I think I've really fallen for the PTD's as I've been looking through pins to make a trade. Am I crazy to start in on the game so late? lol I have one that my aunt got me when she was there last year. It's the Rapunzel PTD, so that's one harder one out of the way at least!

I think it's a good idea to collect them your not to late but you may not be able to be a completist as some of them are so dear on ebay! Me myself debating weather to start collecting the wdi sorcerer hat pins so I know ho you feel goodluck

Thanks :) Good luck to you too! I'm just so particular about the art of the pin and the PTD's seem to be fairly accurate representations of the characters! That's why I like them so much :)

It's never too late! They continue to crank them out, so there will be lots of opportunities to add. If you live anywhere near there, that makes it a lot easier. There ARE a lot of them and the older ones and popular ones are really hard to get. Instead of being a completist, maybe it's best to focus on characters or movies that you love and start there. You'll decide what's right for you. It's a fun group, enjoy the hunt!

As someone who has been collecting since the beginning, no theme that has been extremely popular has remained extremely popular. Eventually, things get too hot, and new stuff turns people's heads. So the hot things become yesterday's news. Any of the other old timer's could tell you about pins they never thought they'd own, that have made their way into the collection eventually. So don't be discouraged about starting something that is so popular. But a word of caution, figure out what price you are comfortable with, and don't stretch too far, thinking the price will only ever go up. Five years from now, what you paid $75 may only go for $30. If it's a pin you absolutely adore, that may still be okay, because the enjoyment you received from the extra years of ownership might be worth it.

IMO, the PTD's have been a strange phenomenon, because the pins themselves remind me more of your basic open edition pin, or even Hidden Mickey pin. Since they are essentially freebie pins, they are simple designs, usually small, and feature limited colors. There's nothing wrong with that, I collect all other PWP or GWP pins but only these have generated "frenzy" levels. The use of so many rare characters, and smaller LE sizes somewhat explain it, but I still tend to fall on the side that the reason the pins go for as much as they do, is because so many people bought them, not to keep, but to sell or trade. The tail is chasing the dog, so to speak. So long term, there aren't enough real collectors to maintain the high prices. Eventually, trade and restocking stock has to be liquidated. This isn't meant as discouragement, as when the "next big thing" comes around, I plan to actively accumulate more PTDs. Just to encourage prudence. Buy/trade for what is easily accessible and your favorites, and time should help with the rest (either prices come down, or as you get older and find better jobs, you have more money)

Its a great time to get PTDs. Even if your not from LA area most buyers will sale most of them for a couple dollars over cost. Just be patient and don't go crazy spending money one some of those crazy prices ones.. You will eventually find them.

I like PTDs because of the wide variety of characters that they are using - some I've never even seen pins of before!

It would be awesome to see a completist collection, though I probably wouldn't be one to try it, lol!

I wonder if anyone is a completist. If so, PLEASE post a picture here!! :hsd::tigger:

I don't know if there are any completists, maybe a few. There are several people who are within a dozen or so of being completists.

I think that as long as you're not upset over not being a completist, you should go for it if you really want it. Now is a great time to get started.
