Disney Fairytale Designer Collection - Heroes & villains collection 2016
There's now a "pre-order it today" button on the picture for the designer page. I really am starting to think merch got the shaft this year.

No word on pins.

But those after the dolls, remember to keep trying until the red sold out button appears. They often release in waves so as to not be overloaded. I was just able to add them to my cart just now.

Sounds like everything went well. Whatever problems there were to be had from last time I guess were fixed... well, except for the wait time, but a little sleep lost is a small price to pay for a quiet release.

Glad to see the release went by quieter and more stable than the BatB release. That is at the very least some kind of improvement.

However, I am bummed beyond belief that no merch was released online. I really hope we start seeing stuff next week with the Cinderella set. As lordofanime pointed out a few posts ago, the Art of Belle stuff was released later than everyone expected, so hopefully its the same case here. Some of the magic of these releases will be gone without all the gorgeous merchandise like mugs and notebooks lining the shelves.

From what I understand, did last years merch not do that well?

I read on a Facebook group that no designer merchandise is being released this time apart from the dolls

I will cry if this is true. My dad and I are obsessed with Sleeping Beauty. Aurora is one of my 3 favorite princesses, and my dad's favorite Disney character of all time is Maleficent. We were planning on getting everything Aurora/Maleficent themed this year.

So did a lot of you purchased the whole set of of the heroes vs villains yesterday? I already saw a review of the whole set.

So, while I would count nothing out, I called my preferred store today. They are usually on top of things and willing to share info, because they know how much I love Alice. Thus far, they have received NOTHING in terms of "other" (in, non-doll) merchandise for this collection. The CM I spoke to checked with the manager, and they were reluctant to say they WOULDN'T get any ... but it's definitely odd that they haven't seen anything yet, especially with the first individual set due to release next week. So let's all keep hoping, but my optimism is waning. I've waited forever for a designer Alice of any kind, and I'm going to be super-peeved if there is no merchandise. Even if last year's didn't sell well, the answer is to make less, not ditch it completely. There are fans of these characters (and this collection overall) who will be seriously disappointed. STUPID MOVE, DISNEY.

I keep praying that its just some kind of delayed release and that we will get the merch near the later doll releases (around late this month to early October). Seriously, the artwork is just too beautiful to NOT make the typical mugs, journals, and pins. Not to mention that the lack of any kind of side merch is going to make this collection look very inconsistent with other collections, especially if they have merch for next years dolls and this ends up being the only one without anything (if they even bother doing another collection after this, as it really feels like Disney is starting to wind down on this trend).

Does anyone get the feeling that the theme for this whole year has been Disney coming so far, only to fall short of the finish line? Like, every major release has had all the elements to be awesome (or at least solid), but then something gets bungled, or some bizarre choice gets made, and I'm left scratching my head wondering who up top thought that was a keen idea. Either way, it's definitely been a weird year.

While I agree with you totally, the one other factor that has me feeling gloomy about this is that Disney couldn't even muster the energy to come up with a 5th set of dolls for this collection. There are other characters that could get this treatment to great effect and decent or better sales. So either they are completely petering out on this line and we're lucky even to get these four sets this year, or they ARE holding stuff back for a third wave next year. In THAT case, though, it doesn't make sense to ditch the merchandise. I don't know. I agree with kabe that there have been a LOT of head-scratching moments this year.

The whole thing has been all over the place and I am left to wonder if this isn't some sort of marketing scheme. The more secretive they are the more people get riled up so when there is a release everything gets sold in minutes. I noticed some of the merch was being released in increments and sold out pretty quickly to be re-issued days later. The same merch is still available even though it's limited edition. It feels like there is a whole lot of limited edition merch that don't sell as well anymore and maybe they are using new strategies to get the stuff sold. They are doing the same thing with the LEGO WDW castle. They only had a certain number of sets released on September 1st and sold out fast but more will be released later on.

Part of me feels like Disney might be doing four sets instead of five this year simply to save money. Four sets are cheaper to make, and there has always been at least one set out of the five that does worse than the other four in terms of merchandise sales and popularity (since 2014 at least). That doesn't change the fact that its still a weird choice. It doesn't even feel like Disney has been promoting these sets as much as they usually do. These decisions honestly make me think that they just wanna get the Heroes vs. Villains sets over with so they can either move on to next years theme or stop doing designer dolls all together.

Disney has clearly been trying to change how they do things, but a lot of their decisions have been pretty questionable. Its such a shame too, because they clearly REALLY tried with these dolls. All the sets are absolutely gorgeous, and the artwork is the best its ever been. Maybe they will surprise us with some stuff by the end of the year, but I think its best none of us get our hopes up.

Just read that Disney isn't planning to release any side merch due to last year's poor sales. Am I the only one who gets it wrong cuz from the comments I have been reading it looks like most people were happy about last year's merch. Why on earth wouldn't they at least release limited edition pins?? Those always tend to sell out in minutes. I can't seem to get any answers from the Disney store wo always gives a generic response and tell me to check the website.

Things can be unpredictable. Before the alice in the looking glass LE dolls came out people were so excited. I was sure it was a hit and then I see them now On sale in disney store. Same thing to frozen forever. People seem excited and all and was sure it would hit and then boom, it wasnt. So now im not sure with this belle as well. People look so excited with the doll and everything and yet i dont know if its gonna hit. And then when you dont expect it, it does. This is one big lottery

That's weird. I know the merchandise sold well at my store. In fact, things were sold out well before the holidays. It was only a few of the x-small shirts that were left behind, and no one really seemed to be surprised by that (probably because because x-small merchandise doesn't see well where I am).
