I need clarification please!! I've watched many videos. I've read several threads and comments. I'm under the impression that if you receive a pin from a trade, auction, or purchase and there are dips in the paint, you can assume its fake!!! Is this TRUE??? False??? When I get a pin from someone that I may question, the first thing I do is look at pinpics for possible defects that may seem common to that release. That I understand. I know quality control can be an issue at times. However, I have received a couple of pins from folks right here on the forum that have dips in them. Should I be concerned? I make sure I never send a pin out that I wouldn't want myself. I've actually thrown pins away instead of passing them on to someone else. I don't want to lose confidence in our forum when trading and purchasing. I'm just a little apprehensive now. I would appreciate other opinions and advice about this issue. I don't like drama so I've never said anything about it. But, I can't afford to keep trading good pins for possible scraps or fakes. Thoughts?? Advice???

I have bought plenty of pins directly from Disney that have had dips in them. So dips do not automatically equal fake. The same goes for the "brush stroke" pattern you can see on scrappers. They show up occasionally on authentic pins as well. Both of these are red flags in my book, though. ESPECIALLY with hidden mickeys. What I do is check pinpics and see if any scrapper/fake warnings have been posted, and if nothing shows up there then I'd do a quick search here if you are worried.

Having dips on a pin does not make it a fake, many many DSF pins have dips in them due to low quality. Do not assume the worst....that is all.

True. The QC for DSF pins does not seem that accurate or through at times. I got the 9 pin Marquee set recently, and it had marks on 1 of the pins, even though the pin had never been opened

I agree with Angel, there have been a lot of pins sold straight from Disney that have dips in the paint. It really seems that the quality of pins being produced lately has dropped considerably. So do not frett my dear right from the start, dips do not automatically make it a fake :)

Wow!!! That's great to know. I'm glad to know if you guys get a pin in a trade with dips, you're ok with it. I won't be so concerned about trading the same ones I'm receiving now. I've just seen so much on YT about this subject. You know..... The dips seem to be the only thing in question with the pins I have gotten. Everything else looks fine. None of the pins are from DSF or Hidden mickeys though. I appreciate everyone helping shedding a little light on this issue for me.

Thanks a lot for the input. The pins I've received haven't been DSF or Hidden Mickeys. I hope it's the case for all of them. I appreciate everyone easing my mind about it. I feel a lot better now.

I've even see a few pins straight from Disney that have borders on the backs.

IMO, that could be because it otherwise passed what they call QC (Quality Control), whereas an almost identical pin doesn't.

To me, this is heading to the "a difference that makes no difference IS no difference." Barring a flaw that none of the Disney-bought pins possess, whether a particular pin is "real" or a "scrapper" or a "reject" is becoming very subjective. And with QC seemingly failing, the subjectiveness will increase to the point that no one would be able to tell two pins side-by-side without knowledge that one was actually purchased at a park, store, etc.
