Hi Everyone,

I just returned from my first trip to the new Disney Store in Times Square. It was cool to see some of the NYC exclusive Disney pins there, but there was one BIG problem. You can't trade pins with the cast members! The previous store on 55th and 5th in New York did have pin trading. What gives! Does anyone know why they decided not to trade pins at the new store?

On a side note, you can read my brief review of the new Disney Store at www.showmethepins.com. Also, if you would be interested in buying or trading for any NYC exclusive pins let me know and I may consider traveling there to get them.

The Indianapolis Disney Store doesn't even sell pins! Does the NY store have a website listing for their pins?

(Looking forward to your project, still interested in the Hawaii pin.)

Flaneur I think it's almost an oddity for the Disney Stores to sell pins now. I hot the stores in Chicago, Detroit, Columbus and cleveland and didn't fin a single pin or lanyard.

If I remember correctly, I believe the vast majority of "Disney Stores" are not actually owned by Disney. I think The Children's Place owns all of them in the U.S. except one in Burbank and the one in NYC. That probably explains why the others don't sell pins. My problem is that the previous "World of Disney" store in New York both sold and traded pins. The new store in Times Square only sells them.

@flaneur: I don't believe the NY store has a website listing their pin selection. I'll see if I can find a listing somewhere...

All the Disney Stores Including the one in NYC are owned by Disney they are no longer owned by Childrens Place

None of my Disney stores sell pins. I was at a few for some Christmas shopping recently. They do, however, sell vinylmation.

The Disney Store are, once again, part of the Consumer Products division of Disney. The "old" NYC Disney Store on 55th street was part of the "Parks" division of Disney similar, I believe, to the WOD stores in DLR and DTD (FL). The Children's Place is out of all operations as of this time.

I don't think they have figured out a good way to do trading in the stores b/c a while back i had heard that all stores were going to start pin trading and out of the blue they decided not to... I'm so bummed

5th Ave World of Disney

The store previously located on 5th Ave & 55th Street was indeed a World of Disney store, not a "Disney Store". The World of Disney was owned and operated by Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts. That was why the store had pin trading (I was a castmember there for five years, leaving just before they closed in December of 2009 to transfer to my local Disney Store In fact, I was a winner of the "Cast Member Create-A-Pin" contest our first year, so one of the pins we sold/traded at the store was my design!). The Disney Stores did some limited pin trading back in the late '90's, when we actually carried pins in the store. Why we don't sell them any longer, well,...that's still a mystery!

As near as I can determine, only the "destination" Disney stores at New York / Times Square and San Francisco have pins for sale. Hopefully someday in the future each Disney store will be allowed to have pins that showcase the local character.

But given the current directions of Disney Marketing, I would not hold my breath.
