What can you do when you buy a pin from someone and you receive it with deep scratches and dips? The photo the seller gave didn't depict any scratches but the photo was taken in a dark environment so it's easy to conceal deep scratches. The seller never mentioned it.

Was this on eBay or DPF? On eBay at least I always contact the seller, at best I have had a free replacement sent, at worst a partial refund. If the seller hasn't mentioned defects or pictured them the the pin is 'not a described'.

I would ask for a refund and return it - asking them to pay for return shipping because they hid a defect of the pin. If you still want to keep it, you could ask for a partial refund, saying you would have only paid a certain amount if you had known about the true condition of the pin. It you bought it through ebay or amazon then you can file a complaint. If the scratches and dips are bad enough to ruin the pin, the seller should I have mentioned them. Your pin doesn't sound like it matched the item in the picture because they tried to conceal the flaws.

where did you buy it from? Ebay, facebook, pin forum....
If it wasn't in the discription about the damage then you should try and get your money back. If they don't give it back then open up case with Ebay (if that's where you bought it from) and give negitive feedback. That's just my opinion.

I won and auction here not to long ago and when the pin came in the pin post was bent 90 degrees over (I'm sure from shipping even though it was wrapped very well) I was so disappointed but I contacted the person who sent it and they said we will send each others pins back to each other. Now that is a true class act in my opinion. These kind of people make pin collecting enjoyable, hopefully this person you bought the pin from will be the same way. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

I agree with this and everything above.Good Luck

Thank you everyone! I bought it through a Facebook group. She never said anything about scratches and I'm definitely not happy. I wouldn't buy it if I knew about the scratches so I'll follow your advice and ask for a refund and send it back. And I don't know, I know some pins can have light marks because of trading them a lot, but these are really deep. They caught my eye the first moment I saw the pin out of the wrapper.

I would also ask for a refund. I got one once also that was pretty bad. Most sellers are pretty good about it. Pictures don't always show the flaws. Explain that to them.

Contact the seller. I know that even in trading sometimes mistakes happen and I don't realize a pin is damaged or even a scrapper. If I have had the pin a while I don't always check to be sure. I know I should but mistakes do happen to the best of us. Usually the other person wants a happy customer/trader so they will do what it takes to make you happy.

Good luck!!!

Thank you all for the help. I've contacted the seller and they were very nice about it, I think they didn't realise it, like some of you said. They said they're sorry and didn't know and I should get back to them about what I want with the situation. I asked for a refund plus my shipping fee so I can ship it back to them. I thought about it and I would have never bought the pin if I knew about the scratches so it's only fair for both of us that the pin returns. And someone on the forum is selling the same pin, so I can hopefully buy that one! :D

Still a bit sad, getting a grail in the mail is supposed to be fun lol. Now I'll just wait on their reply.

Edit: They replied and said they would refund when they receive the pin. I'm quite paranoid about these things because it's so easy for them to not refund when they receive it. But I have no other option I guess, so I'll ship it tomorrow. There goes my grail.

Did you pay through payal? I would open a case and then when you can prove the item was received by the seller you will get a refund. So sorry that the experience was a negative one for you :-(

I did pay with Paypal, and as goods. They read my message but haven't replied yet. I'm waiting on the address so I can get this over with. This is my very first negative experience with an item I bought, so I really hope all will go well from now on.

If it was me, I would get delivery confirmation and signature confirmation. It is a little more money, but well worth the piece of mind. You also have a signature to submit to paypal if you do have to open a case against them.

Also contact the member selling the pin here, they might hold it for you until this is worked out so you still get the pin you want. If they won't hold it for you please pm me and we can see what we can work out so you can get your pin.

Open a case with PayPal but they won't refund you until you've sent the pin back so you definitely need delivery confirmation but I would go with what David (docfish2u) suggested and do signature confirmation (if you can.)

However, if you're the same person who posted on Facebook about this issue, I have no idea if you can get signature confirmation internationally (that is if the person is in the US and you are international).

You will also have to look into the Paypal buyer protection policy for your country.

And do you have the seller's address from the envelope that it was sent?

@docfish2u: I will ship it tomorrow with tracking. I actually always ship with tracking, even when I trade. And you're right, it does calm the mind. That way I'm sure it'll arrive. About the seller of the other pin, I already asked them but they don't hold pins because they're looking to earn fast money to pay for school (I think). And that's so nice of you, thank you! I will try to PM you today. I did ask them for a better photo of the pin because now I'm paranoid lol.

@starry_solo: As far as I know, my international shipping has to get a signature because if you aren't home, they will take it back and you have to get it at the PO. I do know that Paypal protects us, my mother has had a lot of refunds from Paypal, even outside of Ebay. I'm not sure about opening a case with Paypal yet, I've never done that. The seller promised a refund when they receive the pin, so shouldn't I give them a chance to fulfull that promise? I mean, the transaction itself was very pleasant and they were very nice about it because they knew it's my grail. They also shipped very fast before the holidays. So it seems so "mean" to me to open a case with Paypal while they promised me a refund. But IDK, I might be soft haha.

Anyway, I have the seller's address now and we talked about it. They apologised again and promised my refund when they receive the pin so we'll see. I can understand why they first want to receive the pin, because I'm looking at this from two sides. I also want to say that I really appreciate all of your help. Thank you, everyone.

Small update. I received my shipping cost on Paypal and shipped the pin back on Friday. Now it's the waiting game. I'm still pretty bumped about it. The only pin I got for my holidays was this one and I had to send it back lol. Thanks for all the help though.
