I don't think there is much interest in the pins for the event, I think most people go for the board trading.
 
I'm hearing that no one really trades at the event and it's more so about the boards. Was it like that at the past events? First timer here so I'm going in with no expectations.
 
There is some trading, but the vast majority of people do go for the boards. I'd suggest to bring one package of pins to trade to the boards (can be anything - booster pack pins, Hidden Mickeys, OEs, etc.) and some high LEs and low level PTDs (the last few events have had a PTD for PTD trade area, though before that it was just a general LE for LE area, so it doesn't hurt to prepare for both). You can also bring a trade book/bag with some pins to trade with people (some people trade in lines, and some still do trade at the tables.)

I would suggest to only bring what you are comfortable either leaving at the table or carrying on your person for several hours.
 
Yeah at the last even I was kinda bummed I dragged out all my traders to bring to the event, but everyone just wanted to do the lines for the boards ^^;;
Next time I would only bring my best traders in case someone wants to trade, and just the stuff to put on a board or the PTD for PTD board
 
I'll see y'all there. I still have some circus pins available for pre-trade (Bing Bong, Nephews, Mad Hatter, and Dumbo).

@tiffychann At the WIR Event I didn't trade much. Part of the reason was the only time I was sitting was during the meal, and it's not too convenient to trade while waiting in line for the boards. A good option is to set up pre-trades and just bring those and a medium size album.

@watzshakinbacon I can trade you my movie ticket. I'll be going to the fan event anyway.
 
@tiffychann I have done some private trading at all of the events I have attended (except the first one, due to being so green to pin trading.)
1) At one dinner... I traded with people on both sides of me while we ate.
2) Its a great use of time while waiting in board lines and am always bummed when those in line near me didn't bring anything to trade. So yes, this can be hit or miss, but I would not rule out trading in line.
3) Have done the pre-trade route a few times also. (We have some pin matches... uneven LE... otherwise would suggest a pre-trade.)
4) Have traded my pins to people who pulled a pin from the board they do not want (but I do.)
My motto: be prepared to trade... with at least something. Its a disappointment when you do run into someone who has a pin you want and you have nothing to trade.

Ultimately, I think @timeerkat 's suggestion is a good one. I am tentatively planning on bringing two pin bags to keep on my person while waiting in lines.
 
One of the things I appreciate about the Florida event is being limited to only 4 board pulls per day. Even though the lines were as long as an hour, I utilized that time well by taking turns with people I stood with in line to go to the tables to trade just so we weren’t in line for the entire time.

But with 150 people I guess the lines won’t be crazy long.

Yes the WDW events have tickets but the WiR one was unlimited! I believe all the DSF events are like that

The venue where the event is occurring can only fit 150 "comfortably" (and even that seems like they are pushing it).

The lines will, obviously, depend on how many boards they have. If they do like past events, it could be anywhere from 4-6 boards available for trading. The Roosevelt Hotel Ballroom is not very big so, assuming they do 4 boards (1 per corner) + the PTD for PTD or LE for LE board, that is 37-38 people per line to begin with. I have a vague recollection of them doing 3 boards for the last event there with the fourth corner reserved for the PTD for PTD or LE for LE line so that's 50 people per line, to start with.

Event is from 12 noon to 5 pm. Lunch never starts exactly at 12 noon. That's when they start letting people into the ballroom. Time to mingle, etc. Lunch won't start until 12:30 or 1 pm. Then there's the raffles that occur after lunch (not during). So you're looking at starting trading at around 2 pm. Then there are raffles after trading, so you're looking at the boards closing around 4:30 pm. Each person gets 30 seconds (I think) to pick a pin on the board, so 50 people per line = 25 minutes. 2 1/2 hours of trading on the boards. So, hopefully you can do about 6-8 trades in the boards. Most people with the numbers towards the latter portion of the board will go to the PTD for PTD (or LE for LE) line with hopes they can do well.
 
Yep, 30 seconds per regular board, one trade per visit. I think it was five seconds for the PTD boards (they're much smaller, but you still have barely enough time to register what's on the board before you have to pick something.)

I waited in the PTD line at the last event and could not even register the pins available for trade before the DSSH staff member was covering the trading board back up. And because I did not make a selection prior to the cover going back on the 'board', I was told I could not trade my PTD for one of the board PTDs. 5 seconds is not even close to enough time and I did not care for having stood in the line for 20 minutes and then be sent away empty handed. I found the entire experience mean spirited... not sure why it has to be set up that way. It will take a bit for me to trade with the PTD board again. I actually wish they would bring back the pin game.

Prob to have at least one short board and have a higher throughput. 5 sec is so short though. Since the pins are not oriented all in the same way, it’s actually really hard to process all the pins you’re seeing even though it’s like a 6” diameter circle.
