Hey guys!
I'm embarking on the quest of getting the DA masterpiece pins and I know there are a lot of fakes out there. What's the best way to tell if one is real or fake? Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

No idea, but the only scrappers/fakes I know of are the Lilo/Stich one and the Tinker Bell Starry night one.

The BATB one has the hologram on back so maybe the ones with the holograms on back won't have them?

EDIT: I bought the BATB masterpiece one from Jabberwocky so if you'd like a picture of the front & back, let me know and I will take one and text it to you. I think Merryweather may have a few of these pins too.

I was told by multiple credible folks that the entire serieshas been counterfeited and at a WDW September Event (I think the year Dizpins retired) someone was walking around with all of the counterfeits.

I heard rumors of a fake Persistence floating around DLR PTNs a couple of years ago, but I never saw it in person.

I know of a fake Daisylyne and Boating Ducks that exchanged hands at a DLR PTN some years ago. I was given the opportunity to examine both in detail and I was convinced that they were not the real deal.

DA’s Masterpiece Series is one of my many collections. I believe I can tell thefake from the real when I can see the suspected pin in person.

Which one(s) are you particularly concerned about?

There are some pictures on Dizpins. Yes, the website is gone but cached versions are still accessible via http://archive.org

On that page you can pull up Dizpins.com select a date when the website was active, so like 2010 and then you can can go to the page with the scrapper photos. The affected Masterpiece pins are on the very bottom of the page.

I can can post a link to the cached page when I get home but it's hard to do it from my phone. They might not be good enough for figuring out what is good and bad. I remember wavy gavels and the Starry Night one has miscolorings.

If you have a way to get in touch with Erica (erudolf) I think she has some both real and fake.

Thanks for the information everyone. I am looking into buying the first masterpiece series (6 pins) and wanted to know how to tell if they were real when I got them in my hands. They are supposed to be still stapled in the original packaging, but you never know. I don't want to be paranoid or untrusting, but I want to make sure I protect myself.

I had heard the whole series was scrapped and I don't buy them off eBay for that very reason, but another collector has them for sale and I wanted to be equipped before going ahead with the purchase. Thanks for the links. I'll go ahead and take a look them.

You guys rock!

Now that I'm home, For those technically challenged, hopefully this link will put up the archive.org link to the page with the Masterpiece pins.

I took a look at the link and a lot of the masterpiece pins that I'm currently listed are pictured there. That makes me nervous. I'm going to make sure I see them in person before purchasing them.

Also, is it true that the weight of the pin is telling of whether it is real or not?

In case it disappears again, here are pictures (Scrappers):

As I recall, the first and second set in the series don't have the DA Holograms on the back (or a place to put them)

Thank you! These are great. I'm looking forward to seeing the pins in person! I'll keep you posted on when I get the pins. :)
