So a few days ago I opened my pin bag to put some new acquisitions in there and a pin fell out. at first i thought it was the actual pointy part off the back of a pin. Initially I got worried it was a "good" pin. After checking each and every one none were broken, so I threw the part away. fast forward to today I notice my Sword in the Stone storybook is closed, but crooked...IT WAS THE PIN TO ONE OF THE HINGES! i just spent the last half an hour scouring the trash can in my computer room, but had no luck. Short of replacing the entire pin, does anyone have any suggestions? Or does anyone have a beat up old storybook they could sell me on the cheap so I can have the pin hinge?!?! I'm very upset about this...I knew I shoud have kept it just to be safe

Take it to a jewler and have them make you a new pin. My jewler only charged me $5.00 for an 18k gold pin and my hinge works perfectly and no one can tell.

I asked my jeweler to fix one of my hinged Monsters, Inc. door pins, when the hinge pin was lost. He told me he couldn't help me.

This is the same jeweler that "fixed" one of my dangle pins by losing a couple of chain links, and taking more links off from the other side to make it "even" (it still hangs crooked).

In other words, I need to find a new jeweler.

Hope you have better luck with yours!

You could try scavenging another pin for the part you need. If not, brass stock of many gauge varieties can be found at Home Depot/Lowe's/ Osh (or other regional home supply store near your area) in the nut/bolt/ door section. Depending on the location of the hinge and the thickness of the hinge, it may be possible to place the replacement part in the hole and give several gentle taps to 'mushroom' the replacement metal rod in the hinge with a nail setter and hammer. Remembering to tape off the pin areas to prevent scrapes or dents on your pin would also be another idea to keep in mind.

Either DIY or the jeweler route, it seems you have several choices that can lead to a solid solution. If the pin is a keeper, this may meet the cosmetic and utilitarian needs for your pin; if you plan to trade it, the brass/metal stock is the closest to a real part, but you may want to disclose that the pin was repaired.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
