New Friends,

I just got into Disney Pins while I was at Disney World last week. I bought a few pins and did some trades as well which was super fun.

One question I now have is can a cast member trade with what they have on their lanyard/pin pad at the end of the work day with their personal collection? Just curious what, if anything, a cast member can do if they get a pin they happen to get a pin they are hunting for in a trade.

Cast members are not allowed to trade while on stage or while they're on break. So if you're a cast member and a guest trades you something you need for your collection, you are not allowed to switch it out for one of your personal traders. You have to be out of costume and visit as a guest to be able to trade your own personal pins. As for the end of the day after the stores/attractions are officially closed and clear of all guests, you'd probably have to ask your lead/manager.

Now I suppose you could hand off your lanyard of pins to another cast member as you're clocking out and changing to become a regular guest. Then you could just find the same cast member on stage and try to trade for it.
 

Custodians get to take thiers home. We were allowed to trade one or two off of them if we wanted but were supposed to report it if guests gave you the same scrappers over and over. And at the end of the day there really wasn't a whole extra lot of good pins anyways lol. I used to bring mine home and show my grandma but we never took extras because we didn't start trading until I was almost done with my work there.
 
ehhh I took mine home everyday in both my roles and traded onstage and backstage with other CMs - helped me get a lot of HMs I needed and found some really cool pins on friends lanyards XD. Depends on the managers I guess. It's frowned upon but no one ever had any issues with people doing it - one of my managers even found me a pin I needed.

I always replaced one for one though, I knew of people who would just take them
 
As a former MK Cast Member, I can tell you we were allowed to keep our lanyard with us. Then again, it depended on your area as some kept a lanyard specifically for that location. If you are in costume, you are not allowed to pocket any pins or trade amongst other CM's whilst onstage; back stage, CM's could switch pins as they wished as long as they had the minimum required (9 for pouch, 12 for lanyard).
 
I have seen many CM's with a few pins of their own in their pocket. If a guest put a really good pin on their lanyard they may swap it with one in their pocket and keep it. I also used to see people put them on their lapel or on the strap of the hip thing and say they weren't for trade. Or they were saving them for a friend. I think it depends on the person.
 
I love learning all about this, thanks for the responses. Also love learning that so many of you all are/were CMs. I'm sure there will be a lot to learn!
 

although if its not a cast pin, or on the lapel they cannot tell you no you can't trade. That is one of the biggest ryules ever and you can get into huge trouble for that. If its shown its fair game.

the pocket thing is true too. There's a ton you find on the ground too and we try our best to find the owner but they end up being spares or mystery pins. I used to use mine for children who had barely started collecting or a somthing special when someone was looking for a character.

some CMS will turn a pin backwards and you cn mystery gamble trade for it!
