my 2 year old loves to handle and "play" with my "crappier" trader pins. She is very good with them and I do not leave her unattended while she sits and lines them up. Something I thought about today....and I hope that it hasn't been brought up before and I am repeating something, but since these pins are all manufactured in China....has anyone worried about the paint they use on the pins? Like, maybe they have lead in them?? This might seem like a silly concern to someone who isnt a parent, or a parent to older children....but the thought struck me today and I tried to research it online and didn't really come up with any answers. Does anyone have any info on this??

hmmmmm I did some research, and though I can't find anything pin-specific, it does seem that enamel in general (cookware, bathtubs, paint) does have some lead that can leach out. I, personally, wouldn't think that playing with pins could leach enough lead (if the pins do in fact have lead) to be harmful, but I am not an expert, obviously!

That is a good question. I'm guessing if the pin has been made in the last 5 years (maybe 10) you shouldn't worry about lead in the paint. If its an older pin, you might have to worry. However, I doubt there is enough paint on the pins to harm your child but that is just my hunch. I could be wrong.

I would call Disney and ask. It's a very valid question and I wouldn't believe a word the Chinese said about the paint. But I would hope that Disney's QA department would not allow lead paint to be used.

While i seriously doubt disney would allow their pins to have any lead based or lead ingridient pins to come from them... Can't vouch for Counterfeiters. Don't let your littles play with the fake ones.
