94203: DLR - Movie Milestones - Steamboat Willie Release January 10th. This kick off to the series is a black/white envelope with a slider top. the inside slider says "steamboat willie."
  2. pin95368th72
Released April 11th. The second of the series is pink, with Snow white on the front. Inside is the movie title "Snow white and the Seven Dwarfs. I personally really liked this one.
  3. pin96664th72
Pin 96664: DLR - Movie Milestones - Beauty and the Beast ReleasedJuly 11th. BatB collectors seem excited about it. It features Belle and Beast sitting with a book. Very cute! Inside, as usual, is the movie Title, Beauty and the Beast.
  4. Toy Story is the final pin for this set. Releasing in October some time i assume.

So, what do you think of these?

Hit or miss?
What do you think will be the October Release?
Do you think they will continue the series in 2014?

heres a pic from the onceuponapin.com podcast of all 4 together.

Miss.

These pins aren't well designed, artwork is lazy. They are a bit big and clumsy, if pins can be clumsy. Hinged and slider, but the slider has silk-screened writing that will easily scratch off. Yuck. Also disappointed with the easel/posters this year. The hinged attraction posters last year were AMAZING, this years are awful. So bad. Even the train tickets are worse than last years keys/locks. The windows this year are hit and miss, but better than these other sorry offerings.

I only have Snow White from the series, and I quite like it. I think it's a cool concept, and I like the purple contrast, which is something different for her. I'm excited for BatB, but I think I'll only collect these for the characters I like--not to collect the entire series. I don't think the ones I don't collect (Steamboat Willie and whatever comes next), will special enough for me to spend the money. They're also different enough that I don't feel the need to display them together, so I won't be chomping at the bit to get them all.

I really like the designs, but it isn't the best series. I like the concept and feel like it's executed really well in Snow White, but I can't say for the others because I haven't seen them.

I like them, but they don't seem very popular. I think the next one will be Punzie, but I thought the Aug one would be TLM. So maybe it will be WIR to surprise me.

I have both the Steamboat Wille and the Snow White pins. Mark made some good points about the quality and design. I can easily see the writing getting scratched. They are awkward and heavy, so they don't really work in a pin book. That being said, I really kinda like them. Especially the Snow White pin. I will be getting the next two.

I saw a picture of the four pins together on onceuponapin.com. The October pin will be Toy Story with Woody and Buzz on the front.

I was going to collect the whole series but I don't really care for Toy Story. That being said, Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty should have been the last pin in the series. Those movies were actually huge movie milestones to both animation history and Disney history.

I only have the Steamboat Willie from this set, and it is probably the only one i'll be getting. I didn't think the others were worth the money. Like Mark said, the quality is quite poor on these pins, which is unfortunate because they have so much potential.

First, excellent points on the artwork being lazy, there was so much potential for this series and I think Disney blew it with the inside being just the titles. The outside is nice though! The series together, kept closed, is pretty.

I like them, but they don't seem very popular. I think the next one will be Punzie, but I thought the Aug one would be TLM. So maybe it will be WIR to surprise me.

No august one. This being a quarterly series, only 4 releasing... :(

Excellent! thank you i will be able to add that to the OP.

I just think it's weird that they didn't make more for more films. Just 4?

Yes, I think that if they had done this as a monthly series it would have been better. more variety to attract more collectors. With only 4 it has no chance of a "GREAT" well sought after popular movie, bolstering the rest.

Ditto to Toy story being a bad choice. They should have done something different, even if it had been another really old classic.

They look pretty cool. I haven't see one in person though. Are they going to make more or is it just the 4? They would be more popular if they made all of the classics.

well, I think its pretty obvious that they are moving forward in time, so there's no way the last one would have been Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty.

I meant that I thought the July one was gonna be TLM. since TLM started the Disney Renaissance. I was hoping for Rapunzel, even though Chicken Little is actually the first computer animation movie that Disney did. I love Toy Story, but that really is Pixar, so I am surprised it will be the last one.

my BatB Move Milestone is in the mail to me right now. I cant wait to get it!

I rather like the concept of these, and I'm dying to get my hands on the Snow White and Beauty and the Beast pins. However, I don't see why they did Toy Story as the last pin, and why they only did four in the set. Couldn't it have been a monthly release? That way they could have included the likes of Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid.

We actually really love this series. We also do not think there will be more next year as they focused on 'movie milestones'

Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon with synchronized sound.

Snow White is the first animated feature film, rather than cartoon.

Beauty and the Beast is the only animated film that has been nominated for Best Picture (then they add Best Animated Film).

Toy Story is the first fully computer-animated feature film and the first film by Pixar.
