My kids were looking forward to pin trading this trip and it has been horrible-ruined by scrappers. Almost every pin they have tried to trade for has been a scrapper. I can`t believe some of the pins that are in the trading books. DD asked to see a Figaro pin today at the Boardwalk and it wasn`t just a scrapper but some of the paint was chipped and it had sticky residue all over it- it never should have been put in the book. I have let them trade a few pins for scrappers just because they really wanted them, but it is very discouraging. Sorry, just really frustrated and had to let it out.

Yeah I made a few trades on my recent trip and was disappointed when I checked them on PinPics and out of the pins I traded for, most were scrappers. I traded with a person at EPCOT once, with some cast members, and on pin boards.

I didn't really know what scrappers were at the time (have been pin collecting for a while but don't trade all that often) but now I will keep a better eye out on my next trip.

Yeah, that sucks, sorry. It is the same here at DLR. I used to like to hunt down the HM's when they came out, but the fakes come so fast now that if I don't have the time to go as soon as they are released I generally just don't try anymore.

We do let our 3 year old trade to her hearts content as she does not understand real from fake nor is she old enough yet to care. Also she will turn the same pin over three time a day when we are there. It's just a fun thing for her to trade, as she really doesn't "collect" yet. If your kids are younger and it is for fun I would just let them have the fun. If they are actually trying to collect pins and they are old enough to care then unfortunately there is not much you can do. I would try and get the trading done early in the day when lanyards and boards are hopefully fresh. Good luck.

I have to wonder about people who have so many counterfeits/scrappers in with their traders. Like, do they really think they're legit, or are they hoping to have someone take it off their hands and get something that they can legitimately trade off later in return?

As for cast member lanyards, I don't even bother anymore. The last time I went, I stopped one CM because I noticed a glimpse of a Figment pin that I wanted. Once I got to her, I noticed that all but one of her pins were very obviously counterfeits. I pointed them all out, and she just kind of shrugged and said, "I don't think they are, actually. Do you want one or not?"

What I found disappointing when we were there is we pointed out scrappers to cast members, as one example was this pin on a pin board on Main Street in WDW AND on the cast members lanyard:

and I tried to explain that the legit pins were LE25s and not likely to be found on a pin board, yet alone 2 in the same shop. They thanked us, took them off, and then when we returned an hour or so later, they were right back on the lanyard and pin board. At that point, I gave up looking at CM lanyards for the trip.

Oh my gosh! We were there in November and it was horrible. At least 70% of pins were scrappers. I had to guide my kids the whole time trying to help them not get scrappers. There was never anything decent. All junk! Definitely not worth cm trading. Oh how I wish we could go back to how nice it was 6+ years ago. It was so much fun back then. It gets worse every year but this year just shocked me. We were in every resort, every park, etc. There was never anything good. Definitely not worth wasting time with!

I've probably seen over 100 of those since the end of October and whenever I point it out the CMs just laugh it off like it's nothing =/

During our most recent trip, I saw this pin at least 10 times in different locations.

DLR - 2010 Hidden Mickey Series - Bedknobs and Broomsticks Collection (Secretary Bird)

I honestly had no idea what it even was and while we were at Riverside, the pin board even had some on it. When we went outside to check out CM lanyards, another one was on there. We were trying to figure out what it was and the CM said they wouldn't have known if someone hadn't told them. As soon as the CM said Bedknobs and Broomsticks (I could tell it was a bird and it looked familiar), I knew exactly where it was from.

I have no idea if any were scrappers but just found it odd there were so many of these (although I can't imagine it would be too popular of a pin).

When I was at WDW one night last week, I pointed out a fake figment pin to one of the workers (hers was mis colored horribly). I had a legit one in my bag and I showed her. She said " Oh they must just make them different colors like that"

I just walked out and never went back to that store.

But yeah, I went into the parks with around 40 pins, and left with about 5?
I gave about 10 to my mom, and pretty much gave out the rest of them to kids over the last few days as gifts

Not only did I see a few scrapper pins here and there, but I couldnt find any stitch ones
xD

Most of the pins I really didnt check for because I didnt keep
I know one I got from a lanyard is a scrapper, shame too because it would have been an LE150

My wife is a casual Trader and likes to look for HM's on CM lanyards when in WDW. Easily 8 out of 10 pins she Trades for are Scrappers - she doesn't really care since she likes the pin designs, but CM lanyards are all junk for the most part.

Trading in the Parks is getting more and more difficult.

I hust returned from WDW and couldn't beleive how bad it was. Pin Boards and Books not only did they have scrappers but multiple of the same one. It is really obvious when you have 4 of the same pin next to each other on a board and they are all slightly different colors. Not only do the CMS not care about the scrappers but they didn't care about the rule of not trading them a pin they already had. It is frustrating to see so many duplicates in addition to the bad scrappers.
