I know nothing about collecting Disney Pins. I decided this was a good place to ask questions. I recently bought a container of damaged freight from a trucking company here. In it was a box of these pins that were headed somewhere to be given out I guess. The box was damaged, but most of the pins were fine. They are in little black boxes with a label around them with the name of the recipient. My question is should I open them and try to sell them on eBay, Leave them sealed or throw them away. There are about 20 of them from 40 yr award to 1 year
 
Thanks I was afraid that would be it. I'll probably just store them back and let the Grandkids worry about it when I kick the bucket.
 
sigh. please dont sell them on ebay as those cms can easily get in trouble and fired for having cast items with their names on it sold on ebay, even if its not them selling it..

as one whose original service award went missing makes me paranoid that it may have had the same fate and is sitting in someone's house as a 'find'

And if someone destroyed something you had spent 40 years earning without even attempting to return it to you? How would you feel?

It's not that difficult to google "The Walt Disney Company" and call the main number and explain what happened. They'll probably refer you to Human Resources or something to deal with it.

the shipping company paid Disney for damaging them. Paid the claim for whatever
disney said they were worth. I'm sure they reissued them a pin. Does that mean everything in the container still belongs to the shipper. I think not.
 
I know you may feel that people are attacking you right now. I hope that is not the case. I am not saying you did anything wrong and in fact just the opposite. The fact you tracked down this site shows you want to do what is right. Disney has probably re issued the pins but it wouldn't hurt to ask them. They may actually be very happy somebody has them and offer you something for them. They could also tell you that they are yours and to do whatever you want with them. Then you proceed with whatever you would like to do with them knowing you did what you could.
 
I guess I'm the only one who's thinking "remove/obliterate the names and keep the collection"? Insurance settled things with Disney; removing/obliterating the names protects privacy. It's a heck of a collection in one fell swoop. OR...sell/trade them off. At least authenticity is good.
 
Freight gets damaged all the time. If the insurance company wrote off the container, then these pins are officially no longer Disney property. No need to get on jhelen's case; he/she has every right to resell them. Disney probably wouldn't even know what to do with these pins if jhelen tried to return them, since they were almost certainly re-issued. They wouldn't be looking for them.

By all means if it weighs on your conscience, try to contact Disney and return these, but know that they'll almost certainly destroy them.

Me? I would save them for your grandkids. Don't destroy them.
 
Interesting dilemma. I would hope that Disney would have reissued the pins to the correct folks though.
 
Cast members are reissued anniversary pins, its not a big deal just one most forget about. It stinks to loose one and never get it back but that wouldn't be what happened in this case. Disney has a policy in place to handle when cast members themselves loose the pins so i am sure they had themselves covered in this case as well. If you legally purchased the pins then they should be yours if you are concerned i would just call an attorney for a free consultation and ask them they could probably settle your worries very quickly. I would not destroy the pins there are many collectors as well as old cm's that would love to get them. If you are not comfortable selling them then leave them for the kiddos down the line, but it would be a shame to just destroy them. (PS i know nothing about legal stuff so this is all just opinion)
 
If you’ve already cleared it with Disney (that they’ve been compensated through insurance), they weren’t stolen (nope, damaged in shipping), and you legally purchased them, they are yours. Free and clear.

I’m sure that there are people here (possibly me) who would love to relieve you of this burden.
