DSF Pin Trader Delight

I believe it's [pinpics]90332[/pinpics] which was originally supposed to be a surprise pin (correct me if I'm wrong.)

I just looked back at the history of the trader delights. Up until Jan 2012 the pins would be released about one per month. Then in January, they had 2, and then in Feb it went

Carl - 2/16
Jessica - 2/18
Maleficent - 2/19
Dopey - 3/3
Jack - 3/17
Alice - 3/30
Cheshire - 4/5
Russell - 4/15
and then the Stitch, not intended to be a sundae pin was out 4/18.

If the pins had stayed on their typical schedule they went through 8 months of pins in 3 months.

The moral of the story? Put out ugly PTD pins and they won't sell out so fast? I surely hope not! The quick sellouts just tell them they are doing a good job and is racking in TONS of money for them. I mean, the ice creams probably cost them $3 with the ice cream and overhead, the pin is maybe $1.50? at most. So they are making like $8 on every pin that sells. That's 2800 pins roughly since 2/16/12 @ $8 profit each and you're at $22,400 in PTD profit just since mid-Feb!!

Right, but the quick sellouts only started 3 months ago. What's the lead time neeed for getting new pins designed, manufactured and in the stores? IMO, it's a little much to be getting on DSF's case about not planning better and having new pins, when there was a recent and sharp change in guest purchasing habits. That's my point.

I don't think I was disagreeing with you. I agree purchasing habits have changed just recently. The PTD's have become more popular and trade really well so people started buying more and more of them, especially the good characters.

I should have got one yesterday! I was covering the madhouse across the street when Scarlett Johansson received her star on the Blvd. My only thought was to get the heck out of there.

I think $3 for the ice cream is even on the high side. Imagine what you pay at the store for a thing of ice cream and how many sundaes it can make, and they get those huge tubs and at wholesale prices, I bet it's more like $1 for each sundae. DSF is doing quite well for itself, especially with those PTD and you know this is true since they are now allow substitutions on big release days as a thank you for spending so much money.
