As new folks come into the hobby I am using the "reference check" more and more. If you do not have any references, or very few, I would ask that you mail your pin first and upon receipt I will send mine. I am getting back some pretty nasty remarks from people who either "don't know what references mean" or know how/where to find them.

Since this whole on-line trading thing is based on TRUST I rely on the reference checking process and do not plan on changing my approach.

If you don't know where/how to post/look for references you can PM or e-mail me "Figment919@aol.com" and I will be happy to work with you.

I only wish more people would utilize the feedback feature here. I've had more trades than feedback received, but sadly a lot of people don't seem to respond when I ask them to please do leave some. As for Dizpins, so far I haven't touched that place, but I have heard it mentioned many times in the past - I am not sure how popular it is nowadays? I thought the site was broken?

I recommend the Reference section here on DPF.com AND the Reference part of PinPics (the old reference section under Dizpins, it is STILL functional).

I always leave feedback here on DPF when I trade with a DPF member. But I don't think a lot of people really leave references on Dizpins. I only found out about the Dizpins reference center recently when someone asked me to leave them feedback, but I had to search for it, and it looks like you can't leave negative feedback on it anyway, so I'm not sure how useful it really is.

References are SUPER IMPORTANT! :)

And yes, Dizpins reference-center is still fully operational :) it uses a much older code than PinPics but yes, it still works!

Dizpins reference-center (for finding references or leaving one) can be found on the PinTalk.com's homepage - click Reference Center.

While you can't leave negative feedback you can file a complaint if needed and if the other person does not respond it ends up getting them banned.

I totally agree with you Mike, I operate in the same way. I too have experienced negative responses to this, but I think I would rather just miss out on that trade, than compromise and take a risk. I still use the old reference centre in conjunction with this one.

I don't use dizpins cause it's always annoying. I like the system here a lot and for every purchase or trade I've left reference. I didn't even know there was a way to do reference on pinpics :o

See, I have had concerns with the DizPins reference center for a while now. Some of you might remember a while ago, where someone was sending out trade requests, and for those who responded, the person used the respondent's e-mail address to create bogus references for themselves, but they used a name I do not go by, so when someone asked me if I remembered my transaction with them, we caught them in the act, and all the PinPics mods at the time could do was post another reference advising those not to trade with the person since negatives can not be left on DizPins

It would be better, IMO, if PinPics developed their own feedback system for transactions on their site instead of using a system they can not control/maintain.

If I trade on here, I always leave feedback but many don't leave feedback in return. :(

Ditto!

Good idea! It would be nice to see something that was more reliable/controlled/maintained. It wouldnt solve non-receipt of feedback though LOL!!

agreed! i think it would be important to be able to leave negative feedback maybe with check boxes for specific general issues. And then room for specific comments. Although the unfortunate rule of customer service is people will go through the trouble to comment the majority of the time when they are upset and rarely when they are happy. But at least then when a trader goes bad we could tell instead of just seeing old good refs....

I wonder if the reason Pinpics doesn't do it is legal reasons if you say someone is trustworthy are you then liable if they don't follow through?

I wish the positive references a person left wouldn't actually appear until both parties have done so. I see a lot comments about people being frustrated that they don't receive return feedback even though they have done so. If the system could be tweaked, a slack trader couldn't get credit until they did their part as well. :bigthumb:

This idea I like!

I'm forwarding this on Bill :)

And I totally agree.

I wouldn't say that you'd necessarily be liable, but it is a crime (libel) to publish a false statement that is damaging to ones' reputation. You can't call someone a thief unless they've been legally convicted of the crime, if you do it's a false statement and opens the door for defamation.

I am a Florida attorney in my "real" life:sad:, so I thought I would just clarify this issue a bit. While unfortunately nobody can stop a person from filing a frivolous lawsuit if they want to do so, in most states truth is a complete defense to a defamation or libel lawsuit. So if some crazy person went so far as to take someone to court for a bad pin trading reference (which I suppose is not that inconceivable in this crazy world), the person who made the statement would be protected as long as the statement was, in fact, true (i.e. if you said you didn't receive the pin, and you really didn't receive the pin).

Fortunately, I have to say that I have made many, many trades on both DPF and PinPics, and (knock on wood) have never had a bad experience. But theoretically, if I ever did encounter someone who tried to scam me, I would definitely appreciate having the ability to let other potential traders know about that person.

I know the answer to this one. Contact Bev here: info@pinpics.com and give her the details. She will contact the other party trading and if they do not respond she will ban them and also leave a warning on their reference section.

But what if they didn't leave a reference because they were not happy with the transaction for some reason?

That's why I worded the request so that it would only be applicable to positive feedback. Negative or neutral feedback would go up automatically, with or without the other trader having left a reference. But this way people who trade a lot but don't feel it is necessary to reciprocate positive feedback would no longer be able to bank a large score themselves. Also, if you left a positive reference but the other trader turned out to be "psycho" and left you negative feedback, they would not gain the positive score you had initially left them. :)

References are always a good thing!! I try to post sooner rather than later but every now and then life gets in the way  so every now and then I will take some serious time to go through and catch up on leaving references!! Thanks for the reminder!! :)

Hmm, I will have to remember to ask people to leave feedback on that other site from now on. I was mostly just here on DPF before, but now that I am starting to use PinPics more I guess it would be a good thing to get into the habit of doing!
