Hey ! So as you all probably know I am on a student exchange in France this year.
So my pin budget is not massive, but I finally convinced my Mum to let me bid on this pin (one of my grails actually) I really wanted on ebay (the CM Phantom Manor 2012 one) and I won the auction in the last few seconds for 55 euros or something like that.
I ebay messaged the seller saying that while I was using my Mum's ebay account but actually I live in France, so if he could send it to me then maybe the postage could be cheaper (because 15 euros for one pin in the same country is ridiculous).

Then I got a message from ebay saying that the transaction was CANCELLED due to a different address being given. I messaged the seller saying that I was sorry, I didn't know it would pose a problem for him and that it would be fine to go to Australia to my Mum's place, but that I really wanted this pin anyway and didn't want to cancel.

He send a reply saying that he has EXPOSED me (um, hello?) and that anyway he does not send to post boxes so ebay should have not let me bid (my mum's address is a post box). Then he said it was a shame because I wasted everyone's time.

I am so disappointed !!!!!
What can I do now?

I am telling the truth to this seller ! I just want the pin and I was so excited to win it today !
Am I in the wrong? Can I try and convince him other wise? Can I complain or will he complain against me?

PLEASE give me some advice ! I am young and probably naiive but I am completely stuck and kind of scared about how this guy got angry with me when I just want this beautiful pin that I actually won the bidding for !

It's how eBay seller's protection policy is.

If he seller doesn't ship to the actual address listed with PayPal then ebay and PayPal offers them no protection.

Someone could ask for it to be delivered to an address different than on file and then say they never received it and even if the seller has tracking saying it was delivered, eBay still won't do anything to help the seller because it is not the confirmed PayPal address.

Some buyers on eBay use this to scam sellers on eBay.

I don't know about the po box.

In the end, some sellers are just weird. He might have just decided he didn't want to. People both buying and selling have been gettin ruder lately.

Def don't let it bother you too much. I know it's disappointing and I hope you eventually get the pin you want in the end even if it's no from that seller.

With a quick look on ebay forums. The only thing that I found out about po boxes and why they might not want to ship to hem is if they are using a shipping service that doesn't deliver to them.

But for 15 euros.... I know that he can get shipping to Australia MUCH cheaper than that even if it is registered !
But thanks for your time guys.

It is really a pest, this :/

They probably got up on the wrong side of the bed to accuse you of scamming

Anyways...

They probably said they reported you and such because your confirmed ebay address is what it would have to be shipped to. Since you asked them to ship it to another non-confirmed address, they probably thought you were going to try and pull a fast one over them by saying you never got the pin, and that you wanted your money back.

As far as the PO boxes go, if it wasnt listed in the description of the pin that was being sold, than it is their own fault. If you really feel so bad about it, call ebay and explain your side

If you wouldnt mind, could you send me the link of the finished auction?

Unfortunately there are a lot of scammers out there trying to take advantage and with ebay mainly on the buyer's side of things in disputes, seller's have no real choice but to assume anything outside the norm is a scammer. I had listed a highly sought after collector's edition game on ebay and was shocked with the amount of people asking to ship to hotels, alternate addresses in other countries, etc. Many seller's won't mess with an address that isn't paypal verified. Now if the PO Box was the paypal verified address, then the seller was in the wrong on that point and just looking to add something more to why he canceled the transaction.

For anyone else wondering, it does say in the shipping restrictions on the auction that they do not ship to PO boxes as long as a few other places

Thanks Tealke.

Basically there is nothing I can do now?

The best you could do is when that person puts the pin back up (since they most likely will) you might be able to find someone else that they do ship to on DPF or something that could buy it for you and then you just pay them back. It's indirect and will take longer, but it'll get the job done.

While I understand where he is coming from, I think his rude approach was unnecessary. Simply saying that he does not ship to alternative addresses and that he "caught" you, which implies that you were trying to cheat him, of which he has no knowledge that you were trying to cheat him, was completely malicious. I've asked sellers to ship to other addresses and while no one has ever said no if they did I would have understood, but to accuse you of something, was mean and I almost get the feeling that he was trying to cheat you out of the pin because he wanted more money. I'm sorry that you missed out on this grail pin, but hopefully the next time you have a chance to buy it you will get it for even cheaper.

I agree with Ruby. His rude demeanor was unnecessary and to immediately assume that you were up to no good was not right. On the other hand, perhaps this guy has been scammed a couple of times and is just flat out angry/paranoid now. It sucks when people take advantage of other people like that because it does make a person less trusting and more disgruntled. However, despite that as a seller, you still need to be patient and try not to immediately assume the worst. He certainly could have handled that SO much better than what he did. Consider it maybe a blessing in disguise because perhaps had something been wrong with the pin, or there had been a flaw, imagine how he may have acted upon pointing it out and asking for a return/refund

In any case, I wish you the absolute best luck on getting your grail though and hopefully it won't take too long

(It's a new day, so I have a new outlook on things)

Wow, thank you so much to everyone who replied to me last night, you all really helped
I'm still waiting on a reply from the seller, but we'll see what he says anyway.

By chance, while paying for some other pins that I bought from a different seller last night, my Mum saw that he had just listed the CM pin that I wanted ! It was BIN and it was a fair bit cheaper, so we did that anyway
I doubt the original sale will go through, but if it does then we'll either resell or trade that one ! So yeah I'm really happy, and I will get the pin afterall !!

If you have any problems with something like this in the future, I would be happy to buy something for you and then ship it to France once it arrives at my house. Some sellers will not ship internationally for several reasons so if you need a US buyer/address I would be more than happy to help out.

Good luck!
