IT IS FAIR because it's a raffle. You can't have hard feelings because everyone has the same 16% chance of getting in. They'll reduce those numbers after the raffle and quickly get everyone to go at once. The end. You get a high number, sorry, you'll have to wait. They can't be responsible if you miss your number in line, and probably don't wanna deal with it either.

Honestly I think it is. I mean most people are bringing friends, brothers, mothers, buses and what have you, i bet nearly 75% of the people don't care to be trading at all. And this is how it is now.


If they had this happen people would constantly be running in and out, to and from across the street and back and forth. This way people WILL leave, and make things easier on the event as a whole.


If things don't go well then there won't be anymore events. The end. The more people in a tiny space that is confusing to more violence there will be.

This way you can buy the pins and quickly GET OUT OF THE WAY and pick up your pins later. The line will go 1000x times faster if people aren't trying to look at every damn pin in the box while everyone waits outside.

EVERY individual person had a 16% chance to get pins.
 
I have to agree with PurpleRose about it not being fair. Yes, the odds of getting the pins are FAIR, but to be able to trade, it isn't fair. What if you're lucky enough to get a voucher between #1 - 400? The people who would be at the trading event are the same people who bought the pins like you. The trading event would be more beneficial (and fair) if there was a mix. I don't think all 400 people who get the pins want to keep them (either keep all of them or keep some of them). They would use one/some/all of the 10 pins to TRADE for what they want. And the people who are #401 - 2000 can trade them for what they want.

If they limit the trading area/ballroom to ONLY the people who got the pins, then how will those people trade their newly acquired pins? Except for the people who are buying to re-sell the pins (and then really wouldn't need to go to trade), most people buy pins (1) to keep and (2) to trade.

I agree it should technically be faster to buy the pins - now that you have to buy at GSF and pick up at the hotel - but why not have: 1. buy at GSF, 2. pick up inside El Capitan, 3. trade at hotel? OR 1. buy at GSF, 2. pick up at hotel but a different room than the trading area, and 3. trade in the ballroom? I know GSF won't listen to advice, but that would be a way to still keep it fast and to free up the limited space inside the store, but it wouldn't force people to go into the trading area to pick up the pins. If you're lucky enough to be #1 voucher, you will have to wait for #2 through #400 to finish to be able to trade with them... unless you catch the people with vouchers #401-2000 outside the door and start trading in the street. It sounds like, also, that once you get to the trading area, you can't technically leave and come back. You can leave, sure, but it sounds like they take your voucher when you're there (or stamp it/cross it out) and if you leave, you won't have a re-admission voucher. So, once you're done, you're done because they have to let stand-by people in.
 
The trading room doesn't have to be where the pins are picked up. It can be outside that area.

Here's what DSS should do (but they probably won't). Do TWO wristbands. One for the voucher and one for trading (trading must be a different color than voucher and they have to have 2500, 5 DIFFERENT COLORS)

Put the trading wristband on people as soon as they walk into the Roosevelt (if that's what the people want to do, trade.) Room capacity must only be at 500 people since the rules say only people #1-500 can go inside. After one hour or so (and that's one hour after the last person has gotten their wristband), CLEAR OUT THE ROOM. Let the next 500 people. Repeat.

Sound like a good solution? Obviously the first 500 people can go stand in line again to get in for the third hour if they want to.

How long is the pin event supposed to last?

Let's just say 1500 people show up to try and get these pins... about 80% of these people aren't traders. They're just going to show up, get pins, then sell them. So really, once they go to the hotel to pick up their pins, they're just going to leave which will leave room for #401 (and above) to go in and trade. Also, there will be couples or groups of people who get varying numbers and they all won't be able to get into the trading area; so rather than have one or more persons wait outside, the people with the lower numbers will just get their pins and leave. I think if you don't get a good number, chances are you're going to be able to get into the trading area fairly easily.

I'm thinking if you get number 401-500, you're screwed because you don't get a set of pins, and then if you're lucky enough to get into the trading area, you'll have to leave at some point to get in line for leftover pins and PTD sales that resume at 12:30.

Of course, there will most likely be some unforeseen snafu and everyone will be pissed off no matter what number voucher they get. :lol:

Also, I'm sure a fight will break out at some point. Sad.

I'm with my 7 year old daughter so I can't enter the trading area until our highest number? We can't split up so that part wasn't thought out. And since it is a blackout day for her passport at the park. guess we might be driving back to Nor Cal early that day if we get a bad number... why trade at all? But I thought they used to do raffles for the pins in the display case at the older trading events?
 

They have done raffles in the past and I'm expecting them to do it again. Definitely wasn't thought out well.

I think some people do. It's a bit hard to do while standing, without a table, because of all the bag/binder balancing involved, but some people do do it. It's just harder unless you're very pro-trading and don't mind walking up and down the line looking for a bag that may contain pins and asking strangers to look at it while standing in line. I think most people who do trade in line only have 1-2 bags to carry and not the stroller-filled multi-bags get-up, but trading events in general (with tables) allow for those who have shopping cart full of bags to plop down at a table.
 
So here's fuel to the fire that no one discussed (picture me putting on my devil horns!!!) How many times has a family not always gotten a good number? Ex. 1 gets 35, the other gets 545 and the kid gets 789. So only one person out of that family gets to go in? I do not see that actually happening except to get the pins and leave. Plenty of times, including last time me and my wife get one good number and one bad number. I for sure am not going to go inside while she sits in a standby line, OH HELL NO!!!
 


Well the numbers are interchangable, you both do your lowest number first and wait around until the next. In all honesty I doubt they'll split you up. They aren't horrible people.


Then you go back for your other pins.

They just have to make sure that there aren't too many people in the trading room for fire code reasons... but it really should not be at the point where families are split up. I wish they had figured out a different solution.
 
to make this event easyier I think disney soda fountain should charge $5.00 for the wristband so make sure real pin collectors are going to get the pins
