...you kinda just put it with all the others and didn't make a big fuss about it?

I had been wanting the Club 33 easel pin with Walt. Husband bought it for me for my birthday. I never thought I'd get it and I NEVER thought we'd spend that much money on a pin. Anyway, it went with in the cabinet with my other Club 33 collection. And that was that.

It makes me kinda sad, like maybe I need to just haul out all my stuff and enjoy it all more.

I think a piece of advice I'd have for those new to collecting is to have a journal. With every new pin, jot down the circumstances of getting that pin. Was it a trade? A purchase? Where? How long had you wanted that pin? Not a huge letter or anything, but something to remember how happy you were when you got it, so it's not just another pin in the collection.

At least for this pin, I will not forget how special it is.

Oh! You must be talking about me and my marquee collection

I do keep my pins in binders and bags. Once I go up to my room and open one of these up and just admire and remember how I obtain the marquee.

That's a great idea about the journal. I see they make journals for movie and wine fans, it's the same idea for our pins.

My collection isn't super big, although it doesn't fit all on my cork board anymore. and I've been trading for just over a year. so I still remember all stories of basically every pin. I rearrange my board once in a while (1 per two weeks mostly or with any 'big' addition). It's a lot of fun to do and I really cherish every pin I have. Normally I take a careful look at my pins every day. It's just a lot of fun to watch the pins, or use the movement/glow in the dark feature, or to hold a podm to the light to get the scene illuminated.

I have a little green notebook that I use as a journal. I gussied it up with stickers and everything. But then I couldn't figure out how to organize it so I haven't written much in it, lol. I guess I should just forget about being organized and use it! :) My intention was to keep track of sellers I got the pins from, and also my lists of good and bad sellers/traders; I never thought about using it to record pin memories -- that's a great idea. :)

not necessarily pins, but other merchandise definitely. well, pins too. out of the three that i have, i only really treasure one, because it was from a friend who went to disneyland and wanted to get me something cool. the other ones are from the time i went to disneyland, but they don't really have much of a significance. i guess that's because i thought "omg, things are expensive" when i bought them. LOL

i regret spending money on a couple of frozen things as well as general items that do not really fit into my collection at all. i might end up selling a few things or i might keep them if i end up buying another curio.

i look over the things i really love though. i will pull out a snow globe, look at the details, wind it up and let it play for a while. i clean my curio glass often and that gives my eyes an excuse to wander around. i feel like every time you pick up an item, it could make you remember or feel something different, depending on the colors or lighting or whatever.

the journal is a great idea. i have one for my memory box, just so i can catalogue all these little things that are important to me.

That is also one of the reasons I try to limit my pin collecting and have virtually everything on display. To me, just squirreling them away in a binder on a shelf or a bin in the closet defeats the point of having them. I want to see what I have! (Same goes for collectibles and souvenirs, wherever they may be from)

And so far so good... The pins are framed and in their corner, and I tend to drift over there when brushing my teeth so I have something to look at :) Now I'm working on procuring frames for my wife's Beauty and the Beast collection and my nascent Fantasia collection!

Half of my Disney collection is currently sitting in boxes. I made a big stink out of needing all the Designer fairytale couples mugs and journals... Nearly half of them are in storage since I needed more room on my bookshelves for books for my thesis. As for my pin collection, while I can't seem to bring myself to part with most of it, I really only care about my Walt Disney World and Snow White & the Seven Dwarf collections. I really love my Tangled, Ariel, and Sleeping Beauty collections but I'm just not into collecting half the collections I have. I really have to go through them and figure out which collections I really want to keep. Same with my merchandise. Long story short, I started out collecting being like 'I need all of this.' and not I'm like "do I really?"

I think it happens mostly with the most expensive ones. Other than your Grails, some that you pay alot for and they arrive and you are like, great I have it, but I wish I paid less. Does that make sense? haha

Yeahhhhh. I just started putting together the "collectibles" room, and now we're moving in a year. LOL. But for years, a lot of my stuff has been in boxes and undisplayed, and I was like, "What a waste". So I have several plans on how to showcase stuff at the new house. Things like seasonal corkboards that get pulled out for the holidays. Space is such an issue, I'm not sure there's a way for everything to get displayed at once.

Funny story, though- I couldn't find all my Chip and Dale and Fab Five pins...I had totally forgot that I had put them in one of those storage trunks (like the ones at Ross). So we were cleaning out the room to assemble all the shelves, and I go to pick this thing up, expecting it to be empty, and I'm like, "OMG, wth is in here, it's so heavy!", and I flip it open, and laugh...because it's all the pins, and what with the trunk being shaped like a pirate's chest, and the pins being shiny metal, it was totally like finding a buried treasure chest...

My husband was like, "Holy god, you don't even collect those characters!".

Actually, finding things you forgot you had is kind of the only fun thing about putting stuff in storage and then getting to pull it out again...

But to the point of the thread- yes, I'm actually really bad at that, but mostly because I spend almost all my time in our living room, and we have very few collectibles there, so it sucks because I never get to see them. :(

I have this with the designer villain pins I already have. I got them and it was "okay these are beautiful, let's put them back in the bubble wrap because I'll only frame them if they're complete" and I haven't touched them since.

Yeah, I had that too. but I even had the sets completed. like for over a year I had them wrapped in bubble wrap. Luckily they are on display now :D

Congrats! I think I'm going to trade mine, my taste just changed and I don't feel the need to complete the set anymore. Only keeping Gothel for my Tangled collection I think.

I have my pins on display boards in my room. I remember how I obtained most of them, especially my grails. I've had a few oh my god... Why did I pay so much moments though!

I wouldn't worry too much about that, over the years I have definitely had more than a few of those moments but have now got to the point where I see closed eBay listings for pins I own and think wow I got a bargain, swiftly followed by I might need to up my household insurance again!!
