Being an East Coast collector we do not often have things like this happen at WDW. As a D23 member, I was luck enough to be at WDW for this event and would like to share some observations. The MOG store was located in the Contemporary Hotel in the Nutcracker Ballroom, similar to other WDW MOG events in the past. They wanted you to form a line no sooner than 200 PM, for the "doors opened" at 300 PM. We got there about 415 PM and saw about 20 people in line to get into the store - not bad at all we thought. However this was the queue line the next group of people to go in, the WAIT line was across the hall and wound up and down for about 6 new lines!! Bottom line we waited in line for 2 1/2 hours to get into the store!!
Once inside it was a bit disappointing since the merchandise was much less than what had been offered in the past, but lets go to the PINS. Yes there were the new releases of the Dapper Dogs and the Princesses and Princes dancing BUT you were limited to ONE purchase of each per person. The other WDI pins out were a mix of leftovers from previous events, the Pleasure Island pins from a few years ago, some Indian Jones ride pins, no 60th anniversary diamond pins at all. Also some framed pins that were very nice but priced crazy as usual. For myself as a Villains collector there were ZERO pins I wanted. I did pick up the Dapper Dogs for Traders since I have very little stock left at low LE levels and I hope to use them for some nice Trades. Given the Princess/Prince pins were very nice with jewel effects and were worth the purchase if this is your collecting focus.
On to CHECKOUT - what a disaster! We were in line for 2 hour to pay for our stuff!! They had 3 registers at the end and no special place just for pin checkouts, PLUS they were doing a "bag audit" prior to paying to make sure you only had 1 each of the new release pins!! Many folks had 2-4 of each pin, over a thousand dollars worth of pins, and they were told NOPE this will not happen. Disney did stick to the rules but as usual folks tried to get away with multiple pin purchases even though they were told at the pin kiosk the limitation rule.
I have been to MANY event over the years for Disney and they NEVER have enough registers to handle the people!! Why this is so much of a problem I really cant figure out, as usual I told the manager in charge that when people want to give you money you can't make them wait in line this long like they did. As usual I got the Disney smile, an apology, and the standard "have a magical day" response LOL!!
The pins - compared to other D23 MOG events at WDW the pin selection was very small this time around. Bottom line I spent about 6 hours of my day at this event, mostly standing in lines.
HINT - if you ever attend something like this again come in about 15 minutes before they close the queue line, in this case around 645 PM, and you will get right in the store. You will still have a 2 hour checkout line but you will bypass the 2+ hours on the front end. PLUS there is enough merchandise to go around and you will not miss anything IMHO.
Unfortunately Disney did not enforce the "no lining up before 2pm" rule. I understand that people actually started lining up at 11am and were not penalized. I arrived at 2pm, the store opened at 3pm, but due to the extremely long line, I probably did not actually get into the store until close to 5pm.
There were a few more pins available to those who got in earlier. Specifically, there was an LE 100 Aurora (blue dress version) pin that sold out early, and I suspect the LE 150 Aurora (pink dress version) pin probably sold out at some point. They also had a few of the Diamond pins that sold out early (Jafar and one other, I heard), and the 2016 Mother's Day pins sold out. When I checked out, they still had most of the other newly-released Dapper Dogs and Dancing Princess pins, plus some existing pins like the Easter Eggs, St. Patrick's Day, and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride pins.
The check-out was extremely frustrating, as they only had 3 cashiers. After standing in line to get in, and then standing in line just to view the pins, it was pretty frustrating to have to stand in yet another long line just to check out.
I appreciated the fact that they only allowed people to purchase 1 of each of the newly-released pins (or 2 each of the Finding Nemo pins, if you were registered for that event). At least with that rule in place, I think everyone who attended was able to purchase the new pins.
Bottom line, the people who lined up before 2pm probably got a few pins that were not available later, but not enough to justify camping out for several hours. Still, it would be nice if Disney would enforce the line-up rules, or perhaps do a drawing system like they do at some California events.
Wow, that sounds crazy. Thanks for all the descriptions. I hope in the future they have more registers so that once you're in and have merchandise you can check out without having to wait in a long line. At least the pins are really nice!
It was definitely hellish. I mean, I was sore, so I can't even imagine how bad it was for people with physical issues.
Equally bad was not being able to go to the bathroom or get something to eat. I was starving by the end. Got there at 2 (massive line already, thanks for making rules and not enforcing them), stood in line for about 3 hours, shopped for 20 minutes, check out line was about an hour and 30. Just as reported above.
If it weren't for the princess set, it would not have been worth it, and as it is, I still need Blue Aurora. I was also alone this time, so I left with no traders.
I love having these things in Florida, because they're right....we don't get many chances for low LE at this point. If they either enforce the line rule (or drop the pretense of having one), and add 2-3 more registers, I think it would be just right. But 3 registers for something you know for a fact is a merchandising event...I mean, the whole point is we're buying stuff.
You know the good ol' WDW Merchandise Team - Maximum profit with Minimum cost. They don't care about treating Disney "guests" with ANY consideration - when they are "just" Pin buyers. This has been going on this way since 2001 & it will NEVER change. IMHO
We headed over to the Cast day on Saturday- we got there about an hour after opening since we had a 5K run that morning in Sanford-waited about 20-25 min in the outside queue then another 20 in the pin line- They had 5 princesses left (snow x 2, jasmine, tiana, briar with animals, cindy) then it seemed most if not all the dogs (though lady/tramp was almost out) and a decent selection of the clearance pins they cant get rid of.. We only grabbed 4 pins total (2 to trade- 2 to keep) so wasn't THAT impressed with the selection and with *so* many WDI pins being counterfitted these days wont buy much to trade since I've now gotten burned on as I cant trade my authentic ones for anything...
Actually, Florida D23 collectors have had it pretty good at the MoG popup stores. The last open D23 MoG Day for CA collectors was in December 2014. After waiting in line for several hours, the lottery ticket that they gave me did NOT allow me to buy that day's new pins! There were no D23 Days at MoG in 2015. There was a surprise MoG popup store after movie event on the Burbank studio lot. The tickets for the only 2016 (so far) D23 MoG event sold in minutes.
I have been going to MoG popup store events since 2006. They never have more than 3 check out lines. The wait to pay is always long. The ballroom at the Contemporary Resort is much larger than the actual store in Glendale, and has better AC!
Sounds horrible and familiar from event we have here too, remember they had only one cashier or two cashiers for pin trading night with hundreds of people waiting in line to purchase day released pins. Never understood why either (???)

There were 4 pins from the Mr. Toad Buggy set, 4 from the Fantasia puzzle set, Simba Mother's day and Mrs. Potts Mothers Day, 6 of the Star Wars Planets rectangle pins, c3-PO Star Tours pin, and Indiana Jones Frame pin.

Did anyone purchase either of the two sets of 4 pins featuring the coasters from Jock Lindsey's Hanger Bar (Indiana Jones themed, and the bar is at Disney Springs). My husband is looking at them on Ebay, but we want to know what the original price was. They look to be WDI releases, and so I assume the FL sellers got them at the pop-up store.
