I know this will make me sound like a rookie and all but where are these Disney Auctions? Are they online or in store somewhere? They've been confusing for a while I have just never asked. Please help!

Thanks,

Corvyn

If I understand correctly disney used to sell pins directly on eBay. These were the disney auctions pins which they no longer do.

Disney Auctions was Disney's Ebay Store. They started offering auctions in October 2000, starting off with vintage park and movie props and then expanded into pins in January 2001. Originally, they offered LE100 pins individually and in sets, which were bid on "Dutch Auction style." Later on they added P.I.N.S (stands for Purchase It Now store) which were basically "Buy It Now" priced pins in larger edition sizes (LE250, 500 or 1000). In February 2006, Disney ended their partnership with Ebay and created their own auction website. In 2009, (Wikipedia was wrong, it actually looks like it shut down Sept 30, 2006, I didn't think it had gone into 2009) the auction site was closed down entirely and LE pin releases moved to Disneyshopping.com until they eventually dried up about 2011 (obviously DS.com still sell pins, but not in the quantity or in a consistent release pattern that they used to.)

Everyone lament the passing of Disney Auctions! The pins were awesome and the quality was many times better than most pins offered now. That said the DSF beloved tales do come pretty close.

I didn't know this at all,! I'm so glad someone asked the question. Shame they ended the disney auctions, mysbe that's why these pins are so sought after.

DA pins are so much better designed than 95% of pins that exist today. I started collecting in 2009, and missed auctions completely - I wish they would bring it back!!
