Disneyland Discounts

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong spot, but I couldn't find a good home....

Hey guys - my friend who lives in LA said he might be up for Disney when I visit (which is amazing because he generally hates theme parks as a rule).


However, he will def want to do it on a budget (as will I). I was curious as to where I might find a discounted ticket if I purchase in advance, other than triple A ? Also, once we are at the parks, are there discounts I should be aware of as triple A or general D23 member ? Or anything worth looking into joining for the perks ? I am good WDW but looking around Disneyland seems a bit tougher.

When are you visiting?

We're still figuring out dates docfish. He might want to do Harry Potter world instead, but was leaning towards seeing the new star wars stuff.

There really aren't discounted tickets for DLR anymore, unless you buy multi-day tickets. AAA used to be good because it included parking, but I think they got rid of that benefit a few years ago.

For Universal, they have a season pass that's good for the rest of the year online:

I use Get Away Today because their tickets are usually a little less expensive.

Costco can get you a deal on a whole trip. Room and pass.

is or was your friend in the armed forces? The best discount is the 3 day hopper. It will be less than a one day hopper pass. eat the chicken dinner at the plaza cafe. Best bang for your buck and one of the best meals you can have in the park. It's not a discount meal but it's big enough for to which makes it a real deal.

Good luck to you. Skip the magic potter world and go to the best place on earth. The 60th birthday is still going and well worth the trip and money to see. Have a great trip.

thanks KT. I will have him check costco. We don't need a room as he lives within driving distance. Hopefully costco will do just the tickets.

Costco doesn't just sell tickets anymore.

Make friends with a vet. That's your best deal. Hands down!!

Bookhugger is correct. Costco does not sell tickets by themselves, only with part of a vacation package (with room). They stopped selling tickets a few years ago. In 2009-ish, they had a deal on Deluxe APs (you got a $40-50 Disney gift card with it). Between 2010 and 2012, they had a deal on 5-day tickets that you got a $40-50 Costco cash card with it and got credit for the full value of a 5-day ticket so people used them to upgrade to an annual pass).

Since then, Costco stopped selling tickets. Sometimes (very rarely), you can find Costcos outside of CA and in Northern CA that has deals but they are very few & far between.

Well drat. But thanks guys. And as long as I am asking questions:
1. where would you recommend I check for pin boards while I am there ?
2. Do I need a magic band to do fast pass and book them in advance like I do at WDW ?

Disneyland uses a paper FASTPASS system and hasn't switched to the Magic Bands (yet), so you just need to hang on to your ticket to scan it at the machines to get a FASTPASS. You can only get them for the times listed above the machines, so you can't reserve certain times in advance or anything like that. If you want to reserve a spot in the preferred viewing section for World of Color, however, they have special (and fairly pricey) dining packages available.

As for the pin boards, they have them in several of the shops on Main Street, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland (and possibly more locations, I haven't scouted them all out). When I was at Disneyland last week, I remember seeing one in Westward Ho Trading Co. and one by the Village Haus restrooms (around like 8:30 or 9pm), but I'm sure there are many more around the park.
