Christine here! - I am new to collecting and I have been noticing LE DSF pins. Can someone tell me about them? Are they only for sale during certain times? Only at Ghiradeli's? Any info would be helpful - Thanks!

Hi Christine! Welcome to pin trading!

First, yes, all DSF pins are only sold at Ghirardelli in Hollywood.

There are three types of pins sold at DSF - open edition rack pins, LE pin trader delight pins (PTDs) and general LE pins. Rack pins can be purchased at any time DSF is open. PTDs come when you order the pin trader delight sundae, but those are currently not being sold. General LE pins are either released during special events (there was just a summer release with Olaf, Vanellope, and Russell) or randomly by surprise (like the calendar series).

ETA: Most of the time the LE pins sell out during the release event, but if there are any left after the event they turn into rack pins.

Hello!
Yes they are only available at the Disney studio store in Hollywood, previously known as the Disney Soda fountain. People still call it DSF as that's what it was for so long. There are planned releases that they announce usually a week before the beginning of the month (no new flyer for august as of yet). The LE size depends but they usually range from LE 150-500. In order to get these pins, you have to participate in the raffle on the day of the event. The last event was Friday and the event started at 6 am. You had to be in line BEFORE 430 to receive a wrist band. Around 515am, they began handing out numbered tickets. This is in lottery form. You stand in line and they spin a barrel with all the numbers of the people in line. When you get to the barrel, you are handed a number drawn from the barrel. This is your number. If the pins are LE 400 and you are number 401, you are not guaranteed anything. If you are 400 or below, congratulations you get whatever is available.
It can be a hassle and very disappointing if you don't pull good numbers, but its still an experience you should have as a pin trader. I always get nervous when I am close to getting my number lol Just keep an eye out on the forums for the monthly flyers as to what pins are being released and when. They also have a facebook page (Disney studio store Hollywood) that you can follow. They post all official information there. Hope this helps.

You beat me to it!! lol oh well, the more information the better!

Thank you both! Actually I forgot to ask about the vouchers but you answered anyway - that's how good you are -LOL!

Thanks again!

timeerkat: I was planning on going sometime soon for a PTD. Can you elaborate more on them not selling PTDs currently? Thank you
I believe they stopped selling them so the PTD craze does not interfere with the usual summer tourism in Hollywood. Rumor has it that they will start selling again in august or September, but nothing has been confirmed as to when they will begin selling PTD's again. They do have the pin trading event on Tuesdays ( I think the official trading Tuesday is the first and last Tuesday of every month?). My guess is that they will start selling them on one of those pin trading Tuesdays, but that's just my guess.

Thanks for the info KG! So glad I didn't randomly decide to go there yesterday. Today was up in the air but no longer

Have you been to their PTNs?
I have not been. I always work Tuesday nights so I am never available to go. Although, I always see great trades being made there. But be careful, I also hear of a lot of pins that are stolen from that location specifically. Its a possibility everywhere, but maybe because of the amount of people and activities going on, you cant always keep an eye on your pins.

They ran out of pins that go with the sundaes. Simple as that. They apparently haven't yet figured out how to keep up with demand

As far as summer tourism goes, yeah, I doubt that very much. There isn't a lot of traffic going into GSF that isn't pin traders. The traffic that does come through seems to be very negligible. I was there for the Daisy PTD to Ellie PTD release and there were maybe 10 people that came in 3 hours that weren't pin traders (from 2 pm to 5 pm when Ellie was released.)

Edit to add: When there's a movie showing at El Capitan, there are movie goers that come in before or after to get ice cream. When they come in after, they usually buy merchandise related to the movie they just saw.

Thanks KG and starry for the helpful info.

I went to DSF quite a bit during one stretch where I picked up PTDs before it closed down last year but haven't managed to return since the NBC event last October.
