So I'd like to collect scenes from the Tangled lantern scene and the BATB ball scene, there goes my money! They're two of my ultra favourite Disney scenes and they happen to be pins, yay! (Too bad they didn't make "Kiss the Girl" PODM though… sad face.) But I'm still very hesitant because it seems so hard to display them.

I've seen some people on Facebook and this forum who made PODM displays with lights in the frames and I'd love to try that. But my question would be, what kind of light would be best for the scenes? Or in other words, are there certain lights that would damage the scene? I've never held a PODM in my hand and I'm guessing they're very fragile. Would fairy lights be okay? The ones with batteries in them? Also, do most of you use shadow boxes with glass? I'm guessing glass would be safest so dust won't get to the scenes.

If you have any experiences to share or any tips or tutorials on light frames, please let me know! And thank you in advance, of course.
 
Most of the PODM displays I've seen have been lit with LED lights. They're small, low energy consuming, and create very little - if any - heat.
The thing I've seen most people use is little flat strips of LEDs - you'd get them at radio shack or somewhere similar. Only problem is they might require some wiring know-how to do it best.
 
I have two Alice in Wonderland PODM displays that I put together myself (if I can do it, anyone can with a little patience and planning!) based on a tutorial someone posted on this forum a long, long time ago. I did research first, and the consensus seemed to be LED lights, so that's what I used. I found small strings of them at a craft/hobby store we have here in the US (Hobby Lobby ... I prefer Michael's but they didn't have what I needed). They were inexpensive, they are battery-powered, and they can be turned on/off easily with a switch, so I can light my PODMs periodically to show them off or admire them but don't have to worry about leaving the lights "burning" for too long (which most people also caution against). If I can find the original thread, I'll add a link here ... but you might search the forum for "PODM" and "display." It took some work to get them just right, but they look AWESOME. Good luck in your quest!
 
I agree that LED are the best choice! :) I did a lighted display, not a PODM though, but I used a set of battery operated LED mini Christmas lights for mine because they do not put off any heat. They work out great!!! :D
 
Led is the best option I think. I would love to have a podm :) And I really feel the pain about the lack of the ''kiss the girl'' scene too....

I'm guessing LED is safe to go but I should light it as less as possible? I'm just really worried that I would burn the cells lol. It would be a pity if I would ever want to trade them for other cells.

I might buy my very first PODM from someone on the forum. I PM'd them so fingers crossed! :x:

I really think it's a pity they don't have a bigger variety in scenes. If I look at the Pinocchio or Little Mermaid scenes, they're all from one movie scene. So many gorgeous other scenes in those movies! Kiss the Girl is definitely my favourite LM scene, I'm actually thinking of focusing on that scene instead of general Ariel.

THAT'S IT!!! Don't be intimidated; like I said, patience and planning but it can be done!!! I have 2 shadowbox frames that are 7x15 (which is a weird size now that I've measured them!) rectangles, and I fit 5 PODMs in a row down the center of each. (One is an entire sequence that I managed to collect and the other is just 5 other AiW PODMs I've accumulated.) If you are going to spend the time, $$$, and agony collecting PODMs (esp Tangled and BatB), you might as well put the effort into creating a gorgeous display for them. And the best part is, all the messy stuff is out of sight, so you just see pretty pins and pictures. I actually used corkboard as my backing instead of foam, mostly because I had a stack of it on hand, and I was able to put really pretty scrapbook paper over the top of it so the PODMs are sitting on a nice background. But if you do plain, clean foam, the PODMs will stand out all the more. Good luck! =)
 
Awesome, thank you! Sounds like you have an amazing collection, did you post them somewhere? I'd love to see them.

I'm definitely excited for it, I just love having a goal, you know? And the end result will be satisfying. :D But of course, I have to like the most popular ones again lol. But the harder it gets, the more of an adventure it'll be I guess.
