DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion

I think you are spot on about this. I thought the dolls looked a bit nicer in the photos people were posting online so I decided to get all three. I got to my store after 5am this morning and there ended up being a much longer line than normal for a release.

I just got home to examine the dolls and I still have mixed feelings about them. The outfits are better than I initially thought they'd be, but I really don't like the hair and faces. I think the shiny faces and tinsel in the hair make the dolls look cheap. I really wish they'd stop doing this with all the dolls now. Anna's hair has black threads in it as well which I don't like. She also has massive sideburns. I actually like Elsa better than Anna. Kristoff seems too tall for his box --if you're looking straight on, his head is partially chopped off in the viewing window so the framing is off. Disney seemed to cut corners with these. The dolls look like they were made in a hurry and the boxes also look cheaper than usual too. Anyway that's just my opinion -- I hope everyone got what they wanted and are happy with their purchases.

I haven't posted here in ages but wanted to share my experience and my dolls!

I arrived at my store around 5:00 and was already 12th in line! The first two girls in line apparently got there the night before at 1:30 AM and were kicked out by mall security and then returned a few hours later. The second person in line got there around 4:00 AM. Normally 5:00 AM would be plenty of time to arrive, but this being Frozen and all I'm sure this release brought out the die-hard fans. Luckily my store received (I think) 17 Anna and Elsas and 14 Kristoffs so I was OK. Everyone was really laid back and friendly at this release, and it was also the first time mall security set up designated ropes for us to wait in. Once all of the tickets were handed out they "closed the line". Quite a few people came after the line was closed, but after they realized all of the tickets were handed out they left. A few people stayed anyways just in case someone with a ticket ended up not purchasing a doll, but I didn't stick around to see if they were successful or not.

The dolls (as always) are much prettier in person than in the stock photos. I especially like Anna from this set...her dress is really beautiful and I love the background of her box. Elsa is pretty and looks very regal and reserved in this dress and pose. I also purchased my first-ever male doll today...Kristoff looks really true-to-character and I like that they included his instrument.

Overall it was a really smooth release! I hope those of you trying online tonight have an easy release as well.

Was first in line again and was first to snag Elsa. And for those who are curious, her hair isn't as yellow as the pics made if seem. It's definitely white-blonde.

I noticed this too. Her hair didn't look nearly as yellow as the stock photos. I also liked the braids in the back of her hair. I'm glad it wasn't just a plain bun.

Hahaha, you caved? I feel like a lot of people are, which I thought would happen. I'm proud of my will power. I'll admit I was tempted because of the fandom, but then I reminded myself what my initial reaction was. These were the first dolls that I didn't go oooooooooh over the pics. I think I saw what you did in other people's photos--that they looked *better*. They still didn't look *amazing* or necessary. I saw them close up in the store, touched them, had the money to buy them. And I walked away. I don't regret it.

I'll see how I feel about Cinderella in person, but I'm not expecting too much, so I'm sure I'll have the will power to walk away from her, too.

Great pictures! The dolls definitely look better in person. I have never been lucky enough to purchase any of the Frozen Dolls but I will be up at 3am to try again. Thanks for the great pictures!

If you were at Eaton Centre this morning, there was drama with a line cutter.

Ah yes. I briefly heard about it but I didn't get any details. I actually passed on this set so I didn't witness the commotion but I usually go to TEC as well.

No no. I'm not referring to the "oily" shine. Elsa's face is more iridescent as in it has a pink/purple/blue shine(?) to it when you move it from side to side and the light hits it a certain way. Does that make sense? ^^;

So thoughts from everyone: A lot of people lined up extra early for these dolls worldwide it seems. Do people think that this is a biproduct of Frozen's popularity or have the LE dolls really become so popular that we should expect this kind of dedication going forward? I'm starting to worry about the Aladdin release now.... >.<

I originally planned to go at 7am and then last night I couldn't decide if I really wanted them and I could not make a solid decision because I had not seen them in person. So I set my alarm for 8am but woke up around 7:30, and rushed over to the store. My disney store is directly across from the mall's entrance, so walking up I already saw someone in line and I started to get worried. I figured there were already at least seven or more people.

I walk inside and literally it's only a mother and her son. We got along really well and she was very sweet and easy to talk to. So we talked a majority of the time, and around 9am another person showed up with his son. We thought at first he was a scalper but come to find out he was a cast member there with his son so his son could buy him the elsa doll. There's a rule against cast members purchasing? But it was his off day and he had his son do everything so it technically didn't break any rules. But he was also really sweet.

Finally the the castmembers came out to hand out tickets and so the woman got a complete set, I got elsa and Anna, and the gentleman got an elsa... Then two other people showed up and got complete sets... So only five of the eleven had been taken before opening... I was so shocked.

i only intended to buy Anna but when I saw them in person I fell in love. Honestly they are so much better in person! Elsa is absolutely gorgeous and there is something about Anna that I love. They also had the Frozen fever dolls, as well as the Frozen tsum tsums so I picked those up as well.

my store still has fawn, mulan, and Pocahontas as well... It's so sad.

It's mostly for Frozen. Keep in mind, these are a gold mine for scalpers. Kijiji already has 4 listings for these dolls, so you can guarantee they expect to make good money off lining up for these (Kristoff for $300? Um?).

Sleeping Beauty wasn't too long ago, and it wasn't this intense. The interest is DEFINITELY higher now, and you have to get there earlier, but maybe they'll increase the edition sizes for Frozen releases in the future. Aladdin won't be like this. But it'll be worse than The Little Mermaid was (pre-Frozen days).

I think Frozen Fever should be at least 8,000 LE. I'm surprised these weren't.

i wonder how cindy is going to be. i don't remember the wizard of oz china doll days and i don't feel like it's right to compare because of cindy's status anyway.

:c

This was my first time going to the store for a release. I picked a store 45 minutes from home (Mall Capital of America = CHOICE) because last March they actually had a couple of preorders for Anna and Elsa left the day AFTER the release. Had a crap night, got out of the house already exhausted and was outside the Disney Store in the mall right at 8. There were two people already on line (the woman ahead of me was a pro--she was there for her college-age daughter and had come equipped with a camp chair so she could work). Another guy turned up just after I did. By the time they came out to pass out the vouchers, there were about 12 people on line--but two of them weren't trying to buy dolls; they wanted some other merchandise, were totally confused, and left the line. This store got 17 Annas, 16 Elsas, and 10 Kristoffs, so I had no trouble getting my set. Everyone who was there "early" got a full set and there were still several Anna and Elsas up for grabs when I was leaving with my voluminous bags o' dolls. I have to say it was fun because the people around me were nice and looking out for each other, and the mall walkers all wanted to know what we were lined up for so it passed the time explaining to them, too. There was a security guard camped outside the store from about 8:30 on, I guess to keep an eye on things and make sure no one cut the line. So all's well that ends well and now I need to go take a nap ...

Yeah I caved. LOL. I was always iffy about them and wasn't sure one way or another. I don't necessarily regret getting them, but I definitely don't feel the excitement I usually do. I normally get a doll home and just stare at it for a while. I didn't feel the desire to do that with these. (Although that could be because I only got about two hours of sleep and feel quite delirious. LOL.)They're still sitting in the bag in a corner of my living room.

I do admire your willpower! Even though I feel slightly disappointed in the dolls, knowing myself, if I hadn't bought them I'd probably be tearing my hair out right now worried that I'd made the wrong decision.

China doll didn't make it to Canada, so we could only get it online. I passed on her. She was more of a surprise release I think. There wasn't much hoopla or uproar. She sold pretty fast online and restocked a couple times over the next couple weeks. I know she's LE, but I don't feel like she's part of this line, same with the Jack and Sally LE dolls. Then again, some people exclude Calhoun, but she's one of my faves from this line.

I only got about two hours of sleep and feel quite delirious.

Oh, then you'll probably feel better about them after you sleep. Honestly, I sound so bitter in my posts lately, but I really am happy for everyone who got them. So now that you have them I'm making fun, but I'm glad you didn't have to get them on the secondary market later.

This line isn't my #1 collection anyway, so I'm glad I'm picking and choosing which dolls I buy now.

If they released more iasw dolls? I'd be powerless and buying 3 of each country. So this is better for me, lololol.

Tons of success stories. Congrats everyone.

Now my sob story LOL. I got to the mall at around 7:15 AM and was 15th in line. Of course they only have 14 of each and everyone in line got all three dolls. Oh well. Another chance tonight.

There's a rule against cast members purchasing?

YES! The Cast Members are not allowed to take part in the purchase of Limited Edition items. If I remember correctly, I think my friend, who works as a Cast Member at Walt Disney World, said that Disney produces other LE items that they make exclusively for the Cast Members, but I could be remembering that conversation wrong. It's been a few years since we had that conversation.

oh ok that makes sense now that i think about it, don't remember reading too much about her.

i don't know what to expect with this live action cindy.

thanks for everyone's pictures so far! I tempted to get Elsa online tonight...I had really wanted the coronation version to go with my coronation Anna but missed out. I figure it would be better to get her now then regret it later (like I do with coronation Elsa, truthfully I really could have got her but it was just a bad time)

Congrats to everyone who got them. Couldn't make the morning release for various reasons, so I'll be trying online tonight. Fingers and toes crossed.

Though I really wish they hadn't made them so horribly shiny. >_< The shot someone posted earlier with all three versions of Anna/Elsa, the first two of both look so much nicer with the non oil-slick faces. :/

Hi everyone, I'm one of those people that usually only like to see the commentaries, but I had to tell you that I agreed with Silvermist66, so, guys if you can get the purple Elsa, don't hesitated, she is worthy, even prettier than the previous two dolls
Anna is pretty too, Kristoff so so to plain for my taste an that hair it's just not right, but purple Elsa for me is perfect.

Obviously everyone has their own opinions and it is understandable as everyone has different taste. I think the dolls are pretty, but they do not warrant the craziness of camping out all night or the frenzy that seems to be taking over this release. I understand it's Frozen and am a HUGE Frozen fan and as much as I do like these dolls I am not blown away by them nor do I think they are prettier than the previous Frozen dolls. Many people are saying that they contrast well with the other ones, I can see that since they all have different colors. To be honest I am torn. I will get them because again I love the movie and I have all the other Frozen dolls and not getting these would make the set incomplete to me, but as Quasimodo expressed, I too do not feel blown away. Maybe when I have them in my hands I will feel differently, but I do think that once again Frozen hysteria has taken over and is making people go a little crazy. I am glad for everyone who has gotten them today and good luck to all others who are trying tonight.

I really disliked these initially but was pleasantly surprised when I saw them. Frozen is actually one of my least favourite Disney films *runs and hides* but I've been collecting these dolls since 2010 so didn't want to miss them. Whilst they're not as nice as most of my LEs they are better than some, particularly Merida/Elinor. My only real complaint is Kristoff's box :|

ok so not a good time to post this probably but um, what's the likelihood of a surprise hans limited edition doll filling in that gap that the kristoff doll made in terms of the odd number of dolls?

not sure if the source that disneylimitededitiondolls@tumblr re-posted but there are rumors regarding a LE 3000 hans doll? and he is coming out with cinderella?

... oh boy.

Each to their own, but seriously you prefer this Elsa to the SQ Elsa and coronation one
