ZAPPED! Amazing and Well-Timed Zaps
(1) Congrats on the awesome gifties!
(2) Dude, that big-time sucks. I hope it's just bad side effects that clear up soon. If it's C-diff ... woof. Be prepared, because they'll give you ... antibiotics. Probably metronidazole (maybe vancomycin, but it's more expensive and often reserved for cases that don't respond to metronidazole). And with metronidazole, if you even sniff alcohol, you'll be violently ill. Not that you're in a place to go bar-hopping anyway, ha, but take the warnings seriously. It's a very effective drug but must be respected.
Hope you are feeling better soon!!!!
Not that this thread is really for this, but the test did come back as c.diff positive. New antibiotic to fix the problem of the old one. See how this goes...

Booooo. But at least you have a prompt answer and treatment. There is no way to get rid of C-diff without antibiotics, and you REALLY don't want that running amok for any longer than it already has.
The problem with dental procedures is that you're darned if you do and darned if you don't. Even dentists have mixed opinions about prophylactic antibiotics ... You have an open wound in your mouth, which is loaded with bacteria on a good day (ha). If the infection risk is low, you're taking antibiotics that are more likely to cause side effects (not always this bad) than to prevent an infection. But if you forego the antibiotics and DO develop an infection in your mouth ... those can get out of hand quickly and cause serious sequelae that are way worse than minor GI side effects. (Google "infective endocarditis" next time you want to lose sleep over a rare but serious complication of a tooth infection left unaddressed. HA.)
Either way, you most assuredly got the worst end of this deal. I'm so sorry. You will hopefully see dramatic improvement in the first few days of treatment, but PLEASE in this case do not be tempted to stop taking the antibiotics as soon as you "feel better." C-diff is extremely nasty and you want to be 100% sure it is GONE rather than take a chance on it rebelling. It's already difficult to treat (you are young and otherwise healthy and promptly addressing it, so that's a general comment, not a "your case" comment) and if it gets the opportunity to build resistance to the few drugs that can overpower it, we're all doomed.
On that dramatic note, ha ha, I wish you speedy recovery!!!! And great comfort in the meantime!
I've been reading a lot about the argument within the dental community about antis. It's pretty interesting, and the resulting infections can certainly be terrible. From what I've found, though the ADA and AHA have pretty much retracted the prophylactic suggestion for a number of reasons.
I'm hoping I can convince my doc to prescribe me Dificid rather than metronidazole, as it may be better for my specific problem with IBS, since it's far more targeted to c.diff (that'd be a no). Broad spectrum antis scare me. lol.
Thanks everyone for your kind words!
